Destructoid Review: Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Destructoid - Ezio, Ezio, wherefore art thou Ezio? After the sprawling adventures of the young Italian in Assassin's Creed II and the slightly less grand adventure chasing the Borgias in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, we can finally say goodbye to the now grizzled and milked-for-all-his-worth Renaissance-era Adonis.

i cannot see a ac game getting less that a 8.5

P_Bomb4566d ago (Edited 4566d ago )

He justified it well enough though I think.

*No horses
*no new charachters as strong as Leonardo or Machiavelli
*Subject16 gets shortchanged
*new notoriety system/tower defense is a chore
*Buying landmarks earns you less money,no renovations
*new bomb gameplay is an afterthought
*Constantinople not as visually impressive as past locales
*tunnel transports are fewer and far between
*recycled NPC animations that show Italian hand gestures on Ottoman charachters
*cutscenes showing Ezio with items he doesn't have yet in gameplay
*laggy map button

Honestly it sounds like MP saved it from being lower for him. Guess that's the risk you run with yearly sequels.

Outside_ofthe_Box4566d ago (Edited 4566d ago )

.
Exactly.

Unless it's a sports game or CoD please don't make yearly sequels.

I personally never by games (apart from sports games) that release yearly. 2 years is minimum for me. Which is why I won't be picking this AC up.

HeavenlySnipes4566d ago

the first two an 8/10. I've yet to play Brotherhood so if these problems are fixed, then I guess AC actually improved.

- For a ASSASSIN GAME there is little to no stealth involved, the game is basically an open world hack and slash

- Combat is piss easy. Simply counterkill everything. Heck, sometimes I fight with my fists against 20 people, and just disarm kill them

- The formation of Ezio into an assassin doesn't make sense. Unless the game skips a large portion of training with his uncle where he learns how to properly use a sword, you wouldn't expect a regular guy to out perform trained guards with ease.

- Weapons don't make a difference. All you need to do against enemies that can't be counterkilled is mash attack on them until you do a fatal blow animation.

- Side missions (other than the catacombs) are boring. Fighting ONE cheating husband when you are able to fight off multiple armed guards is a bore.

- Ezio never really develops as a character. The overall main plot is well constructed, but the characters are poorly developed.

I agree with everything you just said.

Might be a first for me on n4g.

Its frustrating because the concept of the game is SO GOOD. The art design is usually SO GOOD, but the actual execution is a clunky hack n slash.

If they did a stealth game properly, this would have been an amazing frachise...now...its just one I look for in the bargain bin when I run out of games to play.

Trainz4566d ago (Edited 4566d ago )

What the heck 7.5!
I thought it would be AT LEAST an 8.5.

SeraphimBlade4566d ago

Hate to say it, but this is pretty much I was expecting. Three annual releases in a row? That's practically begging for a drop in quality no matter how much material you recycle.

nightmarex1214566d ago (Edited 4566d ago )

Didnt they give like assassin creed 2 a 4/10 or something like that before.

I think Ezio having 3 parts to his story hardly qualifies for "Milked for all his worth".

1) Young Ezio getting started story,
2) In his prime Ezio taking over the guild story,
3) Ageing Ezio well past his prime and entering the last years of his life story,

I don't really think that all the talk of milking it is really fair just yet, it's only been 3 games.

The first was good but had it's flaws, the second one improved dramatically on the first as it addressed most of the flaws, and ACB although not innovating the series still added some new things and added to the story and stayed relevant.

I do hope though that AC3 takes a big jump and really impresses or else the talk of milking will actually start to be more than just people complaining a bit unfairly.

Mind you I have yet to play the game.... I am basing my opinion more on the attitude some people had to Brotherhood.... maybe after playing ACR I will taste the lactose.... I don't think so though.... it seems that the game is a genuine attempt to complete the story while adding enough new things to keep it from feeling stale!

When will you decommission this new one? I’m only asking so I can be happier by not buying it at full price.

bunt-custardly621d ago

The dog Chorizo from FAR CRY 6 has wheelchair legs, so is hardly a decommissioned pet. In fact very useful for digging up dirt.

Historic Eras that Video Games Need to Explore

Xfire writes "Worldbuilding is a crucial part of any story. It's not an easy task to create a believable setting with its own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations and then weave a story into the said setting. Luckily, storytellers and video game writers don't always need to create complex settings when we've got history books as thick as Big Chungus.

Historical eras make a fabulous setting for video games. They've already got the world-building nailed, complete with their own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations. Honestly, I don't think I need to justify the fact that historical eras make an amazing setting for video games. If you don't believe me, just go ahead and play the Ghost of Tsushima or any of the Assassin's Creed games."

The first crusade would be pretty sweet. I’d probably enjoy any of those on your list if they were done respectfully. Like not some dork in Portland making a Russian Revolution game.

Benin Empire, Far East, Central America. Games are pretty biased toward Europe, North America, and the Middle East. There is a very big world out there.
