Keighley: Alan Wake XBLA is “effectively” Alan Wake 2

VG24/7: Alan Wake’s debut on Xbox Live Arcade is more than you think, according to VGA boss and GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley, who’s said it’s “effectively” Alan Wake 2.

WhiteLightning4543d ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I was just managing to take it in that they were going to do a spin off before a sequel but now......THIS is the sequel.

So much for people going on saying things like "There just getting ready for AW2" or "There just seeing if it's worth AW2"

Sorry but it's pretty obvious now.....Microsoft had this amazing franchise which was a nice change from all the FPS/TPS you see on the console and just like the first one...they just don't give a crap about it

TheBlackMask4543d ago

Alan Wake 2 deserves a full retail release....

Why would they do this, if they wanted sales they should of made it MP

NYC_Gamer4543d ago (Edited 4543d ago )

they did this because selling 100,000- 500,000 digital would bring them more profit then selling those numbers at retail..i'd rather take the digital release over some tacked on mp.

NeoBasch4543d ago

I'm pretty sure he meant multiplatform. ; )

IronFistChinMi4543d ago

Way to jump the gun. He's talking about how they've improved the engine/gameplay mechanics, not the plot.

MrManchild4543d ago (Edited 4543d ago )

1. Alan Wake IS a third person shooter. Have you even played the game? What sets it apart from other shooters is basically the setting and the story.

2. They do give a crap about it. Or else they wouldn't have greenlit this project.

Let's just wait and see excactly what the game is about. For all we know this could be an episodic game. Considering how AW was structured, I think it could work very well.

JaredH4542d ago (Edited 4542d ago )

It is sad but the reason is not enough people bought it to justify all the money spent on marketing and distribution especially with the web series and things like that.

Alan Wake was one of my favorite games last year since it felt so different and had a great story compared to other games. As long as Night Springs has a good story and more game play variation I'll most likely buy it.

Edit - I don't know if this is true or not but on wikipedia it says Alan Wake was pirated 1.1 million times which is kind of shocking since that was pretty much the amount of sales it got.

guigsy4542d ago

I think 6-8 hour experiences are better in the downloadable space. Charging full price for a game that can be clocked in a weekend with no multiplayer doesn't cut it in today's market. Are you saying you would rather pay full price for the same experience?

jetlian4542d ago

is people think 6-8 hours isnt enough. If you only playing it once then you should be renting. I would pay 60 again for that amount of time.

Even with that amount of time its better than seeing 10 movies at the show

Solidus187-SCMilk4542d ago

yeah sure ps3 fanboy. Like you played AW anyways. Im just glad they are making more of it. I will buy it just like I got AW.

Wake sold over 1.5 million copies, most of them digitally. Of course they'll take the chance to turn it into a digital series. It's where the majority (five times more people got it digitally) of the fans are.

And the best game i've played this year was digital (Crysis 1). Stop acting like this means the game will be any worse.

TheBlackMask4543d ago

"And the best game i've played this year was digital (Crysis 1)."

Wow...

I'm guessing you hated Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, SKyrim, Gears of War 3, Saints Row 3, Batman AC, Zelda SS for example

Lets face it Crysis on the PSN/XBLA was good but it was nothing we havent seen before. I guess you don't have a big taste in games

coolbeans4543d ago (Edited 4543d ago )

You're showing just how low this site's community can be by vehemently assualting his opinion like that.

It's one thing to respectfully disagree; it's another when you make someone out to be "just somebody whom isn't a REAL gamer" in your eyes.

Focus4542d ago

Thats so weird, I didn't know that loving one thing the most automatically meant hating everything else.

coolbeans4543d ago

Knew it, this means they're essentially making Alan Wake 'Season 2'. WTF is wrong with some of you? This works in respect to the gameplay they're trying to accomplish: episodic content released on a predetermined schedule (like the TV show it alludes itself to being). I think they'll keep to this formula, then give it a retail release once the "TV season" is through.

green4543d ago

Just so happy to hear that We are going to be getting more Alan Wake and the fact it's not dlc but a proper stand alone title makes the news even better.

Well. They know what they gotta do…

toxic-inferno13d ago

Exactly.

With every article like this, I becomr more convinced that an announcement is inevitable. Hoping for something around the time of the game's 1-year anniversary.

-Foxtrot13d ago

I want to believe they are just hanging on to try and get the last drop out of the digital market but another part of me thinks it’s just spite at this point, not wanting to admit their business move was a f***** terrible decision

They made out it was because they wanted to offer it cheaper to us but me and others would have gladly paid the standard for physical. Even a collectors edition would have been nice to buy.

toxic-inferno13d ago

Absolutely. What would the harm have been? Offer the digital version at the lower price they want, and a "Collector's Edition" with some fairly naff additions for 50% more. I'd have gone for it without question.

Cacabunga13d ago

physical release or go home Remedy.

_Decadent_Descent13d ago

Bringing it to Steam would definitely help too. Although I suspect getting a physical release is probably more likely, and even that doesn't look good.

neutralgamer199213d ago

Waiting on steam release otherwise no buy. And I would double dip to get physical for ps5 or XSX but remedy have to first admit there is a problem before a solution is made available

darthv7213d ago

i think its an Epic game though.... does Epic release games on Steam?

notachance13d ago

definitely waiting for steam version, I never buy a game on another storefront at all.. even gamepass games I'd just try for a bit then buy the steam version if I like it.

Yui_Suzumiya12d ago

Yeah, I'm waiting on a Steam version as well.

wesnytsfs12d ago

Not sure at this point a physical release makes sense. Would you even recoup enough lost money on the costs to get the game released physically. Mots who wanted to play the game did not sure you would sell enough copies to recoup the costs to get the game out physically.

IMHO, it just wasn't that good. It's not as good as QB or Control.

TheEroica12d ago

Exclusive games.... The cancer of modern gaming. Only corporate friendly husks root for exclusive games as a model.

seanpitt2312d ago

What were they expecting.. release digital only and make there money back, come on! they shot themselves in the foot alienating all the fans of physical media.. now the hype has gone down it will be difficult to shift copies now even if they do release disks. Only way of making extra $ release on ps plus

wesnytsfs12d ago

Blows my mind someone would pass on obtaining a game they wanted to play just so you can have the case and a game disc that is already out of date to the current live version. The boxes upon boxes and totes full of game and game related accs and hardware when I moved made me grateful for all the digital stuff I had.

darthv7213d ago

I bet it would if they just pressed a few discs and sold them at retail.

monkey60213d ago

I still haven't bought it. Would have if it was physical though

TheProfessional12d ago

Alan Wake 2 is also just not that good. Its the sequel to a good but not great game to begin with and the case board "gameplay" was terrible and there wasn't enough combat. Also the live action stuff looks really cheap and Sam Lake didn't need to put himself into alan wake 2 for no reason.

shinoff218313d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Lol. I imagine there's still alot of people that buy physicals. Or atleast see what kind of new games are out by what they see in real stores. This is on them. Idda paid 70 day one physical. Now I won't pay more then 15 for it

Crows9013d ago

You don't have to imagine
...still at least 40% of sales come from physical.

Amplitude13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

I'd imagine significantly more than 40% of PC gamers also only buy games on Steam.
Maybe a crazy remastered Steam release will launch alongside the RTX 6070 or something once the Epic Store's gone for good. EGS is basically a Fortnite launcher that also sells games with an unreasonably amount of missing features. Alan Wake and Fortnite have absolutely nothing in common either. I can't imagine this sold well and there's no way Epic would ever fund something this big ever again. Basically though; when Fort dies, EGS dies and I hope a Steam release will come after so this game can get the audience it deserves.

I bought a 360 for AW1 and have been waiting years to play AW2 but I just haven't had the ability to buy it yet. I was gonna "steal" it but I just felt too terrible about it half way through the intro. I've since just stopped caring. I'm patient

Good-Smurf13d ago

This game and Sonic Dream Team needs physical release fast.

ElaBosak4d ago

No one cares about games on discs.

Good for them! Can't wait for Control and Max Payne remakes.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran827d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto26d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia27d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger27d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie26d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

27d ago
Profchaos27d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie26d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh26d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
