Skyrim Patch 1.2 Screws Everything Up

Skyrim is probably the best game I played this year in terms of [number_of bugs] / [hours played].

Yes, I had a single game breaking bug here and a single crash there - but that spread over 48 hours of playtime (and counting).

And the funny thing is, I've seen similar number of bugs in 5-10 hours linear games - so that says something. People tend to misunderstand the equation: a very lengthy game * many people playing = plenty of bug reports. You won't hear similar stories about a totally messed 5 hours game that nobody cared to play simply because there was nobody to complain about the bugs...

First and foremost, your game should be playable -- not somewhat playable.

Back to Oblivion - one of my favorite games this gen - Bethesda had bugs that freeze systems, slow the game down to a halt, or make missions unable to be completed.

It's getting old.

Games shouldn't be riddled with glitch after glitch, with new glitches introduced after patches to fix the old glitches.

"dragons flying backwards" now. Really?

Gamers have become QA for some devs. Yes, the game is massive and complex, but the dev's QA team should be granted the time, resources, and empowered to iron this stuff out.

I've come to expect patches soon after a game's release. And it's actually one reason I don't feel the need to rush to the store anymore to buy games Day 1.

But really, we're not talking about a mmorpg game here or a game console in need relatively frequent updates.

Just get it right already.

I haven't bought Skyrim yet since I know the free pass that reviewers give to all of Bethesdas bug-fest games (Fallout, Oblivion, etc) (Not to say that they aren't good games btw)

But now I see a really, really big contrast between "the second coming of jesus" hype before Skyrim's launch and the frustration afterwards.

I'm a little confused. Is it a good game? Will it win GOTY? Or maybe it's just one of those impressive-at-first and then not so much experiences? Should I buy it for Christmas? Honest answers please

I intentionally declined the update, knowing Bethesda's 15+ year track record of farking up patches. Glad I did. Now to wait for the patch to the patch.

It's not so bad, the patch had gotten me using health potions again and actually think about what shout to use vs spell casters, have not needed to heal myself for a while now until this patch.

The game crashes, Bethesda released a fail patch... trophies won't appear.... seriously I killed a dragon absorbed his soul... no trophy.

If you have the PC version, allow the game to use 4GB RAM. My game would crash up until i turned on the flag for it to use more of my RAM.Check the Skyrim Nexus for the mod to do it.

The game has problems don't deny that. I like Skyrim, but it is crap on the PS3, and this patch makes it virtually unplayable because whenever you enter a new area, the game freezes and you are forced to do a hard reset on the PS3.

And do you think Im joking about people who torrented the game are able to run it better than me... some one who bought it?

Im dead serious.. I know 50 people who play Skyrim... only 3 of them including me bought the game. One of them bought that $150 collectors edition of it too

I want to enjoy Skyrim, but Bethesda refuses to let me.

But alas, we are on N4G and no one makes a discussion as to why they disagree with me. They just push the button,and then silently fade into the shadows...

After installing the patch the game has worked really well for me. The game no longer becomes a diashow after playing for few minutes (if even that)

Also within 100 hours of play the game has not crashed more than 3-4 times for me (1 - enchanting name bug and about 3 times while entering new area)

Also the fact that it doesn't fix the broken quests doesn't make the patch any worse. They just decided to fix the more meaningful bugs first (like game becoming unplayable after save file hits 10mb+)

I'm playing on PC and the game simply crashes when the Skyrim logo appears on the screen

sorry for pepole who this effects, but my first playthrough im going all out imperial tank with little magic, my second playthrough i was planning on going as a dark elf mage. So the lack of resistance has little effect on me this time out, i assume they will get this fixed in time for my mage playthrough. So i guess im just happy they fixed the texture thing so i can load this on my hdd, the spining disc sound was really getting anoying.

ive got a ps3 & 360. Ive never heard my disc on the ps3 but you can on the 360. The best way to describe the volume is about what a laptop fan kicks on volume, its not super loud, but when the game is quiet it can get really anoying & kinda takes you out of the emersion

It will still affect you though as you'll still get annihilated by mages and dragons. If you want to avoid the problem play as a stealthy archer. I'm a level 46 Nord and being killed by one breath from a frost dragon is a little annoying. Considering that before this patch it barely did any damage.

i usualy dont make a fuss about bugs ive seen floating mammoths and whatnot and i usualy ignore them for the most part but a patch that makes a game worse is unacceptable.

as far as im concerned this bug dosent seem to be working on my copy cus i did use firebreath on a flame atronach and i did see the message at top corner saying that it is resistant to magic but i still have concerns with the new patch.

Got to the point where it was unplayable due to texture loading. The patch helped but I still have some hiccups here and there.

If you didn't experience any issues before the patch and running from the disc drive didn't bother you, just disconnect Xbox Live and wait until we know everything this new patch effects then update if you want or wait for another patch.

Well, technically you could have installed it the day you got it. the only real issue was some texture loading issues... I have been playing it off the HDD from day one and had a blast with it. Now..it will just get a bit better.

I just tested a lightning bolt on a storm atronach, and it took damage. For you that don't know it is immune to lightning. Xbox version after patch.

is anyone still having issues with your house? like when i go in and put stuff on the manikins i cant see them and the manikins disappear. sometimes the bookshelf and other furniture are all gone and all the food and other items are all over the floor.

The horrible lag is gone now on the ps3, but I my game has frozen a couple times still after 1.2.

I havent had any freeze issues since the new patch. I did experience once the missing furniture, which sucked cuz when I reloaded it was back but all my shit was on the floor. yea i have a house in honeyside where sometimes the mannequins are standing up in different locations in the house, and sometimes they are invisible with only their head and hands and feet visible. when i take off all their armor they stop glitching.

also the ghostblade wont mount in a weapon rack. they should modify whirlwind shout to stack on enchanted weapons and modify the damage levels of weapons and make daedric higher in damage and not equal to ebony and the limits on how many pieces of gear can have + 1 hand or +2hand weapon damage or such; because my daedric 1h axe does like almost 300 damage with armor enchanted to add +to 1 hand skills and +3 pieces that can have the same enchant is not fair.

the patch has crashed so many times since 4.0 firmware on ps3 that i dont know if its because of the firmware. before the firmware update 1.2 patch was fine and even enjoyable for like a day.

I played for 3 hrs after the patch no problems with my game. AS soon as I started after the patch I fought a Elder Dragon everything was normal. He was flying normal and I was able to absorb his soul. Then I went to a Dragon wall and learned the shout. All I have noticed after patch is it looks cleaner & sharper.

I still get a bit of lag everyone now and then on ps3, no difference in that department from pre patch to post patch. The extended play has been greatly improved though. I used to get an overwhelming amount of lag/frame rate drops over long periods of time which has now been cleared up.

On a side note, the game has been freezing on me quite a bit. Only happens when im going between areas and im sitting at the loading screen with all the smoke. Im not sure if that was an after effect of the patch or not. It never happened until after the patch, now its a regular occurnce of about 2 or 3 times per hour. I go to an area, the loading screen comes up with the smoke and nothing happens requiring a hard reset. Anyone else running into this issue on ps3?

The patch screwed up the Dragons and My follower, she kept getting stuck in the doorways during the load time in or out and I would have to go back in and get her, then she just disappeared with about 5 thousand pounds of loot.

Thanks Bethesda, the game was just fine before the patch.

After playing for about 3 hours or so on a straight play-through it lags just as bad before the patch and npc are worst than before. Npc don't even respond at times when i go talk to them if, I've been playing to long or they fall from the sky at times. Today i had a group of giants actually do nothing after hitting them, they just stood there like nothing was happening. I'm freezing more now than before the patch. Even when manual saving the game freezes for about 2 to 3 mins before finally the save selection pops up. Bethesda should feel ashamed for allowing a patch that makes things worst not better.

Man, the only people that are writing are people that have had issues. Which really isn't that many compared to how many on this site are playing it. I have personally encountered no real issues. I'm on PS3 and my save file is like 9+mb. I am really enjoying it.

I installed the patch (Xbox 360) right after it came out and immediately installed the game onto my hard drive. Put in about 8 hours of playtime. All textures seem more crisp and, obviously, with the game installed my load times are very much improved. I've killed 2 dragons since the patch, neither were flying backwards and both of them attacked me. One of them was a frost dragon and both my Nord resistance to frost and my Nightingale armor resistance to frost still worked, as his frost breath did very little damage to me. The only negative I've experienced are occasional framerate drops for a few seconds after fast traveling or entering a dungeon. Like 3 seconds. Not a big deal. I think these claims of a "broken game" are overblown.

By the comments posted it tends to be a PS3 problem in regards to lag.

Myself and friends have have played for a ridiculous amount of time but only mentioned things about textures which for me and countless others is now more or less fixed and most quests Ive undertaken are working as they should.

I will go even further we have 3 xboxes in our house and all 3 have their own game and none of us have had any of these glitches before or after the patch. My daughter in college has a xbox also no problems so 4 out of 4 in my household have been loving this game. I don't understand how this could be. I mean shouldn't all games / xboxes have the same problems? The 3 xboxes at my house are all the S model and my daughters is the elite so what is going on here?

How to go back to 1.1 update on Skyrim (X360)

For those of you who are experiencing gamebreakers, I would downgrade back to 1.1 until they 'patch' the patch. My game was fine until I updated...the second instructions using XTAF worked flawlessy for me.

Honestly, I don't know why everyones complaining so much. First, it's a Bethesda game so its Garunteed it's share of glitches on release. What did you expect? Second, I've seen alot of people comaining about Bethesda not addressing the issue but believe me they are. I couldn't even continue playing Fable 3 (Jasper Glitch) until 3 months after game release. Just know it could be worse, they could be LionHead studios and bail as soon as they get your 60 bones. Plus, it's november...There are so many other games to play

to all my fellow ps3 players out there, disable the autosave and save the game manually. my game would crash every time the autosave would start and corrupt my save, rendering the game unplayable. but i disabled the autosave and it has crashed maybe twice out of 20 hours.
