Modern Warfare 3 GM Not Impressed By Battlefield Franchise

"The developers behind Modern Warfare 3 may have 99 problems but Battlefield 3 ain’t one. Glen Schofield, general manager of MW3 co-developer Sledgehammer Games, has been singing the praises of their own military shooter as the release date for rival Battlefield 3 is just a week away. "

"Schofield claims that he had not heard of the Battlefield franchise until “five or six months ago,” when Battlefield 3′s marketing campaign began to build up steam."

""Schofield claims that he had not heard of the Battlefield franchise until “five or six months ago,” when Battlefield 3′s marketing campaign began to build up steam.""

LOL.....Complete Bullcrap. Are we really supposed to believe that a games developer like yourself hasn't heard of Battlefield...come on man that was the worst lie I've ever heard. He's probably been crapping himself about Battlefield 3 since it was announced, now knowing they have to work even harder (I know...GASP) on MW3 and actually try and put some effort into it.

Are these guys so far up there own arses that they think there game is BEST EVER because it gains a lot of sales. Most people buy it for social interaction Schofield, so they don't feel like the odd one out in school, college, what ever....not for quality. I mean look at this...

"This game is so big between the campaign, the Spec-Ops and the multiplayer, there was so much work to do that I don’t know whether it hit anyone’s mind or not"

Big.....you think the game is big, you could probably fit MW and MW2 on the disc knowing how bare and short the game actually is. With all three MW games you would get a longer single player and probably the same multiplayer since it's mostly the same in all three games. Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Batman AC, Assassins Creed and even Battlefield 3 are BIG games because they'll keep you occupied for longer.

All the Call of Duty franchise really is, is a huge social gimmick for social interaction.

fluffydelusions4592d ago (Edited 4592d ago )

To be fair, he is just a manager. His job is just to manage people. They don't have to know much else besides that in a lot of cases. They just have to keep track of people and make sure they are doing their jobs accordingly and meet deadlines.

WhiteLightning4592d ago

Yeah but I bet they have to keep there eye out of competition aswell so they can make sure the team are always one step a head of their competitors. Even so....for not knowing what Battlefield 3 is, is just a big fat lie. Of course he knows what it is, everyone has been comparing is to MW3 since they were both announced, for him to not know that well sorry....but he's a crap manager.

StanLee4592d ago (Edited 4592d ago )

You cannot have worked in the gaming industry for a long as Glen has, and not know of the Battlefield franchise. Further to that, until a year and a half ago, he worked for EA, so he's full of shit!

Ares84HU4592d ago

Well a manager SHOULD be informed. I'm not even a manager at where I work and I know all about our competition. How did he not know about Battlefield??? He works in the gaming industry and he doesn't even know about the heavy weight games??? I don't work in the gaming industry but I know about ALL games especially big hitters like BF3.

Anyways, I heard too much stuff like that from the COD team recently...bashing BF3 and saying crap about it. Enough is enough.

I'm not buying CODMW3 anyways but not because of that. I'm not buying it because I won't be scamed into a $65 expansion pack that does everything exactly the same for years already with an MP that is full of cheaters, hackers and 12 year olds.

I prefer a real FPS that requires skill and thinking. BF3 is my choice and MW3 will not be purchased by me.

dark-hollow4592d ago

What competition???
in terms of sales, no shooter is even close of cod sales.
Even the mighty halo have been beaten by cod and that on the 360 only.

Come on, selling 21+ million and INCREASING with each instalment while the fact that the game is being released EVERY YEAR is quite big.

Brosy4592d ago

This jackass is lying he's had to hear of Battlefield. Either that or he's woefully incompetent.

RememberThe3574592d ago

Bubbles to StanLee for blowin this dude up!

badz1494592d ago

hey, give the guy a break! he has a cow to milk but millions of sheep to feed! there's definitely no time to worry about competition!

LoVeRSaMa4592d ago

First release: Battlefield 1942 -September 10, 2002
First release: Call of Duty - October 29, 2003

Either that guy is new to the gaming industry or hes a lying noob.

Battlefield used to be at the top of the shooters, and when anyone talks about FPS combined with vehicles and planes ect Battlefield is always the game that its compared against.

Iroquois_Pliskin4592d ago

But why would he be impressed? They are competitors! It would just look bad if he came out and said he loves battlefield 3, that hes impressed by the game.

Come on if you think cod is better than BF3 your completely redundant.

C:Can't

Does cod have epic music??Nope.

Motorola4592d ago (Edited 4592d ago )

Hans Zimmer is pretty good actually... I think IW COD games and BF3 both have good music. Now that I think of it, Whenever i saw a MW3 trailer, I stayed mainly for the music :P

ape0074592d ago

what the hell??? maaaaan....

MW1 and MW2 have some of the best music ever

evrfighter4592d ago

Hanz zimmer isn't working on cod anymore

PhantomT14124592d ago

and he only did the theme, not the whole score. It was still good though...

CodMW3 day1 for me..I have fun online and that's all that matters,Just my opinion. Peace

Morgue4592d ago

And here I've been riding a bike all these years and just heard they have this thing called a car??

cj1pate1014592d ago

"Schofield claims that he had not heard of the Battlefield franchise until “five or six months ago,” when Battlefield 3′s marketing campaign began to build up steam." Wow just wow battlefield 1942 came out before cod. Fucking kids these days have no idea how important battlefield was when it first came out. No other game aloud you to do what 1942 did. This guy is either a vegetable from too many drugs or he wasn't involved in the making of call of duty 1 for pc. Pretty much to sum it all up infinity word used to be only pc after cod 2 everything changed. Now they are saying they never knew about battlefield lol. Best thing I heard all week!

GraveLord4592d ago

This is an interview with a guy from Sledgehammer Games. Its a new studio formed in 2009. They had nothing to do with ANY OF THE PREVIOUS CALL OF DUTY GAMES. Modern Warfare 3 is the first COD game the studio is working with.

(You keep using "They", this is an interview with 1 person. If you even read the article you would know that)

gamingdroid4592d ago

The article is written as a flame bait, but the original interview wasn't in that context at all.

I think Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward is doing the right thing, they are focusing on creating a better MW game, not a BF game! If I wanted BF, I would buy BF!!!

dark-hollow4592d ago

Crapping himself from battlefield??
ok let be real here guys. Battlefield have zero chance to outsell mw3 and mw3 will break the records like always.
that, and all the money from dlcs, the elite subscription etc.

I prefer battlefield 3 but I know that the cod franchise is way more successful.
If I were him, I wouldn't mind crapping my pants in a nice new bentley.

GroundsKeeperJimbo4592d ago

Beating it in sales? No. But for me; I'm not getting a COD game this year simply because I have a different game to choose from. :]

MrSpace4592d ago

It's not about if B3 will outsell MW3, it will still take a lot of it's audience away and when you loose some of your audience, your loose some of the money that would of been gained from MW3

Yeah so let's be real here..it will still take profits away from them, plus take in account all the other games coming out around the same time......it's not looking good for them

GraveLord4592d ago (Edited 4592d ago )

Read the interview. He said by the time he actually had hands-on time with BF3(the beta) it was already way too late to implement any changes.(not they he wanted to since he was unimpressed).

"Are these guys so far up there own arses that they think there game is BEST EVER because it gains a lot of sales. " They never said that.

"Big.....you think the game is big, you could probably fit MW and MW2 on the disc knowing how bare and short the game actually is." Nope. Actually the campaign is about the same length as the Battlefield Bad Company games.(but tells a much better story)

"With all three MW games you would get a longer single player and probably the same multiplayer since it's mostly the same in all three games." LMFAO! Complete bullcrap.

You're probably the most misinformed, biased, COD-hater I've even come across. Your whole comment is full of false accusations and nowhere near the truth. Grow up dude. There's more to games than just graphics.

hotskys4592d ago

I love cod and battlefield, but your comment just SCREAMS fanboy.

No one can enjoy both games, it just has to be one or the other.

Cod fans play cod, and bf fans hate it. I've never seen a group of people so angered by the success of something else.

cod and bf fanboys should just start their own religion, at least your anger would make more sense.

GraveLord4592d ago

Bubbles up for you.
I get prefering a certain game over another one but when you just write a comment like WhiteLightning did its just embarrassing. He can't even tell the difference between "there" and "their". It just speaks of how childish the BF community is.(or at least on N4G)

At least he got what he wanted though. Attention. Isn't that what trolls are after?

^ One bemused ardvark

Holeran4592d ago

They didn't need a beta because they already had MW2 and Black Ops so they have worked out most of the kinks by now.

SJPFTW4592d ago

MW3 is still a "beta", just like MW2 and blackops

hotskys4592d ago

whatever you wanna call it, it still cant be as shit as the bf3 beta was.

Don't eat your own words, you look ignorant.

SJPFTW4592d ago

LOL couple things

1) BETA issues have been fixed and recent gameplay videos show it

2) At least the crap we had to put up with in BF3 beta did not compare to the utter shit we had to put up with in MW2. Like OMA infinite noob tube nuke launchers. Something they refused to fix

who looks like an idiot now?

THEonlyBONBON4592d ago

hasnt heard of battlefield until 6 months ago... sure...

veChuy4592d ago

Well he should cause BTF3 Will be awesome and alot better than COD

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac32d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-2331d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher47d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris47d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX46d ago (Edited 46d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera46d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii46d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts46d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX46d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.
