Has Activision gimped MW3's content in order to later sell it at a premium through CoD Elite?

AATG writes:

"Modern Warfare 2's Special Ops modes required 69 stars (23 levels' worth) for 100% completion. Whereas Modern Warfare 3's 48 stars leads us to believe it contains only 16 Special Ops levels.

Activision has gone on the record to state that subscribers to its premium Call of Duty Elite service will receive new in-game content each and every month which lends credibility to speculation that it's stripped out game content in order to then later sell you it as premium DLC."

... It's Activision. They'd do anything for money. They're evil!

-Mika-4610d ago

It a rumor. Stop jumping to conclusions. If they was so evil. They would have included an online pass with BO and mw3.

blumatt4609d ago

Online passes are only here because of used game sales and renting of games. If people would start BUYING new games, they wouldn't have to implement those online passes. And, regarding Activision doing this, I'm STILL not buying the Elite service.

gamingdroid4609d ago (Edited 4609d ago )

Yes, because last I checked, EA only made $210 million last quarter. They really need that online pass!

If anything, Activision gives you a fair choice to choose if what they offer is worth you parting with your money, not sneak anti-consumer terms into their products like EA did with:

- online passes
- nasty DRM like Spore
- gives EA the right to spy on their customers and share it with third parties
- gives EA the right to disable and delete your account (that has games you purchased) after 2 years of inactivity

We also, may have all forgotten how EA peddled annual sequels as well with Madden and blocked out all competition by buying up the exclusive license for sports games.

Used game market exist because games are too costly. If the games were cheaper, there would be far lower profit margin to be made on used games. Besides, there is no other industry that demands payment from second hand sales, so why should games get that treatment, unless you are in the gaming industry?

***If people would start BUYING new games, they wouldn't have to implement those online passes.***

So yes, if you want to support Online Passes, that is fine, but don't be ignorant to the truth.

I Cant Believe Activision is the Bad Guy these last few Years, some years its EA' whats the deal with that? Bobby Kotick Fired the Heads of Infinity ward to Avoid Paying them some of the Millions they deserved , for starting this Hype Train , keeping people hoping theres another Call of Duty 4.. Like GTA.. If they release another GTA 4 people will still buy hoping for a new Vice City, San Andreas

nolifeking4609d ago

COD sells 20 mil copies a month or so after release, no need for an online pass.

Trophywhore4609d ago

Yes. They did it before and called it "map packs".

xAlmostPro4609d ago

Of course they did, how else would they be able to manage new DLC EVERY MONTH. They can't even keep the games patched or fix them well, yet they have enough time to create a years worth of extra content?

ATi_Elite4610d ago

Well Duuuuuuh!

I'm shocked they haven't just sold gamers a empty box for $60 and said the game will be another $60 in DLC!

-Mika-4610d ago

Stop bashing cod. Every cod game i played shipped with alot of maps out the box. You can still enjoy the game without buying DLC.

ATi_Elite4610d ago

I'm not bashing COD...I'm bashing greedy Activision.

Tres214609d ago (Edited 4609d ago )

yea im gonna hav 2 agree wit him on that...that was pretty funny & no cod bashing

NarooN4609d ago

Get off CoD's balls man, goddamn. You're acting like that game saved your family's life or something.

DARK WITNESS4609d ago

ya... and you have not noticed that the number of maps has been getting smaller and smaller with each Cod game ?

Stop bashing cod, leave cod alone, Mummy they are making fun of cod, why are you being so mean towards cod? why do you hate cod so much.. boo hoo hoo...

Open your eyes and look at the big picture

Imao! Comment of the week^^

sashimi4609d ago (Edited 4609d ago )

Do people even need to ask? i took a look at the Blackops DLC on PSN yesterday just to see how much all the DLC cost and surprise surprised $60 total for every single map pack.

If that isn't greed i don't know what is and why wouldn't Activision leave out content if its selling for such a premium price individually.

HappyWithOneBubble4609d ago (Edited 4609d ago )

So that's $120 for one game and if you on 360 that's $180 because of XBL $60 fee.

TheDivine4609d ago

It does sound that way but mw3 still prob has more content than every other shooter. We get a survival mode where you can play on every multiplayer map, spec ops, and more maps than other games. They couldve sold the survival mode as dlc or had one map per map pack like zombies. COD has dlc because its so popoular, new maps keep people interested. In a smaller community like kz3 or homefront it can split the community but in massive games it keeps it going plus you dont need it. I can still find matches in mw and waw without the dlc so its for the hardcore players who get burned out on 14 maps in 3 months because its all they play. I dont like dlc id rather it be in the game but if they make it after and its not necessary to have why not? Only gripe i have is how its 15 bucks, should be 10 MAX.

Vortex3D4609d ago

If anyone is unsure about how much contents are moved to Elite subscription, don't rush to buy MW3 immediately. Plus if you wait, the online multiplayer will be more patched by then. Somehow there will be plenty of gamers who just can't wait and then complain about it later.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac29d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

X-2327d ago

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Cheech And Chong Are Coming To Call Of Duty Because Everything Must Be Consumed

The famous comedy duo is the latest example of pop culture becoming one big grey blob

Christopher43d ago

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris43d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera43d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii43d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts43d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX43d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

is this what the kids want these days a pair of iconic stoners who were big in the 70s and have kind of held on I enjoyed their movies decades ago but I never recall the movie where cheech infiltrates a enemy base while chong snipes for support guess I must of missed that one

Man I'm getting to old for this

Knightofelemia43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Cheech just looks so wrong in the picture.

Profchaos43d ago

Why just why. cod up in smoke

anast43d ago

They charge too much for a game that is kitsch.
