Not that Uncharted 3 is ugly but there was a game called Battlefield 3 that was more deserving. Also Killzone 3 and Crysis 2 should've been nominated over Gears and the Witcher.

Battlefield 3 on consoles isn't very impressive at all. I think the fact that Naughty Dog was able to pull close to PC-level graphics on a dated console in both polys, animation, mocap, environments, and dynamic levels hasn't quite been equalled yet from other studios. BF3 had better textures, lighting, and shadow going for it, but I think the bigger picture and the finesse/perfection that UC3 had won critics over.

Textures, lighting and shadows are gens ahead of consoles. Those are 3 very important variables that a PC kills with. UC3 is a good looking game but pales in comparison to the PC.

Trust me its terrible on the consoles. Tons of character clipping, bitty textures, and physics that don't make sense at times, like bodies flying straight up and down vertically. Oh and the all powerful flashlight that blinds people hundreds of feet away in broad daylight. Yea that's totally graphical prowess. The game feels less polished than its spiritual predecessor Bad Company 2 on the consoles.

Although you're correct in saying that Uncharted 3 is better than Battlefield 3 on consoles, Gametrailers specified the PC version of BF3 in the video.

So Gametrailers just handed UC3 an award that it probably does not deserve. Had Gametrailers specified that the BF3 nominee was the console version, then UC3 would have won fair and square.

BF3 is a tech demo, whereas Uncharted 3 is a masterful game with an art direction and attention to detail that BF3 doesn't even come close to touching, even on the PC. BF3 is one of the most over-rated games this generation, and is as much of a disappointment as Killzone 3, Socom 4 and Resistance 3.

Graphics aside, my GOTY Nominees are Uncharted 3 and Portal 2. I haven't played The Witcher 2 because I'm not into RPGs so much, but it looks like a quality game, and Batman: Arkham City looks good too. Pretty much every other so-called "big title" that released this year was a disappointment. I bought MW3 yesterday so I could have some fun with my friends, and theres one thing I can say about this series....at least its consistent. I've been having some fun with it, and the online modes work flawlessly as always. I would like to see the CoD series get a fresh coat of paint however.

This award is about graphics, and in that respect, Battlefield 3 is superior to Uncharted 3.

I doubt you've played Battlefield 3 on PC. I had doubts about BF3 as well because before it was launched I was merely watching youtube videos of it, but I saw what it looks like at a friend's home.

Battlefield 3 on PC is at least a generation ahead in the graphics department. Uncharted 3 looks really great but in order to truly appreciate Uncharted 3, you have to avoid the PC.

Gametrailers is heavily console-biased, as are most video game review sites.

Edit: Why do you call BF3 overrated. It's single player short-comings were mentioned by pretty much every major review site, including IGN, and it's final metacritic score is somewhere in the 80s.

Maybe you and your ilk should tone down on the usage of the word "overrated."

@solar agreed, but that's not the end all. Looking at how Drake traverses terrain and how BF soldiers do. How characters turn, and so forth, I can't help think that PC studios still have a lesson or two to learn from console developer Naughty Dog.

@DSQD-Detox no they are not and I challenge you to take a side by side of BF3 with Uncharted 3. Character animations are stilted compared to uncharted 3. Also character clipping is much more evident in BF3

lmao witcher destorys killzone 3 easily and crysis 2 is debatable, but witcher 2 has incredible art direction, which throws crysis and killzone out of the ball park

Even though that trailer was in-engine, I seriously doubt the gameplay will look any better than Uncharted 3. And the PS3 is very dated compared to PC hardware, only a fool would think otherwise.

What a joke. Firstly, Crysis 2 doesn't even get a nomination when it should come down to it or BF3 for the win. Secondly, why bother even nominating PC games if you aren't going to actually award them despite the fact that they clearly look twice as good as the console games?

Crysis 2 had boring art direction. You seen one level or Manhattan map cutscene, you seen them all. Throw in some pop-in, bugs and painted on garbage in the water and suddenly it loses its lustre. I was more impressed by Crysis 1 on consoles.

Still looks years ahead of UC3... Art direction for me is overrated. UC3 looks basically real but with slightly exaggerated colours, yet it gets lauded for its art style. Frankly the clean, crisp realism of BF3 or Crysis 2 looks nicer than a slight cartoony look.

Game graphics should always be judged based on the platform that displays it best. BF3 for PC should be counted in as Uncharted 3 (PS3 only anyways) is counted in.

What if both games had released on the Wii? Would they both be out of the nominations?

Btw when ppl discuss graphics, aesthetics, etc they need to think of creative freedom within the context and judge objectively based on that.

Would the best looking PC game have to be 10 times better looking or 5 times to get the same commendment as the best on Ps3?

Everything in Uncharted puts it ahead of every console game, this gen. Presentation, graphics, and totally cinematic gameplay (unlike anything else on consoles).

My girlfriend and I laughed as we passed a group of like 20 people gawking over Uncharted 3 as the Castle crumbling down level was being played on a Bravia. People kept asking the kid playing if it was gameplay... they truely couldn't believe it when he was telling them that it was!

Although PC's can push better graphics (which everyone knows)... why are you PC gamers always on the back burner when it comes to games?... the excitement has shifted to consoles... it's there in plain sight!

Watched them. Since you didn't play the game, atleast watch some footage of it. All of this is in-game, fully playable graphics. Movings levels and environment, absolutely brilliant.
