The strength and flaw of combat in console The Legend of Zelda titles lies in its ease. Because combat is not particularly challenging or demanding, it is accessible to a wide range of players, regardless of skill level. At the same time, this means that only a very basic grasp of combat is required to complete the games: players seeking a serious challenge would need to look elsewhere. It didn't matter that Twilight Princess, the previous entry in the series, was the most combat-rich Zelda title when you could complete the game by spamming basic combos and jump attacks. Skyward Sword, the newest iteration of the Zelda series, is the first 3D title to significantly improve on the gameplay formula established in Ocarina of Time. Combat, which will be the focus of this article, makes full use of the Wii's motion controls and brings a level of precision and immersion to fighting that previous titles seldom had.
