Battlefield 3 Open Beta Update Number 1

Wow, as expected alot of news regarding Battlefield 3 this week and it won’t be ending soon, DICE have just released an update to the Open Beta.

Please prepare your disagrees as I am about to say some taboo shi* here. I am literally disappointed of the BF3 beta. Yes, YES and YES AGAIN, I know this is NOT a finished product but this beta seems like PRE PRE-ALPHA that's two pres you know. Which would be disappointing. I mean, BFBC2 beta was wayyyyy better than this thing :( Oh btw, I am on PS3 version so I have no idea if 360 version is just as bad or the opposite?

The 360 version and the Pc version are both buggy, glitchy and full of graphical mishaps.

LAst night i was crouching and sliding through the ground, weapons disappearing from my hands, the white flashing screen etc etc etc all these bugs are know to Dice though and should be fixed in the day one patch.

I had less glitches on the pc version but they were still there.

It's a beta, and glitches are your #1 complaint? Just shut up for now, if they're in the final product, sure, flip sh**. So far it's just rendering problems and one actual glitch with the kill camera so deal with it. It's a Beta, you don't have to even play the damn thing.

They can patch this all they want, but until they start removing the gameplay decisions that made this more CoD-like (low health, prone, dropshotting, etc.) I'm not buying it. Sorry.

Two. Prone has always existed in the Battlefield series.

@Fil101. I'm not complaining about the glitches or even the atrocious choice of maps. I know they'll they'l fix the bugs and I know the other maps will be better than this one. I'm talking about core gameplay elements that make this game play less like BC2 and more like CoD. Those represent decisions that were made early in the design process, and they can't be fixed since the maps were designed with them in mind.

@DeadlyFire. 100 health doesn't mean much in this game. You die WAY faster than in BC2 or Killzone -- it's a lot like CoD in that way. Prone didn't exist in BC2 and it was a better game for it. The lack of loldropshotting being one reason why.

I guess if you played normal mode on BC2 you have a point, but normal mode is lame. I am used to the lower health of harcore modes, and this beta has more health than those.

The glitches I've encountered are of the game breaking variety, so I am 100% sure they'll be fixed. The phase into the ground thing, while funny, can't stick around for $60.

You and I have the exact opposite opinion. It's ridiculous to not have prone in a shooter, especially a military oriented one like this, and I love that you can die with just a few hits. This is nothing like CoD in my opinion.

My biggest fear is that the actual game disks are being pressed as we type this (its due out real soon) and all this BETA stuff will be given in terms of updates. meaning out of the box, either a huge update or broken online :-(

this patch fixes a lot of things and the beta has only been out for 4 days. Dice is clearly working hard to get this right. Just fix the clipping issues and the game is damn near perfect imo.

This isn't the first article in which you've complained about the HUD. Does it bother you that much? Lol. I'm glad they added a screen effect for receiving damage. It was always difficult to know the exact moment you were getting shot at. Having low health and a percentage in the corner is unhelpful.

Oh yes baby! my shots are registering more consistently now. I'd empty half a clip on a target and still the f***** would end up killing me. :( Finally leaned the layout of the map and most of the hot spots and I'm actually starting to have some fun! :D

The only problem I have with the HUB is that your teammates names can hang above enemies if the enemy hops between you and a teammate. It makes me think that the guy is on my team because he has a little blue triangle above him. Then he shoots me cuz I glanced right over him.

There are also some issues that annoy me like not being able to step over the train tracks at times. But over all I'm really liking it. I passed on buying Resistance 3 for this game so I hop it delivers.

I find it really hard to believe that this game has so many issues and it still plans to release in less than 4 weeks. That's crazy. Betas should be months before release for time to fix bugs...and this game has a long list of them.

It really doesn't have that many serious issues. The worst is the clipping but everything else has basically been fixed with this update.

I just turned on the game, got into a match, fell through the map and was able to kill people from beneath the map. Hilarious, but understandably annoying.

I don't think any of these fixes will make it to the disk personally. And if they are fixing BETA issues then does that mean they are wasting their time if like MidnytRain said this is not the most recent software. I mean it seems like a waste of resources.

this beta is atrocious really. I think a lot has to do with the crappy map they chose, very little destructibility and no vehicles. doesn't feel like a battlefield. I prefer going back to Gears3 after just 2 matches, though not falling through the floor would be sweet, and the graphical glitches being fixes would be nice too. On the PC it looks a lot better then XBOX but its not good enough to make me as excited as the gameplay they showed earlier. I really hope that the single player game is well done because i have a feeling the online MAY be disappointing if this beta is any indication (mainly because its so soon to release, unless they push it back to 2012)

They didn't seem to mention the glitch in which you can't aim down the sight of your gun and have to switch to secondary then back to primary to remedy the problem. That's one of my biggest issues if I'm honest as it's cost me kills and entire games because I wasn't able to kill off attackers and defuse the detonators on my teams M-Com Station.

Also they need to tone down the flash lights. They're an absolute joke. I know it's meant to be realistic but c'mon son.

That is really only one of the problems that I've personally encountered..
It sure is annoying when an enemy is nearby and can't aim down the sight.

I'm seriously thinking in canceling my pre-order, I've been trying to access the freaking multiplayer for over 6 hours with no success. It persists on giving me the stupid cannot login to server error. Origin is a a piece of shit software that have ruined one of the most anticipated games of this year. WAY TO GO EA!!

4 weeks to release and these are the bugs in their BETA.. its a scary amount of bugs that should not have been there in the first place. I mean anyone that played the GEARS3 beta, or the ASSASSINS CREED REVELATIONS beta wouldn't even dream of playing anything that broken and assassins creed is about a month away, and Gears3 was 5 months after the beta.. so 4 weeks to fix this amount of problems, that occur over all 3 platforms is a bit much.

the ONLY way i can see the game being awsome is that the BETA was created quickly just to satisfy those that bough MOH and is just put together overnight.. i mean we don't even need the MOH disks! and i swear that i read you will need the MOH disk to play this beta. and this beta is some joke.. (its painful seeing all these glitches and no vehicles after loving other BF games so much)

what about the fact when your by rocks or a hill you go prone and ur guy keeps moving up and down.... thats the most annoying thing ive found so far, other then that, ive been equal with my kills n deaths, and thats running around and not camping. The game is great but doesnt have the customization like cod to make it the best. I support bf3 way more.

Karma has come and struck EA/DICE right in the rear. They talked so much smack on COD.. so much, at every chance they got, and they can hardly run a crappy looking beta right so far.

Server resets and the updates already in a couple days release. I know it's good for them to fix it, but when a game is coming out in 3 weeks, you'd like to see the game is working 98% of the way it should be, and shouldn't need so many fixes.

They should of spent more time fine tuning the game, instead of ripping on COD every moment they had. From this beta, COD is going to remain the Champion this gen.
