As part of an in-depth report debuting on Gamasutra today, the creators of the Final Fantasy XI series have been discussing both their next MMO and reaction to the worldwide success of World Of Warcraft, hinting at things to come.
Gamasutra: Do you eventually plan on a whole new Final Fantasy MMO? Or is it going to be eternally XI, the magic online number?
Square Enix: As you might already know, members from the current FFXI team are working on a next generation MMO, but it still hasn't been decided whether that's going to be a game in the FF series, a continuation, or a totally new game. We are working on it, but it hasn't been decided that far yet.
Nearly seven years after her initial appearance in 2007′s Wings of the Goddess expansion pack storyline, Cait Sith will soon be added to Final Fantasy XI as an avatar. She will be the first avatar added to the game since the addition of Treasures of Aht Urhgan‘s Odin and Alexander in 2010.
An artist by the name of Tweex has announced the release of a remix album featuring the music from Final Fantasy XI called "The Land of Vana'diel". The album is said to have 18 songs that have been remixed in the style of cinematic orchestral music and will be free to download on August 1, 2012.
This looks absolutely AMAZING. I love Final Fantasy XI and even though I don't have enough time to play it, this album will let me relieve the nostalgia I have for it. I can't wait for August 1st!
Square Enix Ltd. today announces Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection- Abyssea Edition, a complete package of all Final Fantasy XI content released to date, is now available for download for Windows from Steam, Nexway and Metaboli.
Still rolling on FF XI? Quite an odd decision, looks like square enix knows what FF XV ended up being...
I'd love to see them take FF online into one of the futuristic FF worlds. Also I remember the concept video of FFXI when it was just called Final Fantasy Online for PlayOnline and it looked damn cool, I hope they realize the ambitions from that in the next game. I've been tempted to install FFXI on my PS3 but I already have the PC version.
I am looking foward to next gen MMO from them. Hopefully they take ideas of action form versus because battle system got repetitive after some time.
If they make a continuation of FFXI, it will ruin them IMO. I have played Final Fantasy XI for 3 years and as I agree it is a wonderful game (or I wouldn't have played it for 3 years "hehe") if there was a continuation of it it wouldn't be that great or they would have to change it too much.
The changes and gimps they are bringing to it now aren't (awesome) but I can live. However, a new Final Fantasy game online would be terrific! Square needs to bring back some of the old style of RPG as well. Random battles created Final Fantasy and they should stick with it!
Yea I played FFXI online for about 2 years now. Im giving it a break for this winter being with all the new game releases. I dont have much time to look for a pt and skill up with them and play the new released games.
That would be cool to see a new MMO from SQUARE but on the othere hand all my work on there current MMO would feel like it went down the drain lol...
I've spent 2 and a half years of my life addicted to the crack cocaine that is FFXI. I have been off of FFXI (crack cocaine) for 2 years now. I will never touch it again =P
