The company said that despite positive player feedback and a large number of players in the free play zone, it has not been possible to convert those players to paying subscribers. The game will be closed on January 31, 2012. Could the same happen to DC Universe Online?
Often it is asked why Lego hasn’t done Minecraft. After all, the formula fits. You put blocks on to other blocks to create something blocky and wonderful, fresh from your imagination. Surely that just screams Lego.

Developed by The Lego Group, the app takes the form of an interactive comic book, complete with mini-games and virtual Lego build kits to be unlocked. The Antimatter Missions is broken up into five parts, with five short comics making up the bulk of the title.
Funcom Lead Designer Oscar López Lacalle previews the new MMO LEGO Minifigures Online and discusses The LEGO Movie in this exclusive interview from GDC 2014.

Edit: Mistake
"Could the same happen to DC Universe Online? "
The article never mentions DC Universe, lol. Anyway, it's to be expected. It's too core of a franchise to expect customers to continuously pay for it.
Why must every company try to chase the MMO dollars. Not everyone can make a game like WoW. In fact there has not been a game like it since it's release. Only everquest (which pre-dated WoW).
I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen to the new Star Wars MMO. They should just have made it a single player game and it would have made bank. Instead they wanted to chase the MMO money.
We will see.
