From the Review:
"The phenomenon that is the exercise game genre cannot be ignored. People purchase these games and enter into contracts with themselves for self improvement; one of the big deciding factors of whether or not people stick to their program relies on the practicality of the game. At FanExpo the Greedy Productions folks addressed these types of games, with Shaun Hatton raising the most important point: the reward from exercise games is proportional to what effort you put in.
Does this formula work for fitness games that involve more than just exercise? Games like The Fight: Lights Out and Fighters Uncaged are fighting games that have the added bonus of having some fitness elements - but are these games really going to teach you anything practical outside of the exercise? Ubisoft’s latest offering, Self Defense Training Camp, looks to buck the trend with a very comprehensive approach to self defense."
Self-Defense Training Camp for Kinect transforms your living room into a personal dojo. The “game” trains you in four techniques (Self Defense, Reflexes, Balance, and Cardio), with the aim of teaching you how to properly handle yourself in the event of an attack.
VGR:Picture yourself walking down a dark, grimy city alley late at night all by yourself when a bad guy steps out of the shadows, grabs you from behind and demands all of your money! What’s the first thing you think of? I know…”Boy, I sure am glad I had a chance to play and train with Self-Defense Training Camp for Kinect!” Judo chop to the neck, straight kick to the balls and you’re out of harms way in no time at all!
GameZone's Tate Steinlage reviews Self-Defense Training Camp, "If you've been aiming to learn self-defense, Ubisoft and your Kinect is here to save the day...kind of.."
I still have a lot of fun with the good kinect games but man there are a lot of bad ones.
