Ember goes on about what he expects the next gen consoles to have.
Every Monday Ember crawls from his cave to come and deliver his opinion to you the readers. His grumpy Monday attitude fuels the fire that burns onto the screen to form the weekly article: Burning Embers.
Former PlayStation US bigwig Shawn Layden has weighed in on the subject of video game preservation during a chat with Lan Parties, stating that more should be done by the big players in the industry to help preserve games.
Preservation is important. I’m hoping that more people in the industry, certainly the big players, begin to realize that there’s an obligation and responsibility. This isn’t throw-away stuff we’re making. This is stuff that should be around for a long time because future generations will enjoy it in the same way that we have and it’s criminal that we’re not doing more to protect it.
Sony in particular has come under attack for its poor attitude towards game preservation, having originally announced plans to shutter the PSP, PS Vita, and PS3 stores back in March 2021. This was met with widespread backlash, resulting in the format holder confirming the Vita and PS3 stores would remain open.
Whilst the compang does the bare minimum with backwards compatibility?
Does this mean we can have a lot more "Playstation Classics"? I don't feel like we're getting enough for what was promised, at least they added a few games this month.
Sony is in a position where they could do a lot, with their premium games. They have all the systems in place to do something cool on the psp, ps2 and psx front, but they don't really want to, it seems.
When something wonderful becomes something so mind-numbingly routine.
Forgot to mention the RNG Bullshit which Is World of Warcraft. People got their second legendaries on their alts while others whom spent more time playing didn't get crap.
Bit-Tech: Perhaps the biggest surprise was that the tide of console gamers is a cultural phenomenon which does not appear to cross every border. According to NPD's research, while the UK has the highest incidence of console usage out of all the markets analysed Germany boasts the biggest number of PC gamers.
France, meanwhile, is clinging on to dedicated hand-held consoles like the Nintendo 3DS and Sony PlayStation Portable at a time when NPD's analysis shows that gamers in most other nations have ditched theirs in favour of getting their portable gaming fixes on smartphones and tablets.

you mean like japan, europe or the US where the 3ds is breaking records?
People are ditching the 3DS so fast in the US, 3ds sales have doubled over ds first year sales and the year isnt even over.
No source, no truth
who approved this garbage?
Considering most PC Gamers will own 1 or more consoles , declaring the UK as a "console nation" is complete and utter bollox.
owning a console and playing the occasional game once in a blue moon doesnt make you a console gamer. Just like owning a pc and maybe playing some random flash game doesnt make you a pc gamer. Alot of pc gamers bought ps3s, its a blu-ray player and media hub that plays games.
I'm from the UK and game on nearly every platform I can think of.
But yes in general I'm more thumbs than fingers when It comes to my games.
The way things are going now, I think the next batch of next gen consoles will be close to being a PC.
The arm comment for uhh wow, i mean just um wow!
