Today the Battlefield 3 open beta was released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively. I was as excited about Battlefield 3 as anyone when it was originally showed off, all the hype around the new "Frostbite Engine 2.0" and how great and inventive the game was going to be. I began to get a little worried however, because I am a console gamer first and foremost, so when we were seeing very little and sometimes no footage from consoles I began to investigate a little bit.

Actually I disagree I just find the beta way to buggy.Going prone puts me under the map majority of the time,enemies have my team mates name above it really weird shit.also getting shot through six walls is always pleasant.I know it's a beta and I'm glad we got the beta and thankful just wish they did this beta possibly two or three weeks prior.There's not much time left before release date.It still doesn't change my mind about buying the game.I still love the beta regardless and I stand by this game as being the best fps of the year so far.

I'm loving the beta and I'm forced to play it on the 360. It takes time to adjust after playing Black Ops and Gears 3 but once you learn to think more tactically, and move slowly, it's an absolute blast.

Well its a beta but i think its awesome. I have the pc and ps3 beta. Obviously the pc's grqphis are awesome but the gameplay on the ps3 is really tight.

There are some bug, like i fell through the ground when doing prone on both pc and ps3 , but that is what a beta is.

Both versions are really good. I cant wait to play some more maps when its released.

On topic, the beta is a beta. It's got bugs and flaws, and the reason FOR a beta is to fix those things. But it's easy to see that, beyond those little issues (I've fallen beneath the level, as well), BF3 will be a great game.

F**k EA and F**k Origin (NZ). I followed their instructions and downloaded and installed the 4GB demo only to launch it and it tell me I have to reinstall. So I did...and it kicks the 4GB download off again.

I'm simply not going to bother with this game at all now. The PS3 version looks like $hit and I can't even run the PC beta because of a broken install process.

Its my time and money they have to convince me to part with...they will get neither now.

I believe you are experiencing a PEBKAC error. If you downloaded the file, it should work, even more so if you tried it twice. I do agree Origin sucks, but myself and thousands and thousands of people haven't had an issue with downloading. How about posting on the forums about your issue instead of cancelling your preorder?

The download and install is managed through origin. All you have to do is select the beta, agree to the t&c and wait. Every step of the way it did things correctly except when trying to run the game when it said I needed to reinstall.

So, keep your problem between k/board and chair comments to yourself.

As for the pre-order...like hell. I wanted try before I buy but the PS3 version looked gastly and I'm not wasting any more time with the PC version.

I agree with Kaizin514. I woke up, went to n4g and read an article that said "you will have to update/reinstall BF3 beta again through Origins. Then I turned on my computer and did just that and didn't have a problem. After that I clicked the on the beta in Origins and it opened up the internet browser and to me to the battlelog site and I was soon playing.

i am enjoying the game but this metro map sucks a bit!ive not played battlefield 2, i started on the bad company series on console. What i loved about them was the fact that there was lots of stuff to blow up (buildings mainly) but on this map there's nothing. one part is very open and then the other is very shut in. i hope the other maps will be better

I know it's beta but... Come on! The graphics on console are average at best, with way too many jaggies. The movement is clunky, destruction seems to be non existent, control issues are constant(guns wont ADS a lot of the time), and Metro is a very mundane map. And a frustrating interface to boot

Unless DICE really get their game up by the end of October, I think I mightn't bother getting an FPS this year. Really disappointing, as far as betas go.

No, IT'S A BETA. When you download it, it says "beta". Why? Because IT'S A BETA. You get an opportunity to play an unfinished game, but in return you are serving as a guinea pig, identifying all the issues.

And to the people complaining about the CONTENT of the beta: are you freaking kidding me?! A beta is not a promotional event. It's a test, that they gave you the free opportunity to take part in. To put this in software development perspective, a good developer does not allow or restrict bugs in the beta. Beta is post unit, system testing and all other testing procedures they have. What we have is a glitchy beta and poor console graphics. So where's the much hyped frostbite 2.0?

Im really really enjoying the beta at the moment!Sure it has some problems and I'm quite disappointed with the visuals (On PS3), but I guess I got drawn into the hype seeing the PC footage!But gameplay wise its better than anything out there and I will not be canceling my preorder and wont be buying MW3 anytime soon especially whens its 43.99 and BF3 is only 38.99!

I am personally happy there is now effing Kill Cam, that thing is retarded. The Metro map is big, but big enough for 24 players because it was shrunk down a bit for the consoles.

Oh and if you are complaining about running across the map from a spawn point so far away, there is this lovely little thing I use all the time called SPAWNING ON YOUR SQUAD!

COD has seriously ruined the FPS genre at times, kids these days expect the game to be super twitchy, show you where the guy who killed you is, and in general just give everything to you on the silver platter.

I have faith in DICE and if they let me down I will be upset, but hey, that is how the cookie crumbles. And there is always Counter Strike: Global Offensive coming early next year.

BF3 is a tactical shooter(not as tactical as Ghost Recon obviously), this isn't COD kids, get over it and play the game.

I'm enjoying the beta regardless of the problems it has, cause i know dice isn't going to release a game that has problems like it does in the beta. The beta doesn't represent the final product of the game, so why bother nip picking at and just enjoy that you can play it.
