Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand - XG 24/7 Interview

@XG247: More from the world of Battlefield 3. We speak to Patrick Bach about the upcoming Back to Karkand Expansion.

Majin-vegeta4569d ago

This expansion pack sounds more like a PSN/XBLA game with all the stuff were getting new camos, new vehicles, new weapons etc.Which i wouldn't mind pay $15 for it.But best it's free with the LE edition of BF3:D.

Thrungus4569d ago

I really want to know what is going on with Wake Island. I'm slightly getting worried :(

But but but i heard people say that game devs weren't happy about the updated consoles on Twitter.
Somebody lied! >:(

Overload2856d ago (Edited 2856d ago )

Not all will. This one does.

They public will feel the same way.

Eonjay2855d ago

Which way is that? It sounds like you are saying that enthusiasm will be subjective... and I think that obvious.

_-EDMIX-_2856d ago

Not all well but clearly this is different because they're owned by EA they're going to be giving lots of money to work on multiple setups so it's not a big issue to them but smaller developers will have an issue with this because they probably already have a harder time getting games on two consoles let alone now having to factor in 2 other versions.

BossBattle2856d ago

I don't buy indies, so I rather give the big devs the tools to make their games even better.

ULTp0ltergeist2855d ago

They have nothing to complain about, they'll still have a strong base in the standard consoles and PC. So they'll be fine, I'm just confused why are they upset unless the manufactures are charging them extra?

2856d ago
FPS_D3TH2855d ago

Lol then you should probably quit reading Gamingbolt articles.. Porting a game to two extra consoles is still easier to do than creating a game with all the various types of PC graphic cards and specs.

Mostafeto2856d ago

To be honest, I want to see what will happen when they ACTUALLY launch, because I am sure there will be kind of a split in the community between normal PS4 and Neo and on the other side Xbox One and Scorpio

YinYangGaming2856d ago

It'll probably be the same as all DICE games this gen 900p on PS4 and 720p on Xbox One, I expect the Neo/Scorpio versions will reach 1080p/1440p or 4k

Aenea2856d ago

I've read that upscaling 1440p to 4k doesn't give all that much of an improvement over 1080p.

According to the leaked Neo documents some devs have had success with bigger resolutions than 1440p on the Neo like 3520x1980 and then upscaling it to 4k.

So if the Neo can comfortably do that with Frostbite engine games, 1980p and the specs are indeed what we've heard (and read in same document) then the Scorpio might use the bit of extra oompf to reach native 2160p (4k).

So we will probably see this in the future:
X1 720p
PS4 900p
PS4 Neo 1980p on 4k screens, 1080p on HDTV
X1 Scorpio 2160p on 4k screens, 1080p on HDTV

RegorL2856d ago

Reading the leaked Sony documents suggest Neo could render for one resolution in future.

Scaling up when connected to 4k screen,
scaling down connected to 1080p (i.e. great anti aliasing)

Alexious2856d ago

@Aenea - Yes, but it'll still be at medium graphics settings when compared to PC. Not even the Xbox One Scorpio will be able to handle High/Ultra settings at 4K, that requires even more TFLOPs (and a stronger CPU than consoles have).

gangsta_red2856d ago

One thing for sure you will definitely see less activity in those Digital Foundry articles.

Aenea2856d ago

I'm sure we will see as much activity but now by different people 😀

_-EDMIX-_2856d ago

Lol what? On the contrary you'll see more of them because they have more versions to show you comparisons to will they not?

Christopher2855d ago

Not likely. They were just as active last generation. Just there will be another role reversal and old blood will make a new return.

_-EDMIX-_2856d ago

I'm not sure what split you're really talking about if you consider it's not as if we've never had slim versions or Elite versions or Pro or core or whatever.

You won't know the version your buddy is playing on another system any more than they'll know the version you are playing

KaiPow2856d ago

If Neo is rumoured for an October release, wouldn't Battlefield 1 have to support a Neo version at launch?

Alexious2856d ago

Neo won't release in October, not a chance. That rumor was fake

Aenea2856d ago

My bet is on early or mid November... They will announce during Paris Games Week, then they have plenty games to show off that have a Neo mode included...

TheCommentator2856d ago

Whenever Neo releases, I remember Sony saying that any games releasing in October or beyond needed to support Neo. KaiPow is correct to assume that BF1 will support Neo.

AngelicIceDiamond2856d ago

When are we gonna here about the NEO? Feels like media and journalist's are somewhat shying away from it. Sony's not saying a single word about it. I agree with Alexious there's no way NEO's releasing this year and I doubt Sony will do a soft release for it.

krypt19832856d ago

Bf1 will definitely support neo out of the gate dice and the frostbite engine are completely scalable and will run just fine ...

RegorL2856d ago

BF4 was a launch game for PS4, they have done this before...

It makes sense to release a game with from the developer with the most engine experience first.

seanpitt232856d ago

Yeah neo is coming out next year no chance Sony will put two expensive hardware products in the market at the same time that would be crazy.

Frisky2856d ago

All these "developers are excited" fuss. I remember reading stuff like this prior to PS4 and Xbox One release as well. We know what happened both came out.

rainslacker2856d ago

New hardware is generally exciting to deal with, because people that make games are tech people that like dealing with some new things...for the most part. How he'll feel once he "gets his hands on them" may change depending on the work required to crank it up, and what he'll be allowed to do given the forward compatibility requirements.

As someone who works with this hardware, I'm excited for getting my hands on it too. As of right now, I can't say how I'd feel about developing for multiple platforms for a singular release.

Alexious2856d ago

From what many developers said, it should be really easy for those accustomed to the nightmare of PC configurations. There'll only be two different performance profiles for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One..

rainslacker2856d ago (Edited 2856d ago )

They're scalable. Beyond that, new hardware brings it's own new considerations for what can and can not be done. Just saying that being excited may not end up all rosy in the end when it comes to the actual work involved, not implying that it will a nightmare when they know what those considerations will end up being. It's more that what new things it bring may not be worth it if there are more negative aspects they have to deal with which make it less than worth it.
