Game Vortex reviews Uncharted - 98/100

Another great review of this stellar ps3 title has come in . Game Vortex is listed at Gamerankings and this is what the reviewer said :-

"Your main character is Nathan Drake, a ruggedly handsome guy on a mission. His sometimes sidekick, Elena, was really annoying to me in the beginning of the game, but then grew on me once they were reunited later on. Enemies are generic pirate types, but the things they spout out while in pursuit of you never get tiring. Neither do Nathan's quips, for that matter. In fact, they become more endearing the longer you play. My favorite has got to be "Oh no" or "Oh crap" when a grenade lands too close. I know it doesn't sound like much, but when he says it, it's really funny. Nathan's attitude is "take things as they come" and he never really seems to stress. He just adapts and becomes a very loveable protagonist.

The soundtrack is of the rousing, sweeping, orchestral variety during times of battle. Its pleasant stuff and very well done. During downtime, ambient music and sound effects tinker in the background. It's not unusual to hear birds chirping and cawing, water flowing and waves crashing in the outdoor areas. While in the various caves and buildings, you'll hear appropriate creaking sounds and fire torches crackling.

Writers Strike Wages On…
Posted by frankmeyer - Monday, December 03, 2007 3:08 PM
Looks like dang writers strike ain’t ending time soon, despite what you may have read from the Liberal Media…

Sure, it’s crippling Hollywood and turning TV into a rerun circus.

Sure, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have made what they feel is a "groundbreaking" offer to the writers regarding Internet distribution (titled the "New Economic Partnership"), which is the sticking point everyone is up in arms about. But the Writers Guild refers to the offer as "a massive rollback" and continues to press for more cash for Internet downloads and original Web content.

But the issues at hand are streaming video and Internet distribution, and the writers argue that when stuff they wrote is posted or distributed online they should be paid just as they are when the show airs on television. The networks currently consider these "promotional" uses, even when ads are used and they make money, so they don’t wanna give up sh*t.

New 'CoD', 'Guitar Hero', and 'Tony Hawk' Yearly
Posted by bleahy - Monday, December 03, 2007 3:06 PM
After the huge news of Vivendi buying merging with Activision, the new entity of Activision Blizzard plans on publishing a new version of Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and Tony Hawk every year.

What does this mean for you, the gamer? Well, it probably means Infinity Ward is already deep into development of CoD5 or will be skipping the next version as they skipped 3. Either that or the game will not be as polished as CoD4.

As for Guitar Hero, some of us think it will suffer while others believe it will be fine. It isn't too time consuming to create new tracks, but where does DLC enter into this? Will the GHIII DLC be cut short (as it was for Guitar Hero II) to make room for GHIV?

Then there's Tony Hawk... Early rumor has it that the next version of the long-standing franchise will be more realistic. That probably has nothing to do with skate. Also, they've had no problems cranking one out every year.

How do you feel about this? Realize, that if this actually happens, by 2010 we will be playing Call of Duty 7, Guitar Hero VI, and the 13th Tony Hawk game.

NBC Finally Removed From iTunes
Posted by mdalonzo - Monday, December 03, 2007 2:59 PM
Remember when we told you that NBC and iTunes were done with each other? Well, today, the last of NBC's content was removed from Apple's download site, and that means that the divorce, as they say, is final. Worry not, NBC fans, you'll be able to go to the network's portal, NBC Direct, to see all of the online content you want.

Of course, you will only be able to watch those shows on Direct for 48 hours, and not at all if you have a Mac, but we assume they're still working out the kinks on that one. Also, if you're really desperate, you can turn on your television and watch that way.

Montel To Apologize For Outburst
Posted by mdalonzo - Monday, December 03, 2007 2:26 PM
Montel Williams is going to have a high-school intern that he verbally assaulted on his show so that he can apologize. Apparently, Williams insulted the young reporter, Courtney Scott, when she had the temerity to ask him if pharmaceutical companies would stop research on new drugs if it meant squeezing off their profits. See, Montel is an advocate of prescription drugs for the poor, but apparently not so radical that he can accept the idea of greedy pharmaceutical companies letting people die in the name of profits.

Anyway, Scott, later that day, ran into Montel in another place, and he thought she was following him, so he said the following: "I can look you up, find where you live and blow you up." So, now he's inviting Courtney on his show so that he can apologize. We hope he cries. Hard.

Blades Of Robo-Glory
Posted by frankmeyer - Monday, December 03, 2007 2:07 PM
Welcome to Tokyo's 12th annual Robo-One Grand Championship match, where two-legged robots fight, throw balloons at each other, and even sing in a mission to become the world champ ‘bot.

Twenty-five finalist robots competed Saturday, showing off some of the latest moves originated by children, homemakers and other robot fans in the world's largest robo-market.

To win the tournament and the title of the world's strongest two-legged fighting robot, contestants need to be able to keep their balance while punching and dodging blows, and get up when pushed down.

And to kick off the action, a Christmas light-clad ‘bot named Arichyon sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" while a robot with a penguin head knocked it over with one punch.

Now, if that ain’t carrying on the spirit of the birth of the son of God, then I don’t know what will!

Death Race 2008: Pay Phones Go Bye Bye
Posted by frankmeyer - Monday, December 03, 2007 1:54 PM
Hey, anyone remember when there used to be payphone strewn across America, for people to dump coins into to make phone calls. This was before cell technology, of course, which has pretty much rendered the old fashioned phone booths obsolete.

Actually, scratch that. Not pretty much obsolete. Make that, totally obsolete.

Yup, AT&T says it will be completely out of the pay phone business by the end of 2008. In fact, there are about a million pay phones left in the country, down from a peak 2.6 million in 1998.

So what do you do if you’re in trouble, need help, and don’t have a cell available?

One word: DIE.

Return Of The Living Spice Girls
Posted by frankmeyer - Monday, December 03, 2007 12:23 PM

It must really be cold out this winter, because the Spice Girls kicked off their reunion tour yesterday and to my knowledge Hell hasn’t frozen over yet.

Yes, for the first time in nearly a decade Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell, Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton and Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown hit the road in a concert tour sure to…well, sure to excite someone somewhere.

At their debut reunion performance, the girls took the stage in gold and bronze outfits by Italian designer Roberto Cavalli and opened with their signature song, "Spice Up Your Life," followed by "Stop" and "Say You'll Be There."

Just hours before the show, Posh’s husband David Beckham gave each member of the group a special bracelet to mark their return on behalf on Victoria’s family.

Isn’t that sweet?

Then on behalf of the rest of us, he punched each one in the face to mark their return.

a great game but enough with the reviews

sonarus5995d ago

i agree enough with the reviews. Sony didnt market this game enough for it to be a system seller and i dnt think its the best game out wat kills it from attaining this goal is the length. I have to say best game for the month of nov has to go to mass effect.

eagle215995d ago (Edited 5995d ago )

And if u look at the hot new PS3 sales number vgchartz has posted EU week ending Dec. 1:Europe is ready for this 12/6! PS3 is selling like hotcakes! Can't wait for next week's numbers.

To the disagrees: You hate cause you know it's the truth. This game is a system seller. 4 of my friends are getting PS3's for this game. Go home and cry.

Relientk775995d ago

thats a pretty good review i guess ;)

awesome

hotshot1275995d ago

considering the last nine reviews havent been averaged

The Inconsistent Harmony: 5 Examples of Ludonarrative Dissonance in Video Games

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "I finally have a proper designation akin to what I've always referred to internally as 'the line that must be crossed' or 'The Line', for short – ludonarrative dissonance – the separation from a video game's story in relation to its gameplay. Why isn't PETA all up in Mario's grill for jumping on turtles and killing fish, or charging Samus Aran with the extinction of the Metroid species? Ever notice how fire has that habit of making bosses in Resident Evil stronger? Read on my friend, for I endeavor to imbue you with the ability to engage in basic queries concerning the concept."

UC 2, 4, 3 and 1. Great read and article

ABizzel11010d ago

No Golden Abyss -_-, otherwise I agree with the order.

UC2: Best overall
UC4: Best graphics, best gameplay, best locations, best environements
UC3: Best set pieces IMO (the boat and desert fights will always be amazing)
UC1: A rough Draft of what was to come
UCGA: Basically UC1 on Vita

Levii_921011d ago (Edited 1011d ago )

Great list and great article nicely writen and explained. Although for me personaly i would put Drakes Fortune above Drake’s Deception and Uncharted 4 is absolutely my favourite of the franchise and number 1 for me.

Inverno1011d ago

U2 is the only game playable on crushing without causing a great amount of frustration. Not to mention just how much influence it had that they redid some of U2s set pieces like the caravan twice, and armored truck chase in U4.

DFresh1011d ago (Edited 1011d ago )

I'd rate it as the following.

1.) Uncharted 2
(Close to perfection of any game I've played in years. Single Player/Multiplayer/Co Op all amazing.)

2.) Uncharted 3
(On par with UC2 multiplayer/co op wise minus the kickbacks [aka killstreaks]. I really liked the Lawrence of Arabia story.)

3.) Uncharted 4
(Single player is amazing. Multiplayer was meh. Co Op had potential. Absolutely hated the health revive system it slowed down the game way too much. Always preferred the fast pace action of UC2/UC3. Made it way more fun that way. Recoil was too ridiculous that most people in lobbies would only do hip firing, using power weapons and using that OP grappling hook to melee people after dropping them. Nobody wanted to revive anyone.)

4.) Uncharted
(It's the first in the series so it's hard to judge. Though I loved the story.)

NecrumOddBoy1010d ago

I agree here but it’s also a series you can play from front to back and truly enjoy. Story-wise, they are all great and flow so well. I wish they threw both Golden Abyss and Lost Legacy on this list. Lost Legacy is the best mechanically in my opinion. You can see it’s stepping stone framework for TLOUS2.

Michiel19891010d ago

uncharted 2 is one of the few games that actually surpassed its pre-release hype.

medman1010d ago (Edited 1010d ago )

I am a single player gamer...I barely ever touch a multiplayer component. The only exceptions over the years have been the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, TLOU factions, and the Uncharted 2 multiplayer. The Uncharted 2 multiplayer saw me spend more time playing it than all my other multiplayer experiences over the years combined. That game really was a masterpiece all around.

brando0081010d ago

I agree completely, those are all stellar MP experiences, coming from another SP gamer who only occasionally gives MP some time.

Gardenia1011d ago

Come to think of it, the step between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2 is huge. It goes from the weakest in the series to one of the best games ever made.
I think I'm going to play all of them again soon.

Ninver1010d ago

Yeah all of a sudden I've got that Uncharted itch.

Michiel19891010d ago

is multiplayer still up for the remastered trilogy? or did it never have UC2 mp?
