BioWare: Next Dragon Age Will Draw From Skyrim

NEW YORK — The next entry in the fantasy role-playing Dragon Age series will draw inspiration from both of its predecessors as well as open-world games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, developer BioWare said.

BioWare CEO and co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said the company has been listening to its fans and learning from the strengths and weaknesses of both Dragon Age II, the latest entry in the popular series, and other games that are on the market today.

Oh My Gawd, Bioware take it out your mouth.

ATi_Elite4512d ago

Anyway Bioware needs to copy someone cause Skyrim and The Witcher 2 set raised the bar. If they go back and take their time produce something on the level of Skyrim or TW2 then the Gamers win and that's what is important.

i even enjoyed Two Worlds II more than Dragon Age II. Too many Bioware employees were working SW:Tor or Mass Effect.

time to slow down and make quality

Pintheshadows4512d ago

I'd much rather they took from The Witcher 2 than Skyrim. For the kind of game DA Origins was that would make a lot more sense.

JaredH4512d ago (Edited 4512d ago )

Maybe they should draw from Dragon Age Origins since that's what 2 should have done since it was supposed to be a sequel and not an unwanted reboot.

I'm guessing Bioware's need to "innovate"(copy ideas from other games) and change games to be more accessible to the mass comes from them wanting to make more money instead of pleasing their fans.

The best thing is that they said they're not going to just go back to how Dragon Age Origins was for the new game because they already "adjusted 180 degrees" for Dragon Age 2 and don't want to do it again.

They are owned by EA that and yearly updates is what EA is all about

If Bioware basically takes Dragon Age Origins, gives it better graphics and streamlines the combat, I will be happy. Bioware has been going downhill lately. There STILL is not an RPG this generation (with the possible exception of Witcher) with the depth of storyline decisions that you can find in DA: Origins. 6 unique beginnings, multiple endings, and countless different paths throughout the game. Dragon Age II was such a disappointment, but DA:O is still one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

DeadlyFire4512d ago

Don't you guys get it. Bioware is dead. Its EA Bioware now. Their prime teams that love RPGs are only focused on two major IPs at the moment. They are SW:TOR, and Mass Effect 3. Everything else they are making is by new people or EA's people.

SilentNegotiator4511d ago

Unless that means exponentially better combat, I really don't care, Bioware. They took gameplay that was really only solid to begin with (game 1) and totally killed it (2). I can't remember the last time a sequel ruined a good thing THAT HARD (Bar DNF).

Like you said ME3 was going to focus on RPG elements...funny I don't see the action being toned down, the option to go back to the cool down weapons of ME or any full detail customization options yet

All I've seen so far in ME3 is action, action and more action.....hell even the gameplay videos confirm this, Shepard starts blasting away, he rolls, quickly jumps over cover, does a melee move, grabs a rocket/missle launcher and blasts away. Not once needing the help of his team mates, see that was another issue of ME2, the fact you could go in gun blazing now since the cool down weapons had been removed you didn't need to think about your teams, whether it's what boosts your skill or if you need help in the battlefield.

Oh lets not forget co-op which they've tried to shove down our throats, a feature no one wanted because they know for a fine fact it will over take peoples interests and make people forget about promises they made about a more RPG focus.

Bioware your RPG days were over long ago...

TheOtherTheoG4512d ago (Edited 4512d ago )

Who says you need to tone down the action to add in more RPG elements? It's not like the two are mutually exclusive.

Sometimes I wonder what if Zenimax brought Bioware instead of EA how would the company turn out?

Personally Bioware need to listen to its customers/fans feedback and go back to the drawing board. I don't want a DA game like Skyrim. Don't get me wrong I love skyrim but I like DA for what it is, I'm not looking for broken skyrim clone or another screwed up DA game.

sometimes i wonder what if microsoft bought them then maybe we would have jade empire 2 by now... such a shame could have been a fantastic exclusive franchise something m$ needs.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast22d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22922d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko22d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
