The ridiculous part is that Dark Souls isn't above Skyrim in rankings and reviews. Gameplay over 5,000 side quest any day, this is why I love Dark Souls!

What point is there to having 5,000 side quests if the core combat mechanics are so lacking? Same problem GTA IV had, which also received way higher scores than it deserved.

slayorofgods4527d ago

We could also say Dark Souls uses it's hard (or tedious) combat to hide the shallowness of it's level designs.

I'm a fan of both these games, Dark Souls is a fun game. But it has nothing on Skyrim as far as development goes... That is why Skyrim deserves to be ranked higher for GOTY.

"We could also say Dark Souls uses it's hard (or tedious) combat to hide the shallowness of it's level designs. "

And you can say that pigs fly, both statements are completely false.

Akiba964527d ago

@slayorofgods

we could also say that skyrims 1000 fetch quests is to mask its crappy gameplay.
ill take darks souls gameplay over skyrim anyday. they arent even in the same league.

slayorofgods4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

Akiba96

You mean like you "fetch" souls and weapons in Dark Souls. The only difference is Dark Souls has sub par scripting so the world feels alien.

I'll take new quests for "level grinding" as opposed to fighting enemies that stay in the same exact spot over and over again.

Akiba964527d ago

@slayorofgods
if you wanna be like that than sure. i would rather go kill demons to earn souls than travel a mile to talk to someone only to have them tell me to turn around and go talk to someone else....ya..fun right.

slayorofgods4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

Akiba96

So now I'm the bad guy after you guys just got done trashing Skyrims quest system, don't act holier then thou now...

The Souls series, despite being fun, just doesn't have the development and level design most AAA games have and you know it. How can that give it a one up on Skyrim whom has a great level design and, despite your opinion of fun, best scripting seen in any game this year.

Skip_Bayless4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

We should all just team-up and try to get Skyrim to win Game of the Year because if Zelda wins this year it's gonna be a slap in the face. Whether you're a Batman advocate, or Uncharted 3 fan you must support Skyrim to win because it is the logical choice to win Game of the Year.

If Zelda wins we will never hear the end of it from Nintendo fans. They will say graphics don't matter because 6 years going into a generation on a "last gen" console the Wii still manages to get Game of the Year.

That's just blasphemous and asinine!! Because a Wii game cannot compare to a current gen game.

Akiba964527d ago

@slayorofgods

i dont see how im being holier than thou.

and no, i dont know. gameplay is way more important to me than and in that case dark souls wins hands down imo

Why are people disagreeing with you? Everything you said is 100% true.

Megaman_nerd4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

probably the same people that did what he just said. But the truth is that Nintendo games always get a free pass from everybody because of their long history. ;)

slayorofgods4527d ago

I'm not sure if people voted for the underdog or what?...... I think we all know Skyward won't beat Skyrim for GOTY.

Mykky4527d ago

Yep that was exactly what people were encouraging others to do on Skyrim forums. Probably done from both sides though, so I don't see your point going to the favor of any of the games.
I honestly did not care much who won as I love both games but in the comment section the ones who voted Skyrim said Zelda was childish and was on the shitty wii, while the ones who voted Zelda praised both games. Both deserve GOTY just as much.

I just don't get it

I wish everyone would ge off the hype train and realise that Skyward Sword isn't as good as past Zelda games. It's empty and has the same kind of missions throughout the entire game compared to Skryim which is massive and will keep you going for months.

Lets put it this way

If Skyrim was like Zelda SS and it had you going from one dungeon to the next with only the same old "Go fetch me this" quest in between and a "climb a vine, open the treasure chest" moment would Skyrim then be getting 10/10 scores it's been getting.................I think not.

People are hanging on to Ocarina of Time still, like how people hang onto Mordern Warefare when the next COD comes out resulting in the yearly CODs getting a good score even though it's the same old crap which dosen't improve, yet it never truely lives up to that game in the back of their minds. With Ocarina of Time being an old relic in gaming now, people are still hopeing for a game which is 10 times better then it....after 5-7 months people will start to admit that Zelds SS wasn't as good as OOT, Wind Waker and even Twlight Princess but it's not like they can go back and change the over hyped review scores can they. I hope for the day we can admit that Zelda is reviewed first on the franchises name and nostalgia before it's reviewed on actually gameplay.

Shackdaddy8364528d ago

Have you even played it? I see you bash Nintendo a lot so I highly doubt you even have a wii let alone this game...

WhiteLightning4528d ago

LOL...bash Nintendo alot

The only time I say something about Nintendo is when it's about this overated game.

Seriously, you get called on here that your bashing Microsoft all the time, then Sony and now Nintendo. I guess people say anything when they get upset.

Yeah I've played it, I have a Wii, sits right along side my 360 and PS3.

Why is it when you say something like your opinion on here people bash you for it if it isn't in favor of there and then go on to make up accusations like the "you havent played it" or "you havent got it" statements <sigh>

Shackdaddy8364527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

^I'm not complaining about your opinion. Everyone thinks differently. I just thought that every comment I have seen when you talk about Nintendo is usually something bad. My mistake.

EcoSos34528d ago

I got both games and no Im not one of those people that says OOT was the best Zelda game for me it will always be A Link to Past, that game was the one that introduce me to gaming. Skyrim is bit repetitive I like it, got 56 hours into it just finish the story mode.

I dont really like to compare both they are completely different games meant for different gamers o and dont compare Zelda to COD there's a difference between a one year game to a five year game quality.

SnipeySnake4527d ago

You sound like a butthurt, jealous fanboy. If you've played the game you would know how good it is.

rexbolt4527d ago

skrim smore like walk for to hours fight corny bad guys with bad combat shitty story zelda is better then skrim nuff said i rather clib vines 7000 times then fight a single monster in skrim ith that shitty as combat

Titanz4528d ago (Edited 4528d ago )

Redsteel 2 comes close, but it isn't the same type of game. I could understand people that liking it better than past Zelda titles, but you're fooling yourself if you believe SS isn't above average.

Pick up your Move controllers (or work it out with Kinect) once in a while, then you'll probably notice how much motion controls can add to a title.

LoaMcLoa4528d ago

Skyward Sword is the best game I've played this year, so I don't see any problems!

But I'm a little surprised that AC would be in the final battle...

Troll-without-Bridge4528d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

I voted for zelda. That game is a amazing.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast23d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22923d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko23d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave23d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan23d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
