PennyArcade.com: Makers of Avenger controllers take the money and run

I got an incredible email today from a Penny Arcade reader. Dave shared with me an email chain between him and Ocean Marketing (the folks behind the Avenger controller) Trust me when I tell you that this is one wild ride. I’m serious, Mr. Toad would look at this ride and just give a slow clap while shaking his head.

"How to Destroy your Brand" 101

Baka-akaB4535d ago

I love how the idiot simultaneously flatters and insults Penny arcade at some point .

It's like "I dont care you're a small site/con , but please dont hate me" . A guy with issues that shouldnt be involved in any kind of PR job

Undeadwolfy4535d ago (Edited 4535d ago )

This is not how PR should be done. Im going to make a wwebsite which shows how before it was the internet.

Looks to me the customer was being a dick before the PR guy just went off on him. As a guy who works in retail, we get people of his kind of attitude far too often.

The fact he went ahead and posted the email to news sites before saying he did is just a dick-move. I wouldn't want to deal with you either and tell you off just like customer support did.

Read the email convo for yourself and notice how the customer was "threatening" customer support when the company already has your money. The fact it was shipped during the holiday rush: what the fuck do you want them to do about it? Teleport it?

Give me a fucking break, guy.

ilovemyps34535d ago

both were a bit "hard".

it's true the company can't teleport it, but it's also true, sometimes, companies, whenever they get your money, they will make you wait, wait, wait, so the can regroup orders, and let them have 1 or 2 or 3% extra rebate.

i know people who sell tvs and appliances online, once someone order something, even if it's supposed to be available on stock, actually, it doesn't. they wait one week, until the customer sends an email, asking when it's gonna be out for delivery: then they just say there was some delay, because of ..., and they should have it in a few days. actually, they are waiting for the item to arrive at the retailer.2, 3 weeks later, the customer already waited some time, he is ok to wait a few more days...all this because it was cheaper, when he ordered.
in 10 people like that, maybe 1 or 2 will cancel the order, all the other, will wait.

fortunately, it doesn't happen all the time, but, everywhere, sometimes it happens, just like that.

once they get your money, all you can do is wait.. wait.. and wait... or cancel your order. but if you order somewhere else, you will have to wait again, so.. you keep your order, and wait.

i'm not saying everybody do that, but, when you buy something that comes from another country, it's easy to tell customers that there was a problem with the boat, or plane, or submarine... or drone... or whatever will ship your stuff :)

FantasyStar4535d ago (Edited 4535d ago )

Yeah, I sympathize with Dave because he didn't get his stuff even though he paid almost 2 months ago. (Invoice Date was in early November 5th). But when it ships from China, that's a raw deal there.

Why Indie Games Fail To Keep Their Place In The Spotlight

A look into the sad trajectory of indie games from high successful releases to complete irrelevancy in just a few weeks or months.

Easy not enough developpers to add content to the game (palworld)

That's the thing with gaming there's always new experiences to have why spend months or years playing a single game when there's a new experience right around the corner.

Indie or AAA if your building your game expecting long term player counts you'll probably be disappointed as gamers often enjoy something for a few weeks and move on only to return if it's truely a classic.

Out of all the generations I've experienced there's games from 30 plus years ago I still dust off and play like super Mario bros, earthbound, vice city and san Andreas being games I treasure and revisit every few years but I'm not going back to play a game designed to keep me engaged for months on end because it's also designed to milk my wallet in most cases.

Build a great game that people love make it playable offline and ask does it matter if the concurrent player count is under 100 a year post launch more often that not it doesn't

The price of entry is too high to take chances like I used to. Was looking at V Rising and that ranges from $50-$130 CAD. That’s a lot for an indie imo. By the time it goes on sale, the player count might be dwindling. But that’s the trade-off, I guess.

I’m glad my preference is single player experiences, Indie devs got me covered 👊🏻

I lost my drive for collecting physical games due to many discs lacking the whole complete game. Instead, of collecting games I started collected figurines.

Popsicle20h ago

I am a collector have a room dedicated with a couple original arcade cabinets, physical game library, old and new consoles and controllers backlit with LED lighting. It’s very cool to have but with emulation being so strong and prevalent, I sometimes feel foolish because the hobby is expensive and like another said, the full game is not always on the disc. Could probably spend more wisely but I enjoy it.

shinoff21835h ago

Most games are usually on disc still. Of course you got you publishers that are hit and miss, Activision, ubisoft, ea, Microsoft, where the rest of the game needs downloaded.
