GameDynamo - "This archaic JRPG gameplay is perhaps what hurts Persona 2 - Innocent Sin the most. Of course, the game is over ten years old. However, even for the time this game seemed to be a 'retro-throwback'. "
Persona 2: Innocent Sin is available once again for purchase on PSN, after having been removed from the store last month.
The Persona series has been a series well received by many people. The Persona series started off pretty similar to the Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) games but Persona 3 broke that trend and allowed the series to have a more unique aesthetic and play style. Atlus replaced the difficulty that SMT was so famous for with light visual novel elements, allowing the player to go on dates, attend a classroom and live a normal life when they aren’t off to save their little piece of the world. The combination worked well enough that it left people wanting more. Ever since people finished off Persona 4 no more than six years ago they have been looking forward to its sequel. It wasn’t so long ago that Persona 5 was announced for the Playstation 3.
Every game in the Persona series restores my faith in games a little bit more...year after constant year of Madden and CoD and non-innovative titles it is nice to see a game like Persona.
Imma go play Persona 3 now.
Persona games seem like something I'd play sometime. Just too much of a time investment right now. I tried getting into Animal Crossing New Leaf... and after wasting time there I don't think I will play really long games for awhile. Really sucks so many good long games, but the time it takes to play one OK long game. I could play 10 Really awesome shorter games. Reason I think JRPG genre is dying, not enough time for most gamers.
Many people recently have picked up their copies of Persona 4 the Golden for their Vita and Persona 4 Arena only to look back in wonder about the other games in the series. Collecting the other titles in the franchise however is quite expensive. Well, it looks like Atlus is looking to throw you all another bone.
if you don't own Persona 3, now is the time to get it! It is the greatest JRPG of all time (and consistently one of the highest rated). Forget Final Fantasy (yeah I said it...nostalgia just doesn't stand up to the test of time anymore).
Atlus > SqueEnix
What a worthless review .
"All in all, battles in Persona 2 - Innocent Sin are very generic RPG fare that we’ve seen a hundred times since the 90s."
Sure after stuff LIKE persona 1-2 ....
"generic RPG battles in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona games doesn’t feel right – and worse off, it feels old."
The issue here is you then , since you can't pull back to the old days mindset .
I hate to see the reviews for this game.
A big part remaking this game was to give North American (European as well?)players a chance to play a game that never came state side, so of course a lot of the game is archaic, because they didn't want to touch the core of the game to deprive the players of the original experience.
If they revamped it to fit more with modern day RPG standards the purists would cry foul for changing the core of a classic game, at the same time, by retaining so much of the original which is outdated in several ways nowadays the average RPG player does not enjoy it as much. Hell if you play some older Final Fantasy games they feel outdated, even VII, doesn't make them bad.
Taking it for what it is, a chance for me to play a game I otherwise wouldn't be able to play, the game is very good; my only big complaint being the loading times.
"Old, flat, and boring even for the time. SMT: Persona 2 - Innocent Sin wouldn’t even have been unique or fun back in the day. "
and that's false
Persona has a unique system that keep being unique , and this is a épisode that fans asked countless times since the original release ..
I guess this reviewer has just a poor range of rpg knowledge to even understand how good this gameplay is .
