well Naughty Dog tends to do things in three, 4 if you count the racing series though I think that stopped.

PLASTICA-MAN4563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

Huh? This confirms the PS4 will be many years away. Knowing Naughty Dog, they will only release new franchises on new Playstation platforms. Anyway, I'm fine with it as long as they do have graphical jumps like seen with this game.
The PS4 can only send you to paradise.

For infos, companies must register domains for their products so other stupid people won't take them by chance or for the nugging. Considering the domain www.thelastofus.com was already taken (by sth looking silly), it's sad for Naughty Dog to be only left with www.lastofus.com when the game is caled "THE Last Of Us". Granting these domains so early indicates the fear of Naughty Dog to see lastofus2.com and lastofus3.com domains taken by some random sadistic jokers. For the time being, it is only precautions measures, but also some hidden proofs of Sony schedule of releasing the PS4.

Edit:@-Alpha, Naughty Dog, before the release of the PS2, clearly stated that they don't want the return of mascots on new systems. We surely won't see Jak And Daxter 4 coming neiter to PS3 nor PS4. Uncharted won't continue on PS4 too even if their stories weren't finished (Daxter didn't get his intial form back, Uncharted 3 ending isn't a closure, Crash Games too). The same will happen to The Last Of Us. Maybe other companies will take the franchises aand continue them like what happened with Crash and Spyro.

-Alpha4563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

I'm pretty sure the PS4 is coming before Last of Us 3, and I doubt Last of Us is going to be released at an annual rate. That would put the PS4 at 2015 at the earliest.

If there is a trilogy, then it will likely move on to the PS4 when the time comes, which wouldn't be a bad idea, because it helps to have familiar IPs for a new console.

The fact that ND is developing this game breaks tradition enough, considering that ND has only done one main IP per console. I think if anything, this shows how much ND has evolved. They now have a "B" team to do this series and it really shows how much they've grown and how big they've become for Sony. Things change, and I think ND's success this gen evolves their outlook as a result

Sevir4563d ago

ND's "4TH Franchise" in the industry a franchise mean's more than one iterations! or a chain of things all related to each other! So this will likely have one entry on the PS3 and the other 2 come out on the PS4 or 1 on the Vita and one on the PS4..

kneon4563d ago

I think The Last of Us will be the one of the last big PS3 exclusives, and no not because of the name :)

I expect we'll get TLOU a few months or so before the PS4 announcement. Then we'll get Uncharted 4 as a PS4 launch title or at least within a few months of launch. Then having established a new fan base for TLOU we'll see the second installment a year or so after UC4.

Unlike the PS3 launch I expect for the PS4 they should be able to have a pretty consistent release train of high profile exclusives right from the beginning.

despair4563d ago

speak for yourself, I'm still hoping for Uncharted Racing :)

buddymagoo4562d ago

They should just give us the characters as drivers to use in GT5.

Thatguy-3104563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

If its true could it be that this game could very be a next gen exclusive? I mean the trailer said that the game is running on the ps3 meaning that ps4 won't be much different. I say this because I doubt Sony will make a console that has a 600 $ price tag? Next Gen might be closer than we think. I beloved 2013 will be the year ..this also goes back to the news that some of Sony's major studios have started to work on next gen games.

Bereaver4563d ago

dboyc310, prices on production of things related to what's needed in the PS4 have dropped dramatically. There's no more severe R&D, more efficient production, and cheaper supplies.
We will have a jump just as much as the ps2 to ps3 without half the cost because most of it was funded during the making of the ps3. (R&D) That's why it was $600.

But no, I disagree with you. The last of us will start with PS3 and and continue on to the PS4 in it's later iterations.

DigitalAnalog4563d ago

If anybody learned from the recent "modernwarfare3.com" that was held by a BF fan shows that one should secure domains regardless if a sequel is coming or not.

turgore4562d ago

If anything I hope the last of us 2 or 3 will be on the ps4. Would have a huge leap in graphics. This game already looks like CGI

PLASTICA-MAN4563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

In still hope there will be multiplayer mode

Prcko4563d ago

i hope not!
I want ONE GAME on market with 110% singleplayer story!!!

GribbleGrunger4563d ago

agreed. multiplayer destroys the immersion and turns every game into nothing more than i kill or be killed game. BORING

omi25p4563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

Batman Arkham City
Elder Scrolls V: Skryim
Alan Wake
Infamous 2

delicia4563d ago

Yeah, I also prefer singleplayer over mp.

Bereaver4563d ago

Well, there's so many people demanding multiplayer to not just be "slapped on" and actually be part of the game. Whereas you guys don't want it at all. It's quite a conundrum.

JTX4563d ago

I hope it's strictly single player, and not open world.

No FanS Land4563d ago

I pretty sure it's open world, but it might be a progressive open world game.

You start with a linear pattern and as more as you come to move obstacle in the city it connects the the pattern to gain that open world feel.

IMO, I think it might use a Dark Souls style of open world.

Yui_Suzumiya4563d ago

Amen, open world would compromise the narrative and graphics.

RedHotChiliPepaSpray4563d ago

Multiplayer in this type of game would simply not work. On and offline co-op however would be great

BoNeSaW234563d ago

Yeah because that worked so well for Bioshock 2 and Dead Space 2 tacking on a horrific MP.
I hope this is a Mature Single player, character driven story that last 30-40 hrs.

brodychet4563d ago

It's been confirmed, there will be no Multiplayer or co-op.

DonaldBeck4563d ago (Edited 4563d ago )

great
@prcko nice avatar man, its cool.

Bathyj4563d ago

Well der. A sequels a no brainer in this day and age. Every good game gets one, though it might end up on PS4, (good incentive to get one if you want to continue with the series.)

And a successful sequel means a trilogy is right behind it.

The Great Melon4562d ago (Edited 4562d ago )

Game development is different than it use to be. People might complain about the trilogies, but many of the games that will probably come out in the future will have been envisioned as multiple games from the beginning. Sure, this might lead to things like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed with no end in sight, but good developers like Naughty Dog might use a game like The Last of Us as a watershed for games that require multiple games for a fantastic story.

Many games and movies that are trilogies are introduced as single entries like Pirates of the Caribbean or Uncharted, but it is nice to see things like Lord of the Rings that knew what it was from the beginning. Such movies and games either require a source material that is ensured to be a hit or backing from a 1st party that enable such a vision.

tdogchristy904563d ago

I would actual like to see them keep it to a single game maybe. With such an emotion/driven story I feel it takes away if you stretch it out. i.e. Quantic dreams keeping heavy rain a single story.

Neil Druckmann: Philosopher gamer behind 'The Last of Us'

who is now the sole leader of Naughty Dog, “I promise you, we will not be ‘The Last of Us’ studio forever.” Numerous games, he said, are in the works, including “multiple single-player projects.

Lightning775d ago

I know he has a celebrity like status but unless he's announcing his game soon idc what he has to say from this point on.

We need announcement something from him.

Crows904d ago

The dude is a nobody. He's also wrong. Naughty dog is the uncharted and Jak daxter studio.

They only made one universally praised last of us game. They're not know as "the last of us studio" but they are currently known as the "remake" studio.

Lightning774d ago

I like his games tbh I'm just more upset at the fact that he's been talking and talking and not showing anything. I'm an actual fan of his work, don't cars if that's that's a popular take or not.

If he has nothing to show or talk about. I don't care about his interviews, his red carpet appearances or what's next for last Of Us 2 TV, leave that to Hollywood. You don't see SP, Bend, or any other studio doing what he's doing. They're remaining quiet and focused as most PS studios do. He should do the same. The next thing I wanna hear him say is "now heres our game" we know that probably won't be for another year or so, so he needs to remain silent and stay out of the limelight for awhile.

AsunaYuukiTheFlash3d ago

You are wrong. LOU2 won a lot of GOTY and was highly rated. It's okay to dislike the game but saying that ND just made one critical acclaimed LOU game is just hating at this point.

rippermcrip4d ago

Kind of a weird interview. No substance, hardly any questions. It's almost like they forgot to post the whole thing or something.

neomahi4d ago

Oh brother...... It's like a balloon filling with helium. He's got nothing new to say. Naughty Dog went from being a studio of numerous developers to being about him and what HE does. Bruce Straley was the co-creator of The Last of Us, and he left--I think for the same reason Christophe Balestra left and since then, Naughty Dog haven't been the same. PlayStation is incredibly woke, as all businesses seem to be these days, ignorant to what's really going on sacrificing the greater for peanuts, but I think they left because of the uprising political atmosphere. They knew there was nothing they could do about it and an attempt to try and combat it, in today's society would end them up in legal trouble so, they just left, what else can you do when the opposition behaves like a child, screams and yells louder than you want to in raged fits, and will throw lawsuits at you at whatever chance they can, but you don't play that way, so they left. And Naughty Dog hasn't been the same since.

Naughty Dog was huge at one time! They were the underdog that became the top dog but, the direction it's fine, just watch and wait. It's ego, and Druckmanns ego of thinking they're untouchable and can just coast along, will drop them rock bottom, in due time, they could see the same fate as Xbox's teams met. Fans will turn on Naughty Dog because A) Naughty Dog aren't producing, they're not what they once were.
B) Gamers ARE growing tired of the woke culture overtaking their lifetime hobby. They're just more silent about it, it's the quiet cool

anast4d ago

Non of this makes sense. I would like to think you didn't spend too much time writing it.

Crows904d ago

I hope you didn't spend much time reading..it...cuz obviously you didnt understand it. But that's okay. There's many other comments to read...

MIDGETonSTILTS174d ago

You project your own views on the world, and that is a mistake.

Crows904d ago

Um...so you project someone else view on the world? What are you talking about?! We all project our view on the world lol...smh

anast3d ago

It's called perspective. I understand that. But I don't understand the poster.

smashman984d ago

you know it's not his fault that people are interested in what he says, right?

Also, Naughty Dog is bigger than ever.

Crows904d ago

Smaller....where's their last big game? Yeah...I remember when they were actually releasing heavy hitters.

smashman982d ago

@Crows90 It was in 2020 and despite what a vocal minority says it was critically acclaimed and the 2020 game of the year. Not only that but The Last of Us is also a critically acclaimed television series and PlayStation's most successful foray into Film and TV yet.

So yes, Naughty Dog is bigger than ever, and just because you don't vibe with them or whatever does not change that fact.

anast4d ago

He's a solid theatre arts person, but he's not a philosopher. Being good at one thing doesn't mean he's Descartes.

DarXyde4d ago

I believe that philosophers are more principled than Druckmann, to be honest. It's fascinating that The Last of Us Part II was literally inspired by the Israel-Palestine conflict and was a needed commentary on humanity and ending the cycle of violence, only to have some questionable commentary after 7 October.

I don't hate the guy as some others seem to. He's been a big part of some great games, but I'll never understand the obsession with hanging on all of his statements.

Chard4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

That's a good point in relation to 7 Oct - a far more important issue where valid criticisms could have been made of this guy, but most here seem thoroughly distracted by trivial issues

anast3d ago

@DarXyde

Like all artists he has a signature. People that have an agenda will try to look for that signature and use it. This is why a lot of "journalist/game influencers" hang on every word. Most of us just enjoy his work and get hyped when he mentions something about a possible new game.

@Chard
"a far more important issue where valid criticisms could have been made of this guy"

Which is?

MIDGETonSTILTS174d ago

Sony should try and stay radio silence outside of hard reveals.

It’s painful to wait for any info at all, but it’s less painful than skimming an interview that avoids all details whatsoever.

Commit to radio silence, Sony. You can afford to leverage the trust in gaming output that you’ve cultivated.

anast3d ago

That wouldn't be a smart decision. There must be a constant stream of connection in today's world.

MIDGETonSTILTS171d 14h ago

When a constant stream of connection delays a game 1-2 years, and said games take 5 years to make anyways…. Sony fans are better off trusting Sony to deliver than expecting frequent confirmation.

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast127d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs124d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast124d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs123d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast123d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer127d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing69127d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs124d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing69124d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.
