Metal Gear Solid Rising is Now Revengeance

The Spike TV Video Game Awards might not air for another few hours, but one of the show's biggest reveals is already on the 'net. Game Informer has posted the leaked Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer found on NeoGaf. (Yes, that's a new subtitle.)

I just hope there's some type of stealth involved and it's not just pure hack 'n slash...

Prophet-Gamer4547d ago

let's just face it, this is not a Metal Gear game, PERIOD. Seriously disappointed, hell MGS4 even looks better than this and it's 4 years old. This is seriously disappointing, to me at least.

Neckbear4547d ago

This is as much of a Metal Gear game as AC!D was.

Just saying, for those who can't comprehend that a franchise CAN branch off to more than just one genre or gameplay style.

Commander_TK4547d ago

Saw the trailer. Lol, no stealth whatsoever. I'd rather play Ninja Gaiden.

GraveLord4547d ago

I'm guessing they're using this new engine because the Xbox 360 can't handle the MGS4 engine.

This game is being aimed at western audiences.

Jinxstar4547d ago

I looks like Asuras wrath. Over the top... I mean MGS was never very realistic but this is just silly.

It will however sell like Crazy just because of the name. Same as final fantasy or any other eastern developed game that if you renamed no body would give it a second look.

My opinion anyway...

ABizzel14547d ago

MGS4 looks better because it was exclusive so all efforts were focused solely on the PS3, and also because this game was start from scratch all over again after the previous developer was dropped. The graphics I'm sure will look just as good as MSG4 if not better by launch.

Example: Rising was suppose to take place before MGS4 showing how Raiden went cyborg ninja, and now it takes years well after MGS4.

But I seriously doubt this will be anything like a Snake adventure. I think this will be full on hack and slash with a minor emphasis on stealth if any. That's a bit of a disappointment, but since it's being developed by Platinum games we know the gameplay should be great. The game should look great. And hopefully the story will be done by Kojima -_- not Platinum's strong suit.

Although I read somewhere that this was Platinum's take on MGS, so they may very well be writing the story in which case hardcore Metal Gear fans may want to skip over this addition to the series.

dark-hollow4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

why people are angry about this game???
final fantasy tactics is not real ff
halo wars is not real halo! but nobdy cried about it!
think about it, since platinum now will develop it that means the whole kojima team can focus on mgs5.

its a win-win!

Megaman_nerd4547d ago

Raiden is part of the main franchise, in fact he was the main character on MGS2 for god's sake. This is not just a random spin-off that has nothing to do with the main series like saying, FF tactics, this is more like those crappy Kingdom Hearts spin-off that are still part of the overall story even if they are just spin-off.

creatchee4547d ago

@dark-hollow

The people that are mad about this are Sony fanboys for the most part. If this were a PS3 exclusive, the trailer would be heralded on N4G as a "bold new direction" or "an exciting spinoff".

Similar behavior was seen when FFXIII and GTAIV were announced as multiplats, and went from "OMG best game evers" to "meh".

PirateThom4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

@creatchee

I'm pretty notorious on here for my enjoyment of Sony console but, more importantly, I am a huge fan of the franchise, I can accept this as a decent game in the same way Ac!d was a decent game, but what I will not do is accept that as part of Metal Gear's main cannon because, quite simply, MGS4 already explained what happened to Raiden and giant mechs were not being tossed.

creatchee4547d ago

@PirateThom

I definitely agree on Revengeance not being canon, but you have to admit that there is animosity on the part of certain Sony faithful towards this and other games that were formerly exclusive franchises.

Either way, I hope that it's good.

ABizzel14547d ago

The main reason people are complaining is because this is a Platinum game and not a Kojima game. Platinum games is known for going above and beyond over the top, and while MGS can be a bit farfetched at times, it still lives in the realm of believability.

1 giant mech toss for Platinum games.
1 stab in the heart to all MGS fans.

is that even a word?

Can't find it in Webster but the urban Dictionary has something!

Learned something new today I guess.

syrion4547d ago

Metal Gear SOLID Rising ? Really ?!
from the trailer i can only see Metal Gear Rising !

Reborn4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

I believe it was indicating a new name change.

It's called MGR: Revengeance now.

despair4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

I think he was referring to the SOLID part, never was a part of the name, and thats important.

listenkids4547d ago

When the game was originally announced it was indeed Metal Gear Solid: Rising

despair4547d ago

not true, it was always metal gear:rising, not solid

listenkids4547d ago

@despair As It won't let me directly reply to you, you can either go watch the original E3 reveal or check the original promotional image - http://blog.gamer20.com/wp-...

despair4547d ago

whoops, I stand corrected, my apologies.

PirateThom4547d ago

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is pretty redundant as far as titles go, why not just Metal Gear Rising?

Prophet-Gamer4547d ago (Edited 4547d ago )

As long as they drop the Solid, this game is a disgrace to MGS. Shouldn't have Metal Gear in the title either, but eh, at last it's not as bad as having the full MGS title.

PirateThom4547d ago

True... I just can't get over it's not even a Kojima Productions game anyway.

Soldierone4547d ago

"Solid" is gone, that's all that matters. If I could I'd try for them to get rid of Metal Gear part too. This looked nothing like Metal Gear, period.

Tuxedo_Mask4547d ago

Because if it's successful they can turn Metal Gear Rising into a franchise.

LolololRumz4547d ago

Thank god they got rid of the 'solid'. Revengence though i'm not too sure on

REVENGEANCE: TRANSFARRING OF LIBERATRIOTS

jack_burt0n4547d ago

lmfao......i heard you say that as kojima v funny

SDF Repellent4547d ago

huh, Revengence? Adding a subtitle already to a brand new game. Is Konami trying to make this into a series or trilogy?

Metal Gear Solid Can Work Without Hideo Kojima

There are more good non-Kojima Metal Gear games than one would realize. Scientifically, three examples prove a trend, and in this feature are three excellent Metal Gear games that Hideo Kojima did not direct.

I hope so, still cant forget MGS Survive , the first MGS game without Kojima involvement and it was a complete failure, the thing is Kojima way of thinking is outside the box and that's why their games 99% end up unique, original and a almost instant classic. MGS series are full of intricate things that somehows connects to each other, Lalulilelo, the Patriots, Outher heaven, Foxhound, PMCs , heck even Kojima manage to insert DARPA in there lol, a US government Defense Agency. So is really great MGS3 Remake is reviving the series but without Kojima who knows of the end result, I hope Konami have another or more developers insight their studios who can also think outside the box.

senorfartcushion354d ago

It actually can’t. But it won’t matter.

Kojima is Metal Gear the same way that Christopher Nolan is The Dark Knight, or David Lynch is Twin Peaks: The Return episode 8. Artistry is the creation of a thing from your own thoughts and feelings. Take away the original artist’s thoughts and feelings and you have a new thing entirely.

This isn’t going to stop the mega corporation creating a fake version and spending millions TELLING customers that it’s made with the same thoughts and feelings. The masses will buy the idea the same way the corporation will sell the idea.

just_looken353d ago

I guess everyone forgot metal gear solid rising was tossed to platnium games with a story script and that is it.

Z501353d ago

Kojima was involved in Rising tho

just_looken352d ago

kpjima just did the story everything else was platnium games look it up.

Hence i said script

neutralgamer1992353d ago

i think the bigger issue is whether or not Konami is actually interested in fully funding AAA games development. Even this remake is done by a studio not really known in gaming industry. Quality remake/projets vs cheap cash in quick releases. Which way will Konami head. I am a huge MGS fan and i feel like Kojima did long time MGS fans dirty with how made MGS5 and it's story elements

senorfartcushion353d ago

Remakes and remasters provide a gateway through to producing AAA games faster and cheaper.

RaveTears353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Actually MGS Portable Ops which was technically the first canon MGS game that Kojima wasn’t mainly involved with it. Kojima was only the producer but not the writer and director.

Konami did other MGS spin off that were successful but that because Konami put effort. Just along Konami is not lazy and cash grab, they can a MGS game without Kojima.

i mean sure, but he made it the thing it is today and why people love it so much.

i think its not easy to replicate.

Flawlessmic354d ago

I doubt it could.

Say what you want about the bloke, but his games are uniquely his.

I don't think anyone makes games like kojima does, for better or worse.

Could mgs continue without him, yea maybe, but it would lacking his genius so wouldn't be the same.

Soulsborne354d ago

Well , he already created it. They just have to recreate it? Not like its a new concept or IP. Trash article.

Terry_B354d ago

Yes. It only needs motivated clever people.

Why We Need Metal Gear Rising 2

Demand for a sequel is about to skyrocket, like the good ol' days of 2013!

In case you're living under a suspiciously rock-shaped object, the recent PlayStation Showcase revealed that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will be coming, alongside a Master Collection of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3. While it is a remake of an existing game, there's a great deal of significance to it, considering the last time a game in the series came out was back in 2018 with Metal Gear Survive (and the less said about that, the better). Konami's decision to pull a Konami and feud with series creator Hideo Kojima has long left the fate of Metal Gear uncertain, but this recent announcement has led to all bets being off as to where Metal Gear can go from here.
