If the ps3 ever passes the 360, it will be years from now. If the ps3 outsold the 360 by 100,000 a month for the next 5 years it would just be catching up. Europe is the biggest video game market and PS3 is outselling the 360 by few thousands there..Also the Sony PS3 sold another 180k or more in Japan in 4 weeks of NOV and 360 sold 1k or 2k every week there..In India i think it sold half a million PS3s there already..Why do fanboys pretend like the PS3 isn't catching up because its happening right in front of their eyes right now..

I dont know how accurate VGChartZ is. But NPD isn't accurate either. They dont include all data for all retailers. It's impossible to know the sales figures for each region and be anywhere close to 100% correct. People use VGChartZ as a reference because there is no other valid source out there on the internet that tracks sales on a worldwide basis.

For you to say that VgChartZ is lying because you want the PS3 to sell more than the 360 is hilarious. Instead of spreading lies and making up your own sales stats, try providing a reliable source to back up your numbers.

Total sales in Japan show PS3 > 360
Total sales in Europe/Other show PS3 > 360
Total sales in US show 360 > PS3

Biggest market for videogames is the US. So as has been the norm on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis the 360 outsells the PS3 worldwide when you combine all sales. Want to know something else. The Wii has outsold the 360 and PS3 combined over the past year.

I have no issue with who sells more to be honest. I think we all need to stop crying foul everytime we see a sales figure that doesnt favor our console of choice. Stop spinning numbers and accept that the US favors the Wii>360>PS3 in that order.

VG Charts is not anything close to an official source.

The NPD gets paid to go out and survey retailers to determine the correct sales numbers. It is the NPD's job to get as close as possible to 100%. Companies will use the NPD's data to make future decisions. Companies will use the NPD's data for their own press releases.

When a video game company comes out and uses VG Charts's data in an official statement for one of their decisions then I'll believe it as legitimate. All this site does is add fuel to the fanboy fire.

In response to your post. All this article accomplishes is a gigantic flame war. But isn't that what all these articles do? I come here for news first. A good debate second. You will hard pressed to find any news item on here that everybody agree's on. I would rather argue about sales figures true or false than Blu-Ray/HD-DVD, Michael Bay, or anything else non game related.

Optimus Prime 2008 is entitled to an opinion like everybody else. But he has been reduced to that 1 bubble because all he does is spread FUD. I only own 1 of the 3 next gen consoles. I come here for the news first and the debate second. Most of the time I find myself typing out a comment or rebuttal only to think to myself "Wow, that sounds more fanboyism than a well rounded opinion".

I also think the BluRay vs. HD-DVD and PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii debates are rediculous. I think the biggest point that gets overlooked is that these "wars" and "races" only benefit the consumer. I do not own a high definition player. DVD movies work just fine for me on my HDTV. Scrubs, The Office, and House will always look good on DVD or some high definiton DVD.

I own one console right now. I plan on purchasing the other 2 for various reasons. This is the same strategy I used with past generations. The only generation I did not own all the systems at that time was the Sega Genesis/NES generation. Only had the Sega :( But I played the NES at my buddies place. It all works out in the end to our, the consumers, favour.

@ hydrolex, 360 does actually outsell ps3 in Australia, and they also outsell the ps3 in the UK which last time I check was not only a part of Europe but the *biggest Euro market for games. I haven't seen #'s from Africa or South America before, I know those are small gaming markets but my guess is good as yours for those regions.

everybody knows vg isn't totally accurate, occasionally they have been waay off but usually their in the ball park, so why argue over it, vgchartz is just a rough estimate until NPD #'s are released

and why are people upset over bundle #'s being counted just overlook them like MK Red said, I agree bundle game sales shouldn't count but all the consoles have sku's with games included.

With NPD #'s we KNOW for sure the 360 is comfortably outselling ps3 here in the US, but the only #'s I regularly see for Euro is vg's #'s and based on those estimates the 360 is about 50k behind weekly only recently after ps3 price drop, for all of Europe, and the ps3 easily outsells the 360 in japan, again recently up by about 35-40k a week according to mediacreate. Facts are facts, and you cant ignore one complete territory sales. Each country matters sales wise, whether it be the UK, France, Belgium or Spain, the fact is PS3 is outselling the 360 by quite a margin now on a weekly basis, and the only territory its selling more than is the US. And overall, they are on the same sales patterns anyway worldwide, so i dont see how either side can give each other stick.

Super Mario is Nintendo's system seller/killer app/flagship type game franchises, sort of like Halo for micro, meaning these games are signature games that both company's are *most known for, so alot of people who buy the console ARE HUGE FANS OF THAT FRANCHISE, and thus are likely to buy that game, while ME is not only a "new" IP, but its also in the RPG category on the 360 and I don't think I have to tell you that a significant percentage of 360 fanbase favor/prefer shooters, so in retrospect I think ME's sales are amazing when you look at the big picture and also compare them to past rpg game sales for 360. Micro has made a concious effort to vary 360's game library and this just further proves that 360 fanbase is becoming more deversified.

I'ts a decent game, but I guess it now adds to the growing list of SONY failures. Liar, Heavenly Sword, Racthet+Clunk and now Uncharted have proved to be a complete waste of time MONEY and effort for developers.

Uncharted, R&C... they're fine. They're funded by sony. Sony is the one footing the bill for these games, don't you understand that? These games will hit 1 million units world wide, easily. Think of them as investments for sony. Though none might eclipse the sales of moronic Mario games or Buggy ass ubi-soft games that crash and are complete ASS... They do generate profit for the companies involved.

How long that takes...? Well, usually a year but it matters none to Sony or Naughtydog or Insomniac cause that money is all invested and tied up anyways. Tied up in further development.

Those saying the Xbox360 can not possibly be doing well in Japan, are living in the past now.

I don't call around 50,000 copies of software in a few days, doing "badly" in fact...

Likewise, at least on two occasions the Xbox360 has even outsold the PS3- one of them when Ace Combat 6 was released.

Likewise even if Blue Dragon wasn't perfect or had a childish story, it has since sold over 260,000 copies in Japan.

Also Infinite Undiscovery and Cry On aren't the only upcoming Japanese RPGs for the system- there are others, in co-op with MS as well as tri-Ace.

Likewise, the Xbox360 has now surpassed 500,000 units in Japan which is the highest its ever gotten. To consider the lower amount of games it has as compared to say the PS2, it is doing remarkably well.

Finally, if you had not noticed I believe you should take note of this- Mistwalker *IS* Squaresoft they are the creative team behind Squaresoft.....they're no longer working with Sony, they are working with Microsoft and are doing pretty well.

Alot of ex-Squaresoft workers are in charge of Microsoft Japan now, did you know some of the scenario writers for Legend of Dragoon even joined up? The new director for MS Japan has done a fantastic job on building strong teams.

One of these teams, Sakaguchi is responsible for- Feelplus. Its made up entirely of the creators of Shadow Hearts & other RPGs. When the Shadow Hearts team disbanded, Feelplus was born.

Who do you think Square-Enix wants to work with, the slave-drivers at Sony all the time or would they rather work with Sakaguchi and the new talent in MS Japan?

The Xbox360 attach rate in Japan is 3.6, higher than the PS3 as they appear to buy many games per system.
Microsoft is determined to do very well in Japan, and they are halfway there. Sakaguchi has repeated this. Its easier to develop for & Microsoft has more sound business sense, they give alot more freedom and are getting better software on the culture side. Sony has several billion dollars, Microsoft has over 39 billion. Money talks. I think Last Remnant sales will be a measuring stick for them. I think they will start making other games, and I think Square-Enix will jump ship again, this time to Xbox at a certain time. After they have surpassed 1 million units in Japan which is attainable.

Fellow 360 friends, its time to send a message to Square-Enix!!!!!!!

The sales of Last Remnant will be one of the only things that opens their eyes, I shall be buying mine along with Lost Odyssey on day one!

Any VG Charts figure is a guess, but at least it's an educated guess. It's at least partially based on actual data, which is more than can be said of most poster's comments here. NPD numbers are probably closer to the actual numbers because they are based on more and newer data, but even their data is incomplete, so in the end they are also guesswork,albeit more educated guesswork.

VG charts is not useful as an actual bean count. What it is useful for, at best, is an indicator of general trends. In this sense, it has never been wrong. What are the general trends we see from recent VG Charts numbers? We know PS3 worldwide sales are up, but still not more than 360 sales and nowhere near wii sales. We know the 360 continues to outsell the PS3 in NA, though we don't know exactly how much. We can say the 360 also continues to outsell the PS3 in the UK and Australia. It's not as certain that the PS3 is outselling the 360 in the rest of the EU on a per country basis (the sales gaps are all within VG Charts' margin of error), but if this is true it's not by very much, except in Spain and Italy, where the gap is large enough for us to say the PS3 is clearly leaving the 360 behind. In Japan we can also be pretty sure that the 360 has flopped, but not as big a flop as XBOX 1. Still, PS3's improving Japan sales, except for a couple of weeks maybe, are still behind wii sales.

Xbox 360 winning in America which represents more than 60% of the game industry... they are also winning in the UK which is also a large pie of the game industry... the only major region the PS3 is winning is Japan... mmmm.. they can keep that one. Americans arent bias against american products... this is why the xbox 360 is selling well in America... there is no argument against the xbox 360 being a better console as far as games are concern... AAA and 3rd party games... the xbox 360 has more games... and while the brand continue to improve in features like DivX, BC, xbox originals, and lots and lots of xbox live arcade games the PS3 version is behind and even removed BC from some of their SKU... I wouldn't call that progress... how can you tell Americans not to buy an American product?
Sony may have it easy in order countries where they can convince people easly not to get a 360... but not in America.. and this is reflected on the sales... The xbox 360 sells more games than any console... have the higher software attach rate... I mean.. look at the PS3 sells.. they sell more console then games.... most of the people buying it are doing it out of loyalty to Sony and ofcourse blu-ray and web servers... what people seem to dismiss is what developers are looking at is "SOFTWARE SALES", besides the User-Base, yeah we know the 360 has a lead and have been selling steady besides the lul days of slow gaming months.

SOFTWARE SALES is where it should matters to gamers because we want developers to jump in and make more games for the Xbox 360 console.

Well regardless Hardware sales the 360 have always had pretty good Software sales numbers. Of course not just 2-3 games but a lot of games that have sold over 500K to 1Mill and up.

One thing I want to mention which I enjoy are lifecycles of systems that people speak of. You cant blindly claim that a lifecycle will be long with your proof being that its been done before. That line is pure fanboy bullshit. The system that usually has the longest lifespan is the system that sells the most. Plain and simple thats pretty much how it goes Nes went on for 9-10 years. The SNES went on for 7-8 years. Hmm why did they do that but the n64 did not? Oh thats right because the n64 didnt win the console generation.

Sony isnt stupid, if their system does not manage to break into greatness they will cut that 10 years short.
