Top Gaming Disappointments of 2011

While most websites are getting together their top [enter random number here] gaming lists of 2011, I decided what better why to usher in a new year then to go over the list of disappointments from the gaming industry for the 2011 year. I doubt anybody will learn from their mistakes, but hey this gamer can hope. Right?

Batman:AC was definitely better. I hate the content pass thing, but the combat was better, the bosses were better, and I didn't roll my eyes at the climax (in fact the ending was GREAT!).

I think people have a point with dragon age
and Battlefield, though. Dragon Age 2 was awful with the combat changes and less interesting world. BF3 definitely wasn't as good as BC2 - The destruction was more interesting in BC2, the campaign didn't make every mistake in the book on game design, people didn't COMPLETELY dominate with vehicles, etc.

Dragon Age 1 IS better than 2..
Battlefield 3 is NOT the best battlefield in the series..
Killzone 2 IS better than KZ3, the developers said it themselves...
FF13 is THE worst Final Fantasy game ever...
While Uncharted 3 is a GREAT game, Uncharted 2 provided a much more enjoyable experience...

Everything I mentioned above is fact...

INfamous 2 is better than 1 and Batman AC is better than AA and I don't care which side is the majority this is the truth...

Dragon Age II is ten times better than Origins
Battlefield 3 I haven't played
Killzone 2 & 3 are equally awsome
FF XIII is my favorite FF game
Uncharted 2 & 3 are equally epic
InFamous 2 - Don't like the InFamous games
Batman - Don't like the Batman games

Yeah only thing wrong with KZ3 was them listening in the first place , for the mp , to folks that obviously didnt care much and wouldnt be playing it anyway .

Those guys never came along despite the changes , and it only turned off some kz2 fans

I still loved K3, but the infiltrator class needs to go come next game. Marksman should go too. Turning invisible, and looking like one of the other teams players. Not fair. I shoot at my own team half the time just in case.

Agree with Crysis2 and BF3. Crisis 2 was boring as hell and the fact that the devs kept on claiming that it was the best looking game on console did not help their cause either and BF3's campaign was is proof that Dice does not give a damn about gamers who do not have internet.

N4G, such a friendly community. Can't even say I think a game is great without having crybabies saying "You're not allowed to like this game. The internet hates it, which is why I hate it, and why you must hate it too". It worked on me with MW2, I hated that game before I played it, then I enjoyed it a lot when I did, but I still hated it... Then I realised I had more fun with MW2 than any other game in 2009, which was previously held by Demon's Souls and Infamous.

I can't think of many sequal's this year that weren't "expansions", Uncharted 3 MP and Skyrim being the only one's I can.

on a good day if you can put up with the crap spawning and all that it would be fun...

oh, did i forget to mention the maps. IMO and most of the friends i talk to, it is no 1 on the list.

if it was just an expansion of MW2 or cod4 even that would be better.. it's the most broken bit of dlc that came on a disk possible.

I find it really hard to believe you even played it. I think the multiplayer is the best in the series so far, the co-op is really fun with both missions and survival, and so far the campaign is good.

The maps are good IMO. There are barely any campers, they don't feel as staged and you can use them all in survival mode. Spawnkilling is an issue, but you can respawn a second after dying (TDM) so I don't care that much.

It's a much better game than BF3 IMO, that has a SP you couldn't pay me to beat, a boring co-op and a campfest of a MP. For a game that's praised for having big maps, it's got some small maps compared to BF2 (PC version included).

On consoles MW3 has better graphics too IMO, BF3 has SLIGHTLY better textures, but MW3 has so much more going on at 60 FPS that I find it more impressive looking.

MW3 has tonnes of content, fun gameplay, great sound, a good plot so far and to me, very balanced maps. It's my Shooter of the year, and a nominee for my overall GOTY.

To be fair though, when I say the game is shit I am only talking about the multiplayer. I have not touched the single player or the co-op and I don't think I will.

I lost interest with cods story and single player stuff after mw2.

As for the maps and all that, well we are at two very opposite ends here. This is probably one of the biggest things about mw3, the way it's split the community in terms of people who do like and people who don't. I see plenty of people camping but I don't mind half the amount of camping if I can get the kill.

If I see a guy camping and I shoot him and he is able to spin round and shoot me and then I watch his killcam and on his screen i have fired a single, thats another story.

I would have to ask, how much of cod4 and mw2 did you play and how good at it were you?

if you are not been affected badly by the lag compensation then it prob wont seem that bad. still mw2 worked ok without it and cod4 was fine without it. i started off as a noob and worked my way up to being good. sometimes the connection would be bad and it would like, sometimes it was good. but I never felt like i was being cheated the way mw3 does. it has to be the worst thing they could have added and i don't think there are many games able to frustrate people on such a level.

as for bf3, again I will notice i hardly compare the two because as much as I hate mw3 I am not a massive fan of bf3. I have played it a little and it does start to feel better as you rank up but overall on console I don't rate bf3 that much.

You can check my past comments, you will hardly see me saying anything about bf3. MW3 I will talk about all day because I use to be a big fan of game. they have done everything possible to make it a noob fest.

if you play on the xbox then feel free to send me a friend request and I will play with you... unless you are in the US because then the lag is so bad it's pointless.

At least in Cod4 I could play on the same team or against US players and I didn't feel like I was at the pointy end of a dildo.

1. Crysis 2 (from a Crysis 1 bloodfan perspective, this game sucked hard).
2. Modern Warfare 3 (I was a really big fan of MW2 (10 days playtime), but MW3s MP was a huge letdown).
3. Dragon Age 2.

I love my Xbox, but I cannot see the point of the whole Xbox as TV thingy. It adds to the wear and tear of your Xbox. It wastes electricity, because now instead of having just your TV running you are now running both TV and Xbox and it doesn't save money???? The only plus I can see is for MS and the greedy cable providers, this is not a plus for gamers at all. So yeah disappointment for gamers.

DA2 was a disappointment the day they announce it's release date, which was something like 16 months after releasing DAO, which was worked on for 5 years...

I'm not sure wtf is up with the Killzone disappointment. With the continuing mediocrity of CoD, the crap load of issues with BF3, the rehashiness of Halo, the barely there effort of Crysis 2, the not worth 60 dollar-ness of Bulletstorm, the same old stupid id AI running down a corridors of Rage, and the complete letdown of the MP and Co-op of Resistance 3, I'd say Killzone 3 was the best shooter of 2011 imo, and the most complete shooter of 2011. Forgot to mention Homefront, but given how bland that game was, I'm sure you'll understand...

KZ3 had it's flaws though...some from the devs and most from the community. I hate those 1hit melee bums, the infiltrator class, tacticians not capping points, engineers not fixing ammo dumps, medics not medicating, stuck on 1 map for 3 weeks in TDM, and horrible connection issues the first month. That seems like a lot of issues but compared to those other games....KZ3 was the most complete shooter this year. Decent enough single player that's not completely horrible like BF3, solid multiplayer that's not broken like MW3 or gimped like Resistance 3.

As far as the full package goes, KZ3 delivered.

DA2 was a disappointment for SOME gamers, not all. I am willing to bet for every person who disliked DA2 another person loved it. Personally it is one of my favorite games this year.

I admit it was flawed in some ways, but I think the reason it got so badly mauled by fans is due to the fact that Origins was an epic game and by Origins' standards DA2 was lacking. Regardless DA2 is a great game in its own right, it simply isn't as epic as Origins.

I also have a couple of friends who were introduced to DA through DA2 and after playing DA2 they bought Origins and if you ask them DA2 is a better game, so it is all personal opinion.

I don't think the game is flawed by Orignins standards, but more so by RPG standards. Bioware flirted with the action genre a bit too much this round and they paid for it.

As for your friends enjoying DA2 more than DAO, I can understand that. I played Bioshock 2 before Bioshock and thought B2 was the better game thanks to the updated gameplay, and the issue of retreading old ground was a non-issue for me.

But in the case of DAO and DA2, they're almost too different games and one is had the benefit of having a major graphical overhaul, while the other looks older than it actually is. But when you get past the trivial matters like graphics, you'll notice where DA2 falters. High production value simply cannot replace all that was lost going from DAO to DA2.

-You can only interact with companions when the game allows it.
-talent trees lost all depth ex: Warriors can't be rangers anymore, spirit heals only available to Hawke, Dual wielding is now rogue exclusive.
-Story does not approach the epicness of DAO. Random dude becoming the King of Kirkwall vs. Saving the world and ending the Blight.
-The entire explorable world consists of the empty streets of Kirkwall, the cave, the chantry, the abandoned mine, the warehouse, the cave, the chantry, the abandoned mine, the warehouse, the cave....all on infinite repeat.
-button mashing does not improve combat for an RPG.
-the Mass Effect dialogue tree works for Mass Effect, not DA2.
-Armor kits are a poor substitute for outfitting your crew in the gear you want them wearing and as a result, most good gear gets sold for pennies because Hawke can't use them.
-The game is filled with uninteresting characters, particularly Meril and Anders. There's also a huge presence from the original cast, but their presence in Hawke's story makes no sense.
-WTF happened to leg armor?
-lazy loot and broken inventory system. Ex: Ring,Ring,Ring, Shield,Shield,Bracers, Bracers, Bracers.
-The "rival" system is nothing but handholding. You piss off someone in DAO, they leave. You piss off someone in DA2, they mad, but still follow you around until the 3rd act when the game want's you to fight them.

The game is a complete step backwards and only those that prefer Action over RPG would enjoy DA2. It's also a blatant cash grab from a developer that is rapidly losing respect from RPG fans.

Roots? That makes no sense considering how similar KZ2 & KZ3 look and play. Nowhere near the difference between KZ1 and KZ2, or Liberation. Still the same frenetic action, good MP and high production values. A few things I missed like choosing my own servers and the detailed online stat tracking. Story's never been as good as Resistance, but overall it's not a disappointment with games like Socom 4 and Move Heroes kickin around.

KZ3 singleplayer is the worst pile of doo doo on the gaming planet...almost all the characters sicken me. its a over done good guy story, they try to make it dramatic and it comes off as soap opera-ish. The enemies were no where as memorable as part 2...I was actually more afraid for them than me lol.They hold your hand and tell you what to do through the ENTIRE GAME!!...."shoot that guy on the left", "crawl though those bushes"....uhmm I've been playing for 5 hours now

The MP howerver is fricking fantastic...I am addicted and it never gets old, I play tactician and Medic primarily

I firmly believe that each game's actual pros & cons should determine the outcome of the pricing,review & score that each game deserves not through any type of opinion.

P.S.Also sales shouldn't be a factor in making purchasing decisions on games period it should come through a well informed decision.

My list, well there is only two really.

1. Crysis 2, it just sucked. Could not get my self to finish it. I will start playing it again when I am looking to bore my self.
2. BF3 was a big disappointment, but for me, I am partly to blame because I made the big mistake of playing BF3 after I finished Uncharted 3, I should have known that there was no way that BF3 could ever live up to those standards.

My unsung Hero of gaming of 2011 has to be Resistance 3, great game that needs to get allot more credit.
