IGN: Assassin's Creed: Revelations Review

Assassin's Creed Revelations marks the end of two eras as it explores the final adventures of Ezio Auditore and Altair Ibn-La'Ahad. Ubisoft's ambitious conclusion to a four game narrative manages to be the best chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise despite suffering from some familiar problems. Witnessing Ezio and Altair come to grips with the lives they've lived is a remarkable sight, easily worth one more trip to a world we've experienced for several years.

but that's a downgrade from the scores typical of 2 and Brotherhood. Maybe Ubisoft should stop milking the franchise with spin-offs now and focus on a different time period and protagonist with installment number 3.

StraightPath4566d ago

Once a heavy seller be sure to know a company will milk that francise. Why? because there is demand and alot of people will buy Assasins Creed Revelations.

Prophet-Gamer4566d ago

Yet MW3 gets a 9 on its 8th iteration. Yea, not buying it and why'd they take points off for adding a new feature? Seriously, I get that it might not be perfect, but at least they're adding more variety unlike CoD which just a skin change.

Ubisoft needs to take their time developing AC3 and a new setting wouldn't be a bad idea

What I want to know is how they can give this an 8.5 for effectively being the same game as its predecessors, yet gave MW3, which is a virtual, and perhaps inferior, carbon copy of MW2, a 9.0...

Why do some series that keep offering more of the same get penalized, while others do not?

Not saying I disagree with the score. I do disagree with IGN's inconsistency. Perhaps they should have multiple reviewers on each title to offset this.

Well, this one is very bold in saying we won't see Altair and Ezio anymore. They are gonna move on and we can only guess where they're going after.

And after reading that, it sounds perfect for me. Some might be disappointed by it being so similar to the others but I loved the others. And I think I'll love this. Especially since it's so story heavy.

"Ubisoft's ambitious conclusion to a four game narrative manages to be the best chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise despite suffering from some familiar problems."

"Ubisoft's overall storytelling has reached new heights."

"That leap alone helps elevate Revelations above some of its predecessors. The game's visuals have likewise taken a step up, with characters and their expressions looking better than ever. Voice acting is fantastic and the soundtrack is incredibly solid. All of these improvements, combined with a franchise-best city design, add to the larger narrative experience of the game."

"This is the best Assassin's Creed yet, even if that victory is claimed by an inch and not a mile. If you've been following the lives of Altair and Ezio this long, you owe it to yourself to see their last adventure."

Brotherhood received an 8 and ACII received a 9.2, yet this is an 8.5 and is the best in the series. *EDIT* Found the reviewers are in fact different.

Regardless, I think an 8.5 is a great score. Also, regardless of score, I would still get this game because I love the franchise.

I'll be getting this tonight, but I have to work in the morning, so I probably won't get much time with it tonight.

FUU ! Every Assassin's creed is a good 10/10

mandf4566d ago

Yeah I agree. There all have their quirks and problems but the story for me overrides all of that. The sense of immersion just nails it for me. Some will like, some will hate, and some will think it's average but to me their all tens.

Lucreto4566d ago (Edited 4566d ago )

Good enough review. I like more of the same. Some games don't need to be drastically different from each game. I love Ratchet but its the same thing every time as well.

I just got a dispatch notice for the game but its a Christmas present so I will have to wait until then to play it.

When will you decommission this new one? I’m only asking so I can be happier by not buying it at full price.

The dog Chorizo from FAR CRY 6 has wheelchair legs, so is hardly a decommissioned pet. In fact very useful for digging up dirt.

Historic Eras that Video Games Need to Explore

Xfire writes "Worldbuilding is a crucial part of any story. It's not an easy task to create a believable setting with its own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations and then weave a story into the said setting. Luckily, storytellers and video game writers don't always need to create complex settings when we've got history books as thick as Big Chungus.

Historical eras make a fabulous setting for video games. They've already got the world-building nailed, complete with their own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations. Honestly, I don't think I need to justify the fact that historical eras make an amazing setting for video games. If you don't believe me, just go ahead and play the Ghost of Tsushima or any of the Assassin's Creed games."

The first crusade would be pretty sweet. I’d probably enjoy any of those on your list if they were done respectfully. Like not some dork in Portland making a Russian Revolution game.

Benin Empire, Far East, Central America. Games are pretty biased toward Europe, North America, and the Middle East. There is a very big world out there.
