Modern Warfare 3's Pepsi Cross Promotion Steps Over the Line

I can understand a studio and a brand attempting to work together to figure out some sort of reasonable ad campaign for an upcoming game, as there’s nothing inherently wrong with that concept. Product placement or cross promotion is nothing new in the industry, but this new collaboration between Pepsi and Activision is nothing short of unholy.

Steps over the line???? Really. So certain promotions that mean you can never get 100% of the game is not as bad??? More XP for buying Pepsi products in my opinion is pretty tame compared to the other promotions

I don't get either why people seem "upset" about this. It means nothing. I have not yet seen a CoD where being a higher level gives you an outstanding advantage. Which is what XP will do.

I think this is pretty smart, hopefully they will add more products to give this to those who won't drink Mountain Dew and think Doritos are way too unhealthy.

this article is sad, a higher rank does not give you any advantage

the guns and equipment that are unlocked by default in COD games are always the most user friendly ones

if you can't play with the low level gear you won;t get better at a higher level

there is also a limit to the time you can compound, you can only use enough codes for 24 hours of play

I really want to say it doesn't matter- mostly because I won't be playing much MW3 and I don't care for Pepsi beverages- but it does. It may not be a HUGE advantage, but it's still an advantage. And it's pretty sad that they would go as far as pairing up with Pepsi to do so (not that Pepsi, itself is a bad product or anything).

It's not even 0.001% of an advantage. Get your facts straigth son. XP in Call of Duty will not give you any advantage. Levels will not give you an advantage. You see, unlike other games CoD has spread out their powerfull weapons, perks and tools amongst all levels rather than from bottom to top.

Juggernaut Suit is overrated anyways.

My facts ARE straight. I don't honestly care about "the first weapons are the most user friendly" or some such crap. When I played CoD on a regular basis, it was never a low-level weapon I was best with, but something up the ladder. There are also attachments and perks that give you a bonus.

XP and levels DON'T give you an advantage, directly. But the things you unlock with the levels gained through that XP DO. Even if it's less than 0.0001% of an advantage.

Who cares about the promotion. It limits the double XP to 24 hours. They do double XP weekends all the time. If someone wants to spend lots of money on Pepsi products for a little XP boost that's fine.

i was just gonna say the same thing...i mean when ppl dont get 2 play during double xp weekends cuz they're busy are they automatically at a disavantage? & its not lik the pepsi stuff is gonna be super expensive or isnt already being eaten already.

i just wonder how long the codes will be good 4 and what happens if u hold onto em till double xp weekend will u get 4times xp.lol

Kids aren't the target audience for COD. Its 17+, Rated-M.
Anyway there's no distinct advantage between a level 1 and a max prestige player in COD. The only real difference is that the max prestige player is a lot more experiences and probably knows his way around all the maps.

You can hate Activision and Call of Duty all you want, but as businessmen, these guys are fucking geniuses. Call of Duty has become powerful enough that it can practically be considered more than just a game. It's basically a new form of social media and can also be used a powerful marketing tool. Valve realized that with TF2 as well, except Valve isn't going the same direction as Activision is taking Call of Duty.
