Well they were disappointing.

LOL this game looks bad it looks like a COD game lol. I mean they move so stiff the animations is way bad. This games lighting and textures are no where near as good as BF3. BF3 in direct x10 looks better than this.

milohighclub4524d ago

I can't wait til next gen. Can't wait til all games have an animation system that at worst is as good as uncharted 3.

peowpeow4523d ago

What awi said. It looks like CoD, animations, character models. Fire/terrain looks better but wow I'm sure they can do better :/

Perjoss4524d ago (Edited 4524d ago )

Is it like a joke? because Battlefield 3 still looks better, even on consoles. Is it some kind of stealth way of telling Crytek that their new engine sucks? I'm confused.

edit: no offence to who ever created this stuff, as I have no idea of team size and budget etc. I'm sure people worked very hard to make that, they don't deserve to be mocked just because some journalist decided to compare it to a AAA title.

whatever.

enfestid4523d ago

It's a simulation. The purpose isn't to show off fancy graphics.

This article and the people commenting on it are missing the entire point of the project.

Codeman4204523d ago

yea was going to say the terrain looks nice but the ppl and vehicles look like trash

Cry Engine is just visuals... Frostbite combines the movement from FIFA, Destruction, awesome textures and models and makes it very easy for some pcs to run... DICE did an awesome job in making BF3 to some old pcs...

Optical_Matrix4524d ago

This. All I see from CryEngine is nice graphics and maybe physics. Frosbite has that, as well as some of the best animation, textures and destruction I've seen in a game. I wonder how far CryEngine would go if you added BF level destruction to it.

What the RTI site doesn't tell you is that after their announcement things changed and Dismounted Soldier was ordered to adapt to VBS2 instead of CryEngine. VBS2 is being upgraded to the Arma II Operation Arrowhead Engine (RV3) for the US Army, Marines, Australians, etc and the Dismounted Soldier Project will use RV3 as well.

CryEngine cannot stream (page) terrain nor display 10K plus view distances for training and mission rehearsal. It doesn't have a RTE (Real Time Editor), OME (Offline Mission Editor), nor an AAR (After Action Review) tool that is found in VBS2. A dev kit and dev tools are not the same thing as an OME or RTE which is needed so end users can rapidly build missions and change missions on the fly while they are in progress.

fyi guys, textures aren't engine specific >__> Neither animation for the most part.

Fylus4524d ago (Edited 4524d ago )

Exactly. And Crytek are the whiniest bunch of developers in existence. I lost so much respect for them after all their complaining before the release of Crysis 2. But like you said; CryEngine is just visuals.

Orpheus4524d ago

No matter what they say i still bliv crysis 1 looks better than crysis 2 ... the shading is totally degraded ... the new techs like tessellation , dof doesnt compensate for that ... leaves used to look like leaves ... specially banana tree leaves

enfestid4523d ago

This post is highly uninformed. Textures and models? That has to do with the specific game, not with the engine itself. Both engines are capable of similar texture and model work.

You're right, though. Cry Engine is just visuals... because it is a GRAPHICS ENGINE. That's kind of the point. Your post seems to be comparing Crysis 2 to Battlefield 3. That's not the same as comparing the engines that power each.

Look pretty good to me....thats a leap toward Next gen ....now only if they can ppull it off in an actual game

milohighclub4524d ago

Dude, really? current Consoles can pull that off.

Rainstorm814524d ago

the first vid doesnt look bad at all (like alot of the helicopter scenes) the second vid (like the fire fighter scene) does look like it can be done currently but some of the bullet penetration stuff looked really good too

But i do agree their animations are not too good

KeiserSosay47884524d ago

Looks good until you see the soldier animations. This is where I believe Frostbite destroys CryEngine 3.

RyuDrinksTheDew4524d ago

ah man, those animations are so bad, completely breaks the immersion.

CE5 has a higher framerate but CE3 looks better at times...

I guess this is because CE5 is just supposed to be a Cryengine for VR and not much more

Imortus_san2953d ago

CE3 looks much better, more defenition and more vibrant colors.
