OnLive experiences 'overwhelming' UK demand

Demand for streaming games service OnLive since its launch in the UK last Thursday has been "overwhelming", OnLive's VP of Games & Media John Spinale has told GamerZines, revealing that the firm had not been expecting the level of demand that the service has been experiencing over its launch weekend.

What a few 1000/100 people downloading demos? I hope people In the Uk are not actually buying from them smh

Why not? It's a service and concept that deserves to be recognised and will probably develop into something much larger in a few years.

Hopefully a more established company will develop something similar. I wouldn't mind seeing Sony adding something like this to their store.

Bladesfist4606d ago

@CynicalVision These people who founded on live are pretty high up and have pretty much created this new way of streaming huge ammounts of data. I don't want sony or microsofts hands on it. More competition please.

dangert124606d ago

becos i don't think we are ready for it and im defo not ready to have a libaray of games i can only stream no sense of ownership

Not sure. They were giving them away for free at Eurogamer Expo and the queu to get your free OnLive system was HUGE. I waited, got one after 90 minutes, but I haven't even opened the thing yet. Just thought, free new gadget, may as well go for it.

Just annoys me that the Witcher hasn't been released on OnLive in the UK yet. As for someone below who said that Apple or MS will do it better. I can tell you now mate, if anyones going to take advantage of OnLive's growing success, it's Google as they're big on Cloud technology. And if they do, they'll come in hard. Never 5 years will be extremely interesting.

I don't know how much I can stress that Onlive will be a major service. Many people are trying to downplay it for its flaws, but it's too early to say it will fail. Look at the service, its cost effective and publishers and developers are getting their share. Every producer wants that opportunity.

Someone needs to invent a technology similar to OnLive that you can install on your gaming PC, which allows you to play your installed games over the internet under a private connection. Assuming it worked well, it would be killer for people who want to be able to take their PC gaming elsewhere without having to unhook and transport your tower, monitor and other stuff with you.

J_Cob4606d ago

Sounds like the Slingbox but for games. They should make it. It's a solid idea.

gypsygib4606d ago

Probably the future of gaming but watch Apple or MS do it better.

3GenGames4606d ago

Anybody but Apple and Onlive....Apple wouldn't dare get into the gaming industry.

Mr_Lu_Kim4606d ago

MS or Apple?

You be trolling???

gypsygib4605d ago

Nope, I love my PS3 but Sony isn't exactly the great innovator when it comes to online services.

They do innovate a lot with hardware though.

Horny Melon4606d ago

People coming in for a $1. Yeah let's wait until the price bounces up to normal price and they get a good feel for server load and lag. Online was the biggest POS I ever bought. Is it the future? Maybe....but not the near future..broadband speeds would need to be more uniform and bigger before this would receive widespread adoption.

War Thunder debuts on OnLive's CloudLift streaming service

Samit Sarkar of Polygon writes: "War Thunder, the free-to-play military MMO from Russian studio Gaijin Entertainment, is launching today on CloudLift, the cloud-based gaming service from OnLive, the latter company announced today.

CloudLift, which OnLive debuted this past March in open beta, is a subscription-based service that allows players to "lift" a limited selection of Steam titles they already own to the cloud, and then stream them to a variety of devices without needing to download the full game. Those devices include Mac- and Windows-based computers, as well as TVs and Android tablets. Because CloudLift is integrated with Steam, save games are synced across devices."
