Rage Install Time on the PS3 is Long; 7.6GB Required

Installing a game data on the PS3 can be too annoying depending on the size of the data. With Rage, expect to save at least 7.7GB as the game will pretty much require 7.6GB Of hard drive space.

Beats swapping discs

Pop it in, let it install, make a cup of tea and wait

Most of the time when I go off to do something I totaly forget about it then when I realise it's done and ready to play.

Lovable4635d ago

Ummm kkk...I don't see why you have to compare it to swapping disc but oh well..

That's a huge chunk from my almost already full hardrive...

NukaCola4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

Well Sony allowed the game to take the 8gb to ensure that it is the best that it can be and it is. The PS3 version will run at the consoles fullest potential. The 360 version will need to install as well to maximize the quality, which takes 22gbs. So I think allowing the maditory install over the 3 disc process is well worth it. Plus this takes all but 5-6mins. I am pretty sure that is quite a lot less than installing the 360 discs which are about 5-6mins each. Sony is doing what they can to help it's gamers and id make the best experience possible. You bros can hate all you want, but I like it when a game is made to be it's best. Shows the devs and the console companies care about the product. And this open world beast is a monster. If I got it on 360 I would suck up the 22gb as well. You do want your game to be running at it's best right? Or are you going to stream line this game with all the popin and textures hiccups that come with that?

IdleLeeSiuLung4635d ago

"Well Sony allowed the game to take the 8gb to ensure that it is the best that it can be and it is."

oh eally

maybe more like the blu-ray drive is too slow so installation was forced otherwise it would look like siht compared to the 360 versiuon

psucky 3 can't even get xross game chat

too little memory

BakedGoods4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

"psucky3"? Hahaha, musta taken you all day to come up with that one.

Did you beat Gears 3 already? No other games left to play?

Gamer30004635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

@idleleesiulung
it really amazing that you have all this bubbles
xbox360 both ways are really bad
if you play with 3 Dvd's then you will not get the same qualtiy of the game as the ps3 version
if you install the game you will be installing 22GB
and thats the only way to make the 360 version almost on par with ps3 version

I c ur pride was hurt.

to bad I only care about PC which is superior in every way, but 360 is beytter than psucky 3 any day

jetlian4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

they already said 20-30mins how you get 5-6? yakuza 4 takes 20 mins for 5gigs!

Anyway 360 can still play without it and disk changing only 15 secs

DaTruth4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

"Rage Install Time on the PS3 is Long; 7.6GB Required."

In other news: Rage Install Time on the PC is Loooonnng; 30GB Required.

How come this one never makes the news???

NukaCola4635d ago

@idle

id has stated that the PS3 version will perform better than the 360 version uninstalled. So it's recommended that the 360 version install the 22gb. Then you;ll notice some areas on each console can out perform each other. The game will be the same basically on both.

So 8gb vs 22gb? I think I will just install the game on PS3 and wait. If I were you I would install it on 360 or PC (which takes a full install anyway) Trolling isn't your strong suit there bud.

jetlian4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

is 360 doesn't have to install just to play. And you don't have to do the whole game all at once.

Pc installs everything so its always there

gamingdroid4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

***id has stated that the PS3 version will perform better than the 360 version uninstalled.***

To be fair, the PS3 version wouldn't work uninstalled at all.

***Then you;ll notice some areas on each console can out perform each other. The game will be the same basically on both.***

The Xbox 360 version gives you two options, instantly playable without an install or best performance with an install. The latter is likely better than PS3 or at a minimum match the PS3, while the PC has the flexibility of being the best on almost all accounts depending on your investment into your system.

Personally, I install all my games on the Xbox 360 to save wear and tear on my optical drive, as we all know that is usually the part that dies first due to large mechanical moving parts.

kreate4634d ago

i guess idleLeesiuLung never played god of war 3 before.

its known to be a epic game with good graphics.

no installation
no loading screens

it just depends on the developers.

JaredH4634d ago (Edited 4634d ago )

This is sad that people care this much about the install time, size or disk swapping of each multiplatform console game. Just play the game on the console of your choice if you want the game instead of trying to justify which console you're buying it on. You won't notice any graphical, loading differences or performance differences since you're only buying one version of the game because even if the game performs or looks slightly better on one console you won't know unless you look for it online for no reason. If your care that much just get a good PC. I didn't have high speed internet when the Orange Box for ps3 came out and I played through Portal and Half-Life 2 multiple times before I even knew it was the "gimped" version...

TyrionL4634d ago

LOL, I hate this argument so much, but as a owner or both I can tell you the PS3 version with 8 gigs to install, will take 4EVER. Installing all the 360 disc will be faster. That is one thing about the PS3 I HATE, any install or update takes too long. I understand in the grand scheme of things that the amount of time it takes isn't that bad, but when you get off work and finally get the kids to bed and have a couple hours to yourself, then pop in that new game only to find you have to install it for 20 min, it sucks. You can say it doesn't, or argue with me about the amount of time it takes, but I KNOW because it happens all the time. When the 360 has an update 3 minutes later I'm playing. I can actually sit there until it’s done. LOL, when the PS3 has an update, I’m better off switching to HDMI2 and playing a 360 game, because I don't feel like waiting on it.

I know pointing out any flaw with the “Almighty PS3” on this site is going to be met with a bunch of people claiming how much of a 360 fanboy I am, and how it doesn’t take that long for them, but I don’t care, it’s the TRUTH. I just don’t understand why the 360 is so much faster at this stuff. Sony had to know there would be all these updates and installs. Why make them so freaking slow?

and....

there was no need for you to bring up the 360's disc-swapping.

But yeah, I usually pop in an episode of supernatural when mandatory installs come my way.

dangert124635d ago

This is nothing I've sat through longer patches sadly but you get used to it

WANNAGETHIGH4635d ago

I don't know y this 8gig install is needed. Killzone3 looks better than Rage and it did not need any install.

kikizoo4635d ago

Lol@the disagrees for mr space, it's sad to see the 2006 fanboyliars in full force (with multiaccounts) this day, even if they failed on all aspects of the console gaming (sales, exclusives, graphics), their new ridiculous argument is "bububu pc is better then ps3" LOL

*you can see real mentally disturbed ones, like iseeilung, trying to lie...forgetting that people here are gamers, knowing the reality :)

Solidus187-SCMilk4635d ago

yeah you can "make a cup of tea and wait." swapping a disk takes 10 seconds.

_Aarix_4634d ago

Ones not worse than another. Disc swapping will take about 2 minutes at most but the catch is its during parts of a game and many people dont mind. Installing it will take some harddrive space which is a issue for a minority and it takes at least 10 minutes and 2 > 10. Its a trade off, ones not worse than another.

TBM4634d ago

i have a 500 gig HD so this is nothing to me, it will probably take about 5 mins to install for me.

Sunhammer4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

Old, and still beats 3 discs and a 22 gig install (360).

John Carmack has said that the only way to slightly reduce the 360's texture pop up issue is to install the game, which again, is a 22 gigabyte install. They've also separated the multiplayer portion of Rage into a separate disc for the 360 version, so every time you want to switch in between campaign or multiplayer, you have to swap. Gotta love.

gamingdroid4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

No, you can install one disc at a time on 360. Each disc takes less space than the PS3 installation.

The install will probably be faster too.

If you install all the disc, it will probably load faster on the Xbox 360, but if you don't it will be faster on the PS3 so it all boils down to "pay me now or pay me later".

Jeff2574635d ago

You could do that but then you would have to stop the game after the 1st disc. Uninstall it then install disc 2. Then if you only wanted one disc on the system and wanted to play the mp you would have to uninstall disc 2 install the mp and that would take more time away from gaming. So really which is better. The PS3 8gb install at the beginning or stopping on the 360 because someone only installs one disc at a time? If I had a 360 and was going to buy Rage for it I would just do the full install from the start. Yes it would take some time at the beginning just like it will for the PS3 (8gb install) or PC (which has a 25gb install by the way) but honestly spending that time at the beginning to have a seamless experience later is worth it.

Anyway no matter what system someone buys this for it will be a great game.

gamingdroid4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

It all depends, personally I prefer a faster install up front. Usually when I buy a game I want to try it right away so following the "instantness" of console is personal preference.

I install it mostly because I don't want my optical drive to wear out. That's usually the first part to get broken.

***Then if you only wanted one disc on the system and wanted to play the mp you would have to uninstall disc 2 install the mp and that would take more time away from gaming.***

I really don't see anyone installing then uninstalling a disc repeatedly. In those situations, you are more likely to just pop the disc in and play.

Instant gratification. No fuss, no muss.

As I said, either way you pick it is pay me now or pay me later. That includes the PC!

TyrionL4634d ago (Edited 4634d ago )

@ Jeff
No you wouldn't have to do half the stuff you were talking about, and I can almost guarantee you could install all 3 disc and be playing before the ps3 installs its 8 gigs. BTW why would someone want to only have 1 disc on at a time. I know I wouldn’t. Even if I didn’t have the space on the HDD, they install so fast on the 360 I would just delete some games I wasn’t playing and install these, then change them back later if I needed to.

You ask " So really which is better. The PS3 8gb install at the beginning or stopping on the 360 because someone only installs one disc at a time?"
Well as I explained you're about the one disc at a time thing, and to be honest if they looked and performed the same on both systems I would prefer the shorter ( install time) version, that offered an complete install, on the 360. It just saves wear and tear in the system when the disc doesn’t have to spin.
The thing is your WHOLE argument is based on a “what if”, so you really have no leg to stand on. I mean I could sat “what if” your HD on the PS3 was full, you couldn’t even play the game. See how illogical that sounds?

Lucreto4635d ago

No problem

Come home from work.

Open game and skim through the manual.

my 90€ 1TB HDD will have no problem at all

Aussiegamer4635d ago (Edited 4635d ago )

Correct me if Im wrong I thought we could only get up to a 750gb HDD for the ps3. I have a 500 and I read that the 1tb is slightly too big. As in the physical size of the hdd was too big to fit into the ps3.

But yeah I have no problems with the installs.

lashes2ashes4635d ago

there is 1tb drives out that will fit ps3 now. they came out a couple of months ago

Aussiegamer4635d ago

@lashes cheers man, did not know that.

Might have to pick one up soon.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071810d ago (Edited 1810d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141810d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1809d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1810d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1809d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1809d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1804d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
