Morrowind

PshycoNinja4510d ago

Kingdom Hearts 1,2 and Birth by Sleep

Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII and X

Those are the best RPG's I have ever played and I have played many RPG's.

TBM4510d ago

for me its final fantasy 6 numbered 3 here in states. best rpg i've ever played.

cyguration4509d ago

Agreed.

FFVI has been and probably will be the best RPG Square ever published, followed closely (or tying with) Chrono Trigger.

Nobuo Uematsu just knocked the soundtrack right out of the ballpark in FFVI. Those songs still give me chills when I listen to them.

I know I may b prisoner of the moment and Ff7 has always remained in my mind as the best RPG i have ever played. I assumed nothing would ever replace it because of that time in my life. I was young, staying up nights on end w my two best friends drinking mountain dew and playing a game that i never wanted to end. Until the night of 11/11/11, when i began playing skyrim, a game that made me feel like a teenager again. Games like these happen every once and awhile, fallout 3, bioshock, mass effect etc. But this went beyond that, capturing a time in my life that i thought was lost forever. It has diminisheda bit, as all do 200 hrs. in, but it struck a cord. I will admit that while it is possibly my favorite game of all time, i am very much looking forward to kingdoms of amalur, bioshock and mass effect 3. It will b tough for them to make the same impact, but here's to hoping its close

Relientk774510d ago

It's really a matter of opinion, there are so many amazing RPGs out there:

Tactics Ogre
Brave Fencer Musashi
Skies of Arcadia
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10
Breath of Fire 3, 4
Grandia 2
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

are some of my favorites

PhantomTommy4510d ago

Forgot about Journey Of The Cursed King, that is an awesome game, really underrated.

Bigpappy4510d ago

We are all going to have games we prefer to play. Some people prefer simple Kid centric games, that lead them to the end while the story unfolds.
Some prefer a more complex game, where just go into the world and explore. You never know what is ahead, you can just walk into an ongiong battle or you can choose not to get involved. You can build you own potions weapons and armor, or you can buy from the local vendors. You can have a wife and kid be part of your story or not. You can accept being framed, or you can take on the local cops.

In the end, people will not answer the question: "What's The Best RPG of All Time?". They would just say what they prefer to play. When I look at the comments here, I see that people like some aspects of RPGs more than others. Some actually prefer action game that are call RPG's only because they let you level up and change weapons. Some prefer turn base strategy over direct action. Other prefer a good story that brings out their emotions.

I looks and RPG's like Morrowind and Skyrim as the Ultimate RPG's. Where as turn based RPG's are strategy or story driven RPG'd. D'Souls games are action/stradegy RPG's and games like Mass Effect and KOTOR are Action/Story RPG's.

While I enjoy all the various types of RPG's, I get the sense while play skyrim, that it is the pinicle of the RPG chain. What I mean by that, is that syrim has all of those elements (except for the fact that it is not turn base). Then you have to add the fact that it is completely open world and has 10 time the content of any of them. I think if you ask people who enjoy and have been playing them all over the years, most will go with Skyrim or Morrowind over Dark Souls or FF. This is not say ing that DS and FF or even Zelda are not great RPG's, it is just saying that an RPG purist would go for Syrim if he could just choose one game to play the rest of the year.

Godmars2904510d ago (Edited 4510d ago )

My fav RPGs in no order:

Chrono Trigger
Front Mission 3
FFIV, FFVI, FFIX, FFX (And no FFVII not omitted by accident)
Secret of Mana
Balder's Gate
Xenogears
Valkyrie Profile
Disgaea 1 & 2
Super Mario RPG
Grandia 2

Edit@Baka-akaB:
What, you read it?

GoldenPheasant4510d ago (Edited 4510d ago )

You have Front Mission 3 and Baldur's Gate in your list?! Sir, impressed I am. b+

Quick List:
Fallout 1 & 2
Chrono Cross
FFXII

Baka-akaB4510d ago (Edited 4510d ago )

disagreed for the same reason , the pointless self-gloating and chest beating born from some imaginary sense of rpg purist status entitlement , and the kid centric remark .

Redempteur4510d ago

Disagreed too .
Why would you talk about rpg purists like they all think like you ?
Lots of people don't like skyrim. People can enjoy rpgs and dislike skyrim/oblivion mecanics.

"it is just saying that an RPG purist would go for Syrim if he could just choose one game to play the rest of the year."
Sorry i'd take Xenoblade

Someone else might take the witcher 2

Someone else might take another game.

And it wouldn't make it less a rpg purist.

Really .. a pointless wall of text.

D3mons0ul4510d ago (Edited 4510d ago )

"RPG Purist"

Oh wow

I just got the mental image of a fat guy, with a neckbeard, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and broken dreams

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5224d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5224d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212124d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan24d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5223d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5223d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos24d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani23d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum24d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman24d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim24d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I disagree Batman

FF XVI Producer Is Interested In Working On A New Final Fantasy Tactics Game

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida is interested in working on a brand new Final Fantasy Tactics game.

GoodGuy0927d ago

It's insane its been this long since the last release.

CrimsonWing6926d ago

Not from you.

Knowing how you handled FF16 by trying to make it appeal to non-fans and changing the entire gameplay design I can see you changing Tactics to appeal to non-fans.

If they’re going to do this please give it to someone who wants to keep the game and genre in tact.

VersusDMC26d ago

He worked on tactics ogre reborn. Was there changes? He wouldn't make an FF tactics game an action game. It will be AA but faithful. Probably what the Diofield Chronicles team and some of the FFXVI team is probably working on already and he is just keeping a secret.

And FF hasn't had a set gameplay design since X. I disliked the MMO, 12, 13 FF's but didn't mald for years. I played other games. Stop crying as he probably won't make a single player FF again and will be busy with the next FF MMO.

EternalTitan26d ago

I can feel your hatred. Keep it up.

Ataraxias26d ago

Tactics Ogre Reborn was an overall solid product but almost eliminated the concept of builds in the game.
So we'd probably end up with a system where character jobs like Mercenary for Ramza is 80% of the character instead of being freeform.

SegaSaturn66926d ago

Tactics Ogre Reborn changed a lot of gameplay mechanics for the worse. The class system is weird and hard to lock in roles, and they shoehorned a new "random card appearing" mechanic on the maps which makes no sense. Previously you obtained those boosts from killing powerful opponents, not spawning randomly.

There's a way better way to play Tactics Ogre: the fanmade onevision mod of the psp version.

EternalTitan26d ago

16 was just a terrible mess.
Its not even a JRPG let alone a final fantasy game.
Yosi piss(who said he hates JRPGs) should not touch another Final Fantasy game ever again.

VersusDMC26d ago

87 metacritic can't be a terrible mess.
If Kingdom Hearts is a JRPG then FFXVI is a JRPG. And he said he hates the term JRPG as it carries a bad stereotype with western journalists.

So you're just incorrect on several fronts...

Asterphoenix25d ago

I wouldn't mind a new FF Tactics longs they keep the tactical elements of Tactics in it as well as a very in depth story. Which FF Tactics years ago has by far one of the best stories in the series.

Tapani25d ago

Yes, alongside with Vagrant Story. Playing FFT, then Vagrant story and finally FFXII is a bliss. Deepest lore and best stories ever made in video games.
