GameSpot - Alan Wake's New Direction

GameSpot - For all its gloomy aesthetics and creepy storytelling, the original Alan Wake was a deceptively cheeky game. Sure, you spent the bulk of your time wandering through the woods battling terrifying shadow monsters, but let's not forget that epic heavy-metal-and-fireworks stage battle, or pretty much any scene featuring hapless sidekick Barry Wheeler. So it probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise to see that Remedy is taking Wake in a decidedly more outlandish direction with the downloadable spin-off called Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

Seems like it's ditching story for action just to increase sales.

I mean Alan now seems like a action hero raher then a average writter.

What was the point...people fell in love with Alan Wake for what it was...now there adding in action, machine guns, explosions just to make more people interested in the game

This isn't Max Payne Remedy

Don't worry. Alan Wake's American Nightmare will still be great even if it's more action then story. Max Payne 1 and 2 were great action games made by Remedy.

But this isn't Max Payne...........it's Alan Wake. Max was a NYPD detective with nothing to loose who knew how to handle guns and defend himself while Alan is an everyday guy whos only talent is creative writting. Hell I bet Alan only knew how to handle himself because he wrote it into his story and got by with a whole lot of luck.

Max Payne was an Story/Action game
Alan Wake is a Story/Horror game

Anyway what I don't get is why do this as a XBLA title when Microsoft stopped Remedy from doing all the DLC episodes they wanted to do. They said themselfs there would be a lot but the sales put Microsoft off and they only did two DLCs

I was still left with the confusion over the ending still can't wait to see what happen to Alan now... Really looking forward to this one, the only sad thing about it is that is not on a disc this game deserve better...

what i miss the most will be the change in setting

I love the pacific northwest settings, its rarely done in video games

whereas the dusty mid west has been done quite a few times

Alan Wake 2 is Where the Franchise Needs to go

Welcome back Link Cable Gaming fans, by far one of my favourite surprises of the Game Awards was the surprise announcement of Alan Wake 2. Alan Wake developed by Remedy Entertainment, and released in May 2010 on the Xbox 360, Alan Wake 2 will finally be brought back. While we were treated just this year to the surprise Alan Wake Remastered earlier in October 2021, or Alan Wake’s American Nightmare in February 2012, fans never got a true sequel. What will the future of the Alan Wake franchise look like?

Perfect! a sequel that will remind me of the smell of mildew and damp coffee grounds with a side of deadly premonition.

Where else would the franchise go? Seems like a sure thing. American Nightmare should be in the remake though.

You know I was thinking alternatives right?
For all it could have been, you know how the sequel market is sometimes, weird spin - offs, spiritual successors, reimagining, a VR walking simulator (bleh) and all that.
I like the idea of an evolved sequel way more

I guess Alan Wake got a redesign lol.
Because I thought it was Jared Leto lol

It’s the same actor from the first game
