NowGamer - Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD Review

In Code: Veronica’s case, a simple HD port really isn’t enough. It’s horribly dated, full of infuriating design decisions, and requires a proper remake if it wants to belong in 2011.

:(

Code Veronica might be outdated, but I wouldn't say it deserves a measly 6.3/10. It's still a pretty decent game, and has one of the best plots in an RE game.

andrewsqual4597d ago

So true. (the review not the first comment). This game was so overhyped at the time. Even the run cycle of Claire looks weird, even worse then Jill running with a hand gun in Resident Evil 1. It was also one of the first Resident Evil's where as soon as I saw the first bad guy, Alastair, Alexander or something (how memorable he was), I thought the series was stating to get dumb.

Pozzle4595d ago

To be fair, Code Veronica isn't the only RE game with ridiculous villains. I mean, RE4 HD is getting nothing but praise, and many of its villains were just as silly (Ramon Salazar anyone? Who at Capcom thought a wrinkled dwarf dressed in Renaissance clothing was scary?)

Troll-without-Bridge4597d ago

Lol "outdated" What a joke of a review.

Pozzle4597d ago

I wonder if this reviewer has said the same thing for EVERY PSone and PS2 game that has either been re-released on PSN or remade in HD? Seems kind of unfair that Code Veronica is receiving so much negativity for being "outdated" when it's hardly the oldest game to be re-released/remade on PSN.
Hell, it was released over 10 years ago - of course it's going to be "outdated"! That's like reviewing FFVII or Super Mario 64 nowadays, and saying they're crappy games because the controls are clunky and the character models aren't PS3 quality.

Jocosta4597d ago

Hint: It was originally a Dreamcast exclusive. I sensed a little of the age old Ps2 vs. Dreamcast fanboy coming out in this scathing review.

ChipChipperson4597d ago

I definitely know what you guys mean. I'm just wondering.......do some of these reviewers honestly think that Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD, etc. meant a complete remake with the gameplay and overall level design?

InTheLab4597d ago

This game features a cross dressing maniac. How could it score lower than an 8?

Damn kids and their fancy 2011 gameplay...

Castlevania and Resident Evil are always good

Neonridr942d ago

the old stuff here vastly outshines the newer stuff, lol

How about scraping Games with Gold and reducing both XB Live Gold and XB GamePass Ultimate by $5 per month.

I don't mind the games with gold, but in reality it has been a long time since I really cared about what came on games with gold.

John_McClane942d ago

Getting rid of the gold paywall entirely works for me.

@John_McClane
I believe in paying for services you use. You look at the console vendors and they run a network that tracks your gamer profile, does your games saves, and provides an environment for multi-player. The servers and infrastructure to do this is expensive and has to be paid for somehow.

I like a direct payment method rather then hiding the costs behind something else. No matter what they have to find a way to make money off the investments they make. No company does stuff for free. Now with PSNow and XB GamePass I think both should just drop the free games (that aren't really free because they allocate Gold and Plus money to buy those games) I think it is time the the free games are dropped and the subscriptions drop in price as well.

I loved Aaero. I bought it on PS4 a few years ago and got hooked (some great tunes in there). I will happily double dip and try and grab a few achievements blitzing through the earlier difficulties again.

I havent played Code Veronica since the Dreamcast. I assume this is that but in HD?

Yui_Suzumiya942d ago

Yeah, it had an HD remaster during the PS3 / 360 era

babadivad942d ago

Same. That game was long AF!!

Damn, I just bought code name Veronica. Lol. I was eyeballing the Castlevania game due to the recent Tokyo Gameshow Sale, but I guess I’ll just get it here instead.

Resident Evil and Castlevania crossover Video game and Anime series confirmed!

VersusDMC942d ago

Nope. That would make no sense...but there is going to be a Devil May Cry and Castlevania anime crossover.

lost planet 1 and 2 are gems imo

spicelicka1891d ago

2 is the one with 4 player co-op right? That was amazing! Being able to fight giant monsters in co-op was so awesome. It was like Monster hunter with guns.

Movefasta19931891d ago
