NEVER PLAYED THOSE OPEN WORLD GAMES so i would not know if sales or age warrant them as classic.

Out of the 3 , only one is open world you know ... so basically you are BSing your way about games you dont even know .

My gut reaction was to brush this article off as one designed to simply create controversy, or at least, the author can only appreciate a game if it has guns and no exploration. However, to be more fair, one aspect I did like was the point that nostalgia can mask imperfections and raise the status of a past experience beyond what it truly was. I wish more time had been given to utilizing this aspect to craft a compelling argument or critique instead of the article devolving into an opinion piece. I would have liked to see a fleshed out view from the eyes of someone who had never played these titles before. Instead, it left me with a feeling of someone who can't appreciate exploration of a fantasy world, since the 3 titles the author dismissed were similar to each other, and far different from the other two which, while still excellent, are more in line with today's mainstream titles.
Agree. Play Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid today. Those games are difficult to control and work around the technical layouts.
MGS controls fine, and this coming from someone who grew up on PS2, 360 and did light early childhood gaming on N64 that finely played MGS about 2 years ago and it is now it is one of my fav games of all time. However RE2 was a pain when I tryed it, it took me about 30 minutes and 20+ deaths just to get past the starting area.
Practice makes it all better, games today have "technical layouts" as well but since also most games are less demaning in difficulty nowadays (game overs are mostly gone by now) people tend to forget those problems.
Got to say @Warj nailed it on the head. The point you raised about nostalgia masking imperfections is something I found and touched on in the article but I definitely feel a whole article dedicated to this subject is a grand idea. Perhaps a follow up piece is in order.
For the record, I don't dislike ICO, SOTC or OOT at all. They are 3 brilliant games and I immensely enjoyed playing all 3. My issue was that they are being held in the same regard as others, when they are (IMO) undeserving.
An interesting caveat on the whole "technical layout" in modern games debate. Modern games no doubt control and look better, does that automatically mean they are by default better games than some of our most beloved classics? And if not, why?

Ico hd and liberty city stories? Two games I've never had the pleasure of playing all the way through. Fantastic month IMO. The people that complain the most usually expect too much/buy too many games anyway.

horrible month...come on, I know some people dont like it, but EU gets AC3!! do any of these games really match the worth of that game? absolutely not...at least give us ICO AND shadow of the colossus..id rather just go buy the HD collection together
Same here great month I never played ICO but always wanted to had GTA for my psp got rid of it when I got ps vita loved that game and Rayman will be a good throw back game to play and the vita is best platform to play it on.
ICO is a 4/5 not that its not a great game but the hd remake is about the same as ps2 by taht i mean its a old game so don't expect next gen graphics
sotc on the other hand has great graphics and the combat feels even better with much much better frame rate
must have collection for gamers who enjoy a bit serious games. also if any developer deserves our money its team ICO and their love for unique games
I still have to finish this collection. I had to put it in the backseat once arkham city came out. Now uncharted 3 today, skyrim next week...I don't think I'll get back to this till next year.
