Square Enix looking for Xbox 360 job experience....for Versus 13

A Final Fantasy Versus XIII job wanted ad lists PS3 package title experience as necessary, "or otherwise an Xbox 360 package title". But Versus is a PS3 exclusive! Just like FFXII was. Well, at one point.

Optical_Matrix4601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

Lol Kotaku shit stirring once again. It's a well known fact that people who have worked on 360 games are perfectly viable to work on PS3 exclusives as well, especially when the developer in question is developing on a multiplatform engine. I'm almost 100% certain people who have developed solely on 360 have moved on to work on PS3 exclusively and vice versa.

Either way, multiplatform or not the game just needs to hurry up and release.

@Mohdunknown...like The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery?

RedDead4601d ago

Hopefully no multi, it's take longer and there is a chance it will be affected quality wise, we just don't know if FFXIII was or wasn't due to the 360, but i'd prefer them not to take the chance. Too bad for me though, I highly doubt it will stay exclusive, this is S-E.

Dante1124601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

Lol, didn't they reveal this "developer wanted job" in 2010 when Wada said something that got FF fans mad where he had to come out with a statement saying FFv13 is still currently being work on as an exclusive? Hope they don't make it multi though, it'll get gimped like FF13 did. Ouch, was that game a train wreck.

Edit: Yeah, it would be a tight squeeze to fit the game on dvd since it'll have some CGI cutscenes and so called "hugh towns and side quests" to visit. Something would most certainly have to be cut.

ApplEaglElephant4601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

Sony is second largest stockholder of SE. They have a considerable influence in SE, but they can be over ridden.

After FFXIII, sony will do everything in their power and influence inside SE to keep FFXIII VS exclusive. On top of that, Sony has secured exclusivity contract. So there is very very small chance of Versus ever becoming multiplat.

I mean when they say if you havent worked on PS3 title before, its ok if you have 360 title experience. It simply means nothing since Versus is running on multiplat engine.

zeeshan4601d ago

Vs is defenitely 360 bound. Why else is it still not out?

Minato-Namikaze4601d ago

@apple. I believe that vs is running on the original white engine. It's why the game already looks miles better than XIII. But if it does go multi then you can expect to hear about cut content soon after. Plz don't ruin this game SE :(

ApplEaglElephant4601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

that there is a contract in place for Versus unlike FF 13.
Also, Sony is second largest stockholder currently.

And Versus is not out yet because FF 13-2 is coming out this year. Why would they release two FF on PS3 same year..

You are just saying "Versus is 360 bound" without reason. you are just desperately grasping at straws at best...

DragonKnight4601d ago

@Apple: Source for this contract subject you brought up. I have not heard anywhere that there is an exclusivity contract for Versus XIII, and surely if there is then there was for XIII itself.

On topic, this is akin to asking if a person simply has current gen console development experience. However I wouldn't put it passed Wada to lie to everyone again and make Versus XIII multiplatform.

gaffyh4600d ago

This is normal, even Sony developers ask that people have experience with PS3 or 360 development.

TheRealWar4600d ago

"Denial is a defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence."

DragonKnight4600d ago

@TheRealWar: A) Sigmund Freud has been proven to be a wack job. B) What "overwhelming evidence" can you provide that supports a 360 version. C) Did you even read SE's ad? It's essentially asking for console experience, not the 360 specifically.

Fail.

Ravens204600d ago

PFFT with so many great games coming out, I have NO time to waste on a FF game anyways.

I think SE should make FF a time-exclusive for the PS3. Let another company(they can trust) handle(not develop) the 360 version. It would prevent delays for the ps3 version and 360 won't end up port hell.

Sure it won't address all of the problems but it would fix some of the big ones.

labaronx4601d ago

my thoughts exactly..... this is taking way too long.

wouldn't be suprised if it was announced for, 360, PC and wii u as well

firelogic4600d ago

Seriously. You don't go looking for 360 programmers by saying, "We want PS3 experience, or at the very least, 360 experience."

I really don't know how anyone with any modicum of intelligence could derive, "360 version in the works!" from that statement.

Prophet-Gamer4600d ago

I really, really hate Kotaku. They just seem so unprofessional, no they don't seem like it, they ARE incredibly unprofessional.

SilentNegotiator4600d ago (Edited 4600d ago )

"A Final Fantasy Versus XIII job wanted ad lists PS3 package title experience as necessary, "or otherwise an Xbox 360 package title""

A games company looking for people with experience with HD consoles (with clear diction that they're more interested in ps3-experience more than 360)? FF13-vs on Xbox 360 confirmed!

Mohdunknown4601d ago

it will be released for 360 tho. it has to. It defies logic for square to make it exclusive to one system

4024601d ago

exactly square enix needs the money and besides porting to 360 is very cheap and easy so they won't have to invest much time or effort into the 360 version

sashimi4601d ago

Guess that means Dragon Quest is also going multiplat then since it "defies logic" for square to make it exclusive to Nintendo /s

Mohdunknown4600d ago

Not all dragon quest games are only on nintendo platforms.

Games like DQ8 was on ps2.

Nintendo also published some of the game in the series in NA and Pal areas.

d3nworth14601d ago

If it were any other genre then i would agree but JRPGs don't usually sell well on 360. Question is it worth the trouble of porting a game to a console whose audience generally doesn't buy that type of game? Personally I say no. Might as well just leave it on the console you know it's most likely to sell on.

_Aarix_4601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

But itll sells enought to make a profit as oppose to never porting it.

Foliage4599d ago (Edited 4599d ago )

Not when it costs you almost a whole extra year of development.

Granted, the 360 library has been terrible for years now and it looks like the trend will continue. There is a lot of good reason for them to think that a console with no competition may be worth porting to...

firelogic4600d ago

Riiight. Just like Gears of War is on the PS3. Oh wait. I guess Epic is just as stupid as SE is.

Mohdunknown4600d ago

except MS has made a deal with EPIC where Epic owns the ip but MS has the publisher

I don't think sony and square are in the same deal

SnotyTheRocket4600d ago

Maybe Sqeenix will get it in there heads that, oh I dunno, XIII sucked? Vs is Exclusive.

Nooooooo I don't want another gimped FF game! Goodbye to gorgeous CGI's and who knows what other stuff for the sake of fitting the game on what? 4 discs? If the game's more open then what's gonna happen, you'll need to change discs back and forth too? =/

And considering that both versions have to be equal then how is this gonna work on PS3? Are they going to divide the game in multiple chunks? Man I'm scared! What if they totally gimp the game to make it fit on 1-2 DvD9's!

Pozzle4601d ago

Didn't Square confirm Versus is 100% complete a few weeks ago though? So I'm guessing they've already finished the PS3 version. If a 360 version does end up being made in future, I doubt it will affect the already-completed PS3 version.

Ddouble4601d ago

Nah they said it's going into 100% production meaning it's now their main priority so all hands on deck whereas before some people would be helping out with the other games they had coming out.

4024601d ago (Edited 4601d ago )

don't waste your breath even the ps3 version of ff-13 was completed before square enix even STARTED work on the 360 version yet ps3 fanboys still proclaimed that the game was held back by 360 when in actual fact ff-13 is only 6.8gb game data(which can easily fit on a 360 disk not to speak of the new XGD3 360 disks that can hold 8gb) and over 32 gb of 1080p CGI(on ps3 the 360 version has much lower quality CGI to save space) which means that the VAST majority of ff13 data was CGI and NOT game data.

ff 13 was held back by square enix. lost odyessy on 360 had cities and towns so why couldn't FF13 and most of lost odysseys disk space was taken up by CGI as well and NOT game data(only 6gb was game date the rest of the 18gb was CGI)

ffv-13 on 360 will be the same they'll develop first on ps3(spend most of their time on the ps3 version) then when thats completed they'll quickly port it to 360 so the 360 version will have a very short development cycle. by the way ff-13 on 360 isn't nearly as good looking as 360 games like crysis 2 and gears 3 so improvements can be made the ps3 version isn't nearly as good looking as uncharted 3 either.

I wish they'd brink more FF to pc but I don't think that would ever happen.

If you want a MASSIVE rpg tell square enix to use most of the space for GAME data and NOT CGI as I personally don't play CGI I play the game itself and I'd prefer more content.

Pozzle4601d ago

@Ddouble: Ah, ok. I must have read the news article wrong. :(

SnotyTheRocket4600d ago

They said I was in beta I think, so yeah, pretty much done.

@ 402 the 360 fanboy

You're quite wrong. When the 360 version was announced, the PS3 version was immediately delayed on this side of the planet to match the release date of the 360 version. That is what you call BEING HELD BACK.

Next, content was removed from the game after the decision to go multi-plat was made. Quite obviously to keep the experience on both consoles similar. There is irrefutable proof of this from countless credible sources (including square themselves), if you take even a minute to stop talking out of your arse and check the facts.

Next... if you think that when the 360 version was announced, that they signed the deal the day prior. Your level of delusion is on par with a chronic drug addict of some heavy stuff. Just like how Mass Effect 2 was being worked on for a year for the PS3, even to the extent of having it on the ME3 engine (in other words, not just a port)... there is next to no chance that the 360 version was not already being worked on prior to the announcement. Who knows how long it may have been? It takes a lot of work to cram a game into such an outdated disc format.

stonecold34601d ago

wont happen its ps3 exclusive?

DigitalRaptor4601d ago (Edited 4600d ago )

This is just Kotaku stirring it up for the fanboys with their unpublished "wink".

Just delve into my comments history and you will find logical points of past about Versus XIII and why it's simply NOT going multiplatform.

Every single person on here talking about how Square Enix will port it to the 360 and it's cheaper and it "defies logic", you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and you're grasping at straw at best!

Versus XIII has been planned as a PS3 game (complete technological optimization) for its entire development process, XIII & XIII-2 didn't and the 360's limitations were in mind during both developments. If they were to bring it to the 360 at this stage, the entire development process would have to be deconstructed and reconstructed to fit 360 development (processing & storage) - it would damage the goals of this project, AND the pace at which it's development progresses.

I'm not going to repeat myself even more, just look at my comment history regarding Versus. Do some research and it will lead you to the most logical conclusion.

And not only this, but anyone who would rather see this game downgraded to fit on their system, you're completely selfish and people like you will never see the bigger picture. We've seen this happen with FF XIII (there was not much proof there, just major suspicion), but with XIII-2, what more needs to be said? The CGI cutscenes were downgraded because of the 360.

If it was coming to 360, it would have been announced months ago, since it's gonna be released next annum.

Square Enix Declares $140m Loss Amid Game Pipeline Shakeup

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.

Furesis2d ago

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot2d ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

Kakashi Hatake2d ago

6 and 8 were way more p popular games despite today's cult following of 9.

blackbeld1d 18h ago

I want my FF8 remake! Can't believe they cancelled it.

TiredGamer2d ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood2d ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades2d ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

Tapani1d 20h ago

They lost the magic in the remakes. And the story is incomplete. The original FF7 is still way better. The Remake / Rebirth are just fan service. Like an Anime/Manga with "optional" filler content. FF7 had pretty much zero filler, it was paced extremely well, and still today flows much better than the grindy story and spongey enemy battles in the remakes.

babadivad1d 17h ago

If they released it at once on all platforms, they would have made all of their money back. Could have been on to an FF8 or 9 remake. Ready to cash in again on nostalgia like Capcom. This is their fault for trying to milk the title.

Once I head they were breaking it up into parts, I lost all interest.

neutralgamer19921d 19h ago

I hope people understand usually when a loss is declared it means a game which had been in development got cancelled. For example Sony Santa Monica before GOW-PS4 had cancelled a project which Sony had spent 7 figures on

As far as square is concerned they release a bad game once a year. Forspoken anyone?

For those making comments on remake not selling well, I hope y’all realize that Sony is the only reason this remake is happening. If Sony didn’t fund it the remake wouldn’t be happening. Just like Konami didn’t want to remake SH2 because development costs of 100 plus million

shadowT2d ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog2d ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn2d ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf2d ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer2d ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

wiz71912d ago

@tiredgamer I think your point is one that ppl don’t understand and you hit it on the nose .. some gamers don’t want to take accountability but it’s some of the gamers fault the industry is where it’s at .. we as gamers set the standards for the industry not the shareholders , ppl forget that the shareholders and the industry want and need OUR Money. Both the Xbox and PlayStation are seeing a drop in hardware , the industry is very stagnant right now.

Tacoboto2d ago

Speaking to Square:

Turns out their mismanagement wasn't related to the western studios they dumped to Embracer, but their own fault.

With regards to Xbox - a good way to kill your brand is to pull support on high quality titles and only dump B and C-tier titles to it

With regards to PC - Epic Games Story exclusivity for any duration and piss-poor optimization will hurt you.

With regards to FF Pixel Remasters - y'all messed up by barely releasing them on physical, like wtf that was free money!

And lastly, you don't help a franchise by releasing a mainline title that undermines every title that came before it. FFXVI was a DMC-like with bottom-of-the-barrel side quests and I can't imagine that helping Rebirth at all considering its marketing is directly tied to how big that game is.

Tacoboto2d ago

Sony is getting their best titles and with the most polish, so what about it? Nintendo gets their top properties too, for titles that can run on Switch hardware.

It's the other fanbases that get the second- and third-class treatment from Square. If that's due to agreements with Sony, that's not a Sony issue but a Square one for accepting those terms. Sony is doing its best to look out for Sony.

wesnytsfs1d 18h ago

sales and stupid practices like exclusives.

TiredGamer2d ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS72d ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing692d ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

gold_drake2d ago

same

but im not sure if it matters at all. im sure they made sony pay a hefty sum for the 3parter to come on ps5 exclusively. so watever they made in sales, might have come bk in profits for square, but i dont know
and we dont know what "underperformed" even means for square.

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff21833d ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies123d ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC3d ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic3d ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix3d ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing693d ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.
