Wii U to finally support 4 touchpads ?

LiveWii writes : "You may have heard about that Sonic Dimensions rumor. But the main fact of this news was the information about the Upads of the console and that Nintendo finally found a way to support 4 of them at the same time".

i think that it was actually the comment made about the system only shipping with one controller got misinterpreted as the system only supporting one controller?

Misterhbk4581d ago (Edited 4581d ago )

No, multiple people from Nintendo were quoted saying the console would only support one of the controllers.

EDIT; here's one such link

technically it is possible for the Wii U to support multiple Wii U Controllers those were iwata's words. not that im worried one controller will do for me lol

Misterhbk4581d ago

Yes it is true but is it cost effective for them to even produce that many controllers? I promise you those tablet controllers are not cheap and Nintendo doesn't like to sell anything at a loss. If the extra controllers were priced high they'd sit on store shelves and Nintendo would lose money.

Think about it like this, current controllers retail for about $50. Add in all the tech of the Wii U controller and how much more do you think its going to cost? Definitely not cheap

If there is a brain in a single Nintendo CEO, even if produces a rattle when you shake their noggin, the final version of the Wii U will support multiple Wii U controllers.

If not, then I contend that they came up with the Wii by throwing darts at an 'idea dartboard' and got extremely lucky.

@ Misterhbk

My real question is how much the development of these tablet controllers is going to impair the horsepower of the system. I am afraid it is going to be like the wii in that half way through the generation it will start to lose support because it is behind pc games and wont see ports or entice 3rd party devs. They'll either have to raise the price or gimp something, and it'll be interesting to see which it is and what happens.

Even if it supported 4 controllers it would be stupidly expensive! Those controllers cannot be cheap.

kneon4581d ago

Low end 7 inch android tablets can be had for as little as $99, this controller should be cheaper to make than those as I doubt it has the same kind of compute power. The Wii U controller has more buttons but it's missing others hardware typically found in a tablet.

So I can see the Wii U controller priced around the $100 point or less. Not all that much more than a Wiimote+motionplus+nunchuck.

Supporting only one of these controllers is just a non-starter for families with more than one kid, unless you enjoy giving them yet one more thing to argue about :)

i would like it to support multiple controllers
I'm already picturing another smash brothers and been able to pick different specials from the controller touch screen itself

Supporting more controllers is great...except how much are these things going to cost. I find controllers at the minute quite expensive.

Pikajew4581d ago (Edited 4581d ago )

It doesn't need more than 2. And the Wii U supports all Wii controllers. And they will probably make a gamecube controller for the Wii U

I dont care how many Wii U pads it supports

axisofweevils4580d ago

You could probably use the Classic Controller Pro with no problems.

MasterCornholio4581d ago (Edited 4581d ago )

That's good news. But what worries me is that the controllers will be very expensive. I can't imagine them selling them at the same price point ad regular controllers. I predict that they will cost around 80 euros a controller maybe less if Nintendo sells them at a loss.

Anyways what Nintendo should do is produce a core controller for the console. Because some people won't like the quirky controller with the screen.

If this is true then it's looking better and better. I'm looking for a MUCH better unveiling of the Wii U at E3 in 2012. It's obvious Nintendo jumped the gun a bit at this past E3. I'm really looking forward to seeing the console itself and hearing about launch games and more.

I'm tempted just because I missed out on xenoblade chronicles x. But it's a big waste for just one game

Sgt_Slaughter470d ago

It's also a great system for backwards compatibility and emulation too, especially with the off TV play through the tablet.

I bought a Wii-U last year due to the fact that the Wii Punch-Out for some reason has not been ported to the Switch, which is odd since almost all of the Punch-Out games, arcade included are available for the Switch.

Prefer the wii/GameCube combo console myself.

The Wii U was an abject failure, but sometimes even failures are worthwhile (if still expensive) learning experiences.

Yet they all turned out to be great systems with lots of gems, except for Jaguar. Wii U was a criminally underrated system. The Gamepad implementation of Zelda Twilight Princess was incredible! I was so disappointed they removed it altogether for Breath of the Wild because they wanted "parity" with the Switch version. Its a shame and it was a lame excuse.

You can tell BotW was designed around the gamepad usage, with all that menu navigation. That item management and weapon switching would have been 100x better with the gamepad. The worst part was they never let the wii U players know they were removing it! I got the game for Wii U at launch and was disappointed it wasnt there.

PS3 was a mess at first but what a turnaround! That was a crazy generation. Uncharted 1,2,3, Infamous 1 & 2, God of War 3, Last of Us, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank series, Little Big Planet, Modnation Racers, Killzone, Resistance. My god they were so on point later in that generation it was crazy!

Nintendo Screwed themselves using the Wii name again. And the jaguar was straight doo doo; I still have it.

I had it too... Jag could have been something great considering how good the ST games were. And now many of those have been ported but it was too little too late. The CD was just plain unreliable (apart from being an obvious design flaw). The thing about the Jag was it was just too Euro. given that Atari was built initially a US brand and then it later became more European and you could tell from the games. There is just something that stands out with EU created games vs NA or JP ones. Alien vs Predator was cool but def needed a better frame rate. At least 30fps instead of the 15-20 it was.

Im actually surprised nobody has gone back and tried to remaster that one for other platforms. It was a pretty good game.

Surprised vita didn’t get a mention in the article.

PS3 had a buggered up launch but Sony was able to turn things around with the PS3. I still say the XB360 had a terrible launch half the systems cooked themselves and the RROD would appear. Then the 3DO, CDI, Pippin, the Amiga, 32X the list can go on and on with systems with terrible launches.
