Ali Behjou of Brash Games writes "Cars 2 for the PSP is, unsurprisingly, a racing game with different modes, weapons and multiplayer. On the surface this all sounds pretty good and normal, but, while there are some important differences compared to other racing games, these features are also the ones that may divide opinion".
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "There are few brands out there that have anything like the appeal and recognition of Disney. Thanks to decades of beautiful and critically acclaimed animated films, the company is a household name that has expanded beyond just movies to include a variety of other ventures, including videogames. Disney has also grown its lineup considerably in recent years by acquiring Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars (although for the purposes of this article, I’ll only be covering Disney/Pixar output).
Thanks to their broad audience, Disney games usually show up on every viable platform out there, meaning that despite the brand’s affinity with Nintendo’s younger-skewing audience, both the PSP and Vita received a number of titles throughout their lives. Some of this was through Disney's own developer/publisher (Disney Interactive Studios), but the firm also licensed out its IPs for other companies to try their hand at – with somewhat mixed results."
Disney/Pixar Cars 2 is inspired by the motion-picture of the same name, offering fans the opportunity to play as some of their favourite characters. The storyline of the videogames is intended to continue from that of the film, however the core mode in Disney/Pixar Cars 2 on PSP is so lightweight that it’s unlikely that many players will Electronic Theatre Imagedraw any such context from the videogame: much of the plot is delivered as text during the loading sequences for the C.H.R.O.M.E. Missions gameplay mode.
Triverse writes, "Leading your chosen Cars 2 character through perilous training missions within the secret facility known as CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage), players will be constantlybombarded with onscreen action. This preview was limited to one gameplay mode (Free Play) with one track, (Ginza Sprint)."
