PC gamers be advised; L.A. Noire PC is locked at 30fps

DSOGaming writes: "Okay, this is ridiculous. We’ve been waiting patiently for Rockstar’s adventure game, L.A. Noire, and although the game is finally out in North America, we found out that an awful limitation has been introduced to its game engine. Like some other console ports, L.A. Noire PC is locked at 30fps. Oh yeah, this atrocious feature that PC gamers hated on games like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Overlord 2 is back."

Wat did you expect from a console port? Sunshine and rainbows? It's because of this crap that people pirate games. Be honest, would you by a half-assed product at $60 a pop? I only buy quality products. Anyway, expect hacks for this problem and the ICEnhancer(since this game uses the same engine as GTA 4).

meetajhu4573d ago (Edited 4573d ago )

Let me explain this. You can run at 60fps but their will be a huge problem with their facial animation system as it was captured at 30fps. That is the reason, not because its console port. And they can't call back the actors again and start over at 60fps facial recording just for PC.

Yi-Long4573d ago

... I might have cared, but for a game like LA Noire it honestly doesn't matter much if it's 30FPS.

Not to me, anyway.

Messatsu2904573d ago

Yea, you just explained what TurboGamer said. It was captured at 30fps because the game was for consoles not pc.

awi59514573d ago

I say thats a lie rockstar is awful at pc ports GTA 4 was a huge mess on pc. Games like deadspace 2 are locked at 30fps also. Console points just suck sometimes.

steve30x4573d ago

It looks much better than GTA 4 though.

Motorola4573d ago

This isnt 60 dollars on PC though smartass.

However, it's otherwise a fine port, with loads of customisation options and seamless switching between mouse & keyboard and a pad. So stop whinging. There's no discernable difference between 30fps and 60fps in a game like L.A. Noire.

JonahNL4573d ago

I've reviewed L.A. Noire on PC and I've had NO issues at all with the 30 fps lock. The game runs and plays smooth as butter. Running, aiming and shooting works just fine. Don't be an asshat when it comes to framerates. Some games don't require 60(+) frames per second.

papashango4573d ago (Edited 4573d ago )

Well some people can see the difference between 30 and 60 like black and white. Some people cant. you are seriously going to think im a snob but I sold my ps3 and stopped playing 360 because low fps pisses me off. Sorry but 30 fps is just too low for me. Im not even boing to torrent it.

Btw my setup caps at 120fps and its the smoothest most fluid experience you can get. 30 fps becomes almost unplayable when you get used to 120

john24573d ago

True.dat. Once you get above 50-60fps, you simply can't go back to 30fps

Sprudling4573d ago

While it's true some games don't require 60 fps for optimal gameplay (and I agree that L.A. Noire is one of them), it's still very disappointing that a PC game is locked at such a low fps.

However, saying 30 fps is smooth says something about your perception.

JonahNL4573d ago

I can even distinguish 90 frames per second from 60 frames per second. I'm just saying that the game runs smooth at 30 fps, in contrast to a lot of games.

Sprudling4573d ago

So what are you really saying? Are you saying 30 fps can be both smooth and not smooth to your eyes depending on the game? If so, can you explain why that is?

JonahNL4573d ago (Edited 4573d ago )

That's indeed what I'm saying here. An experienced gamer can always tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps, but for some reason, I can't really explain it, some games look and feel just fine at 30 fps.

Crysis is a good example of this. At 30 fps that game still looks smooth and it even plays smooth. Now take Call of Duty 4 and play it at the same framerate. It seems to stutter more and it's barely playable.

I'm guessing it's engine related and how well the game has been optimized to be played at lower framerates. Most RTS games are playable at 20 fps, whilst most shooters aren't perfectly playable below 60 fps.

JsonHenry4573d ago

Nothing is set in stone on the PC people. Just google for a custom .cfg file that unlocks the 30fps limit.

AKS4573d ago (Edited 4573d ago )

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as soon as I read about this. As long as one can change it that way, there's nothing for me to be concerned about.

do the facial animations look ok?

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor41d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut8541d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius40d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius40d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor40d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

One I never finished. I've been looking at the ps4 version off Amazon the last few months just never bit

Knightofelemia145d ago

It's worth playing LA Noire is one of my favorite Rockstar games. But I would also check out pawnshops or thrift stores if you want the game dirt cheap. Someone may have been dumb enough to dump the game.

andy85146d ago

Baffles me when people have these opinions about acclaimed games 😂

RhinoGamer88146d ago

100% agree... not perfect, but an engaging/refreshing experience.

sagapo146d ago

Agree, at time of release those facial expressions were amazing! They still hold strong even today imo.
The game on its own was good. Something fresh, but sidequests were a bit meh after a while.

Nacho_Z146d ago

I picked it up on sale recently, going to play it next summer. I'll get more out of it this time, first time around I treated the open world like it was GTA and goofed about, whereas now I'll play it with more respect. RDR2 has trained me well.

I also hadn't read Raymond Chandler at the time so presumably that'll add another layer of enjoyment too.

1nsomniac146d ago (Edited 146d ago )

Absolutely stunning game. So underrated. Played through it again last year and it still stands up so well. Like many of rockstars games it’s actually a far better experience on PC. I didn’t enjoy it as much on console. Completed it at least 3 times on pc.

The rumours of a sequel are awesome news despite the fact I think Rockstar are now the shell of the company they once were.

SyntheticForm146d ago

Team Bondi made a hell of a game.
