Bethesda Leaves A 'Minecraft' Easter Egg In 'Skyrim'

Geekology: Prior to the release of Skyrim, Bethesda Software generated some buzz by filing a lawsuit against the creator of Minecraft, Markus "Notch" Persson. Basically, Notch was making a game called Scrolls and wanted to file for a copyright on the name, which made Bethesda worried that he might make a copyright claim against their flagship Elder Scrolls series.

So Bethesda filed a pre-emptive copyright claim against the new game. Notch, being a mere game programmer and not a digital copyright mastermind, offered to play against Bethesda in a game of Quake 3 rather than go to court, to which Bethesda declined.

fake.... you can make any name for the weapons/armors when you enchant them and when you enchant them the price will go up and you see it cost now about 303! coins.... it normaly cost about 10 or less

Drake1174549d ago

Not fake i found it on top of the throat of the world.

Christopher4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

Not fake, but nothing to do with Minecraft. Notched weapons and utensils have been in The Elder Scrolls since... at least the fourth one.

RedDead4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

It probably is, why a 'notched pickaxe' is just sticking out of the throat of the world, he only times Bethesda do crap like that is a reference to something else, however small.

I mean "Some NPC's in the game comment "Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll." or something along those lines, this is a clear reference to Fallout 3 where the bully at your birthday party demands you hand over your sweetroll that was given to you as a gift. The Fallout event is, in turn, a reference to the character creation process in the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, wherein the player character is asked how they would react to a bully stealing their sweetroll in order to determine the player's class. The stolen sweetroll is thus a long-running Bethesda joke. It can also be found when creating your character in "Daggerfall", the second Elders Scrolls game Bethesda released. "

There's shi* like this in it, there's been a Luke skywalker hanging upside down reference twice now, one in Skyrim one in MW. Cept it's a skelaton reaching for his sword on the ground.

Although I agree, this is no article, if they wanted they could do a larger one with more Easter eggs but this is shi* and it's potentially not even one.

spicelicka4550d ago

this is stupid, there are so many axes in the damn game and you can change the name as mentioned in the ^above post^ so unless they confirm it themselves, this is retarded.

hotskys4550d ago

^LOL It's not fake. It's on the throat of the world. I have it. but nice try

IaMs124550d ago

Haha okay it maybe called a Notched Axe but come on i doubt it because of Minecraft. There are many games with Notched axes name.

thrasherv34550d ago

"There are many games with Notched axes name."

Like?

Heartnet4550d ago

Just google Notched Axe.. games do come up :)

radphil4550d ago

WoW, Allods Online, Neverwinter Nights, Hunted, and many other games.

jrbeerman114550d ago

burn lol

two comments on the site say that oblivion had the notched axe as well. Which came out before Minecraft so this is a non story.

Dac2u4550d ago

Google Notched Pickaxe, which is the name of the item and see what you come up with. Other than this easter egg, there's nothing. The fact that it can be found sticking out of the side of the mountain next to a bunch of ore is another clue that it was put there on purpose.

Haha, I'm sorry to say but the notched pickaxe was in Oblivion. Or at least "notched" weapons as far as I can remembe. However, 'notched" has nothing to do with Minecraft.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast22d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22922d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko22d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
