Video Review: FIA WRC 2 - Game-Smack Ireland

Codemasters’ DiRT series has simply taking over the rally space in recent years. Blending the classic rally feel but with the American spectacle and crisp visuals, nothing could touch the series. But with its over-emphasis on the American style and non-rally events like gymkhana, rally fans have been increasingly disappointed in the direction of the series. Now, thanks to Black Bean, the World Rally Championship is back to bring the authenticity of the sport to current gen of consoles. Does this game take the game to the next stage, or does it just slide into a ditch.

modern rally games are very bad made. I would love to buy/play proper sim-rally game!

Played with a decent force feedback wheel (I have a Logitech G25), WRC2 - heavily flawed as it is in several areas - easily beats Dirt 2 and 3 combined as a rally game.
A ton of stages, many of them - particularly the ones new to WRC2 - far more complex than anything in Dirt, and while I wouldn't have minded a better sense of weight to the cars as well as slightly stronger force feedback (inexplicably there's no option to adjust it), all the cars feel suitably different, much more so than in the Dirt series.

Played for what it is rather than what it should have been I would give WRC2 an 8 or more in sheer rallying enjoyment. But it certainly is flawed, so I can see why a 6 or a 7 would be more appropriate for many people.
And I have no clue how it plays with a pad, but then I feel an FFB wheel is a must have for any racing game with a semi-realistic handling model - and that includes both this and Dirt 2/3.

The only rally-type game worth playing in my opinion is Dirt2 & Dirt3.It plays perfect, the controls/handling are great and graphics are superb;plus the cool damage :)

The problem with Dirt 2 and 3, as much as I like those games, is that there aren't enough rally stages, most of them are very short (with long loading times and/or trips back to menus in between), and most of them - while fun to drive - are too wide, fast and sweeping to offer a challenge.

GamingBolt - A solid stab at a “real rally experience” that is somewhat let down by dodgy visuals and a lack of new content from last year's entry into the series.

Last year's game has Group B cars..

I'll always prefer the DiRT series. It could do with some improvements but DiRT 3 was a great all-rounder.
