The Orange Box PS3 - Release Date

Electronic Arts has given Eurogamer a release date for the PS3 version of The Orange Box:

Ive had hl2 eversince the 6800ultra was the card to beat....ive been playing css for close to 4 years now.

YOU may not know this, but people didnt really worship half life2...it was the fact that it comes with COUNTER STRIKE:Source that makes it a classic way back when.

2 generations later and i now play it on a 8800ultra. fanboy.

I have ut3demo, AND since were talking about PS3 HERE. Ill reinforce my original comment. ut3(new game)>hl2(4-5 years old)

your loss.. Half-Life 2 was one or the best single player FPS experiences in the last few years and is a difference experience then a multiplayer FPS.

oh and UT3 wasn't designed for the PS3... it was designed for the PC first (it's where Epic's bread and butter is).

haha halflife may be old but this game is similar to bioshock in that its trully story driven its is a much much muchmuch better game than haze

I'm still waiting for the reviews before I buy this. If it's another poor EA port, I'll be forced to skip this title for one of the many other quality games coming my way.

I saw that ad on tv too. If you listen, it says "available now on the xbox 360 and pc". The PS3 logo is on the commercial, but they say its only available on the other 2 platforms.

I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of this orange box collection.. come on its couple of ps2 games into one box, so what is the big deal. I bet If you buy the games separately it would probably cost you less...

Half-Life2 graphically it's not even close to a PS2 game. Sure the engine is abit dated but there still is HDR lighting and great physics

The best the PS2 could do was the original Half-Life, and the original Xbox could only handle HL2 with gimped graphics. Also if all these games were bought apart from each other it would probably cost more like $80. So please feel free to take a break from the site if you start to get tired of being so wrong.

This post is like a chemistry experiment.

You have, N4G (fanboy central and lots of PS3 fans here) + Half Life Orange Box, (GOTY candidate and great game and we all know you want to play it) + Gabe Newell, (not a lover of the PS3 and hated by PS3 fans do to recent comments) + EA, (hated by PS3 fans) + Delayed games, (PS3 is plagued with them) + 360 got this game first, (thats obvious) + A small PS3 game library (this year) + EA again (do to poor ported games on the PS3) + everything else PS3 fans have had to deal with all year = ((( ? ))) I don't know what that equals out to but I think it has a fuse at the end of it.

PS didn't mean to go off topic but I thought that was kinda funny.

i'm a ps3 so called fanboy and i agree with all you say. i loved halflife on the pc, played the halflife2 demo on pc, i like halflife but i think this port is going to be rubbish. it will have frame rate issues, low textures, probalbly limited(thought lag free) on line ie no voice comms.

These games are being rushed to come out by mid-December on the PS3. Hopefully they won't be compromised in any way. I have my doubts about this when it comes to the Orange Box, since its EA.

Also: December 14th is not "just in time for the holidays". Just in time for the holidays means the title is available in stores worldwide the day after Thanksgiving.

Has two really interesting titles in it: Portal is awesome -- serious fun, but over in about 5-6 hours. There is some replay value, though. TF2 is pretty cool as the art style really makes it a unique experience.

As far as HL2, I fully disagree with it being one of the best FPS games in history. The story is WEAK in HL2. I didn't play HL1 and was hoping HL2 would make an effort to actually explain to me what the hell was going on. There is NOTHING the game does to clue me into what I'm doing or why. There are a few areas that get seriously boring... An Airboat ride all over God's creation that NEVER seems to end? Thanks, but no thanks. A level with endless spawning enemies? I friggin hate that since they keep coming from areas that are dead end alleys and such.

If you are a HL2 nut, maybe it will appeal to you but you might want to give it a rent instead since Portal can be finished pretty quick.

No game in this box on its own merit should be up for game of the year, however, so I don't agree with it being a contender for GOTY. As a whole, yes, Orange box is a great value because of the content, but GOTY? No? Best value of the year? Perhaps yes. Enjoy if it is your cup of tea, but I traded it in pretty quick after getting it and there are QUITE a few used 360 copies out there already.

perhaps if you play very very slowly. it took me around 2 and half hours to complete, still, was 2 and half hours of serious fun. im praying for a complete game.

anyone tried the mod so you can use the portal gun in Half life 2?

I still think i will use Orange Box as an xmas present and pick up HAZE on launch however.

The Orange box and Half Life 2 is still great to this day and should be a game collection any console owner would like. My only fear is that EA is handling the PS3 port, and we usually know how that turns out...

Sorry Mighty Douche and others but you`re wrong. The PS3 version is from EA (with some "assistance" from Valve they called it).

PC companies don`t usually handle ports to consoles anyway, even though more have started doing so, if more on the 360. I`m glad some are at least trying to develop for PS3 themselves too and getting some experience, instead of just saying how hard it is. The Orange Box is great, but i would wait for some reviews or try it for yourself before buying it. EA is handling the port...

can you please tell me who handled the 360 version? as ive played that on a friends and while it obviously cant compare to the PC (episode 2 especially) but its still a solid experience for those new to the HL universe.

No worries man, it`s easy to think it as Valve did the 360 version themselves. Probably because the 360 is more like a PC, and they didn`t get the grips on the PS3.

That`s why i think they and other PC developers can try and make a PS3 version first, then complaining later. At least don`t give the port to EA, even though i hope i`m proven wrong on that one in this case ;)

EDIT : No problems, mighty_douche. Just felt i had to say it was EA work in this case. Hope they`ve made a good port this time around though, both for PS3 owners and the Orange Box sake, as i`m sure other games could outsell it if it`s not well done. Could happen anyway, but still... anyone should pick up the Orange Box if the port`s good, great value and game(s).

Yes you're right...i really hate that guy from valve, he seems to hate PS3, without a concrete explanation for that... but the thruth is that doesn't stop me from liking this game...I really hope this game has no problems... i like half life, and this is a game i wanted in my PS3!

The console version of Orange Box was a bomb. Very few Xbox 360 owners bought it and I have a feeling even less PS3 owners will bother buying it. With the Xbox owners saving their money for Mass Effect and the PS3 owners spreading their cash between Rachet and Uncharted there simply isn't any room left for this PC port.

And you who said that Unreal 3 was made FOR THE PS3 from the groundup, are you somehow "Not realistic"?. That is a PC-game, most of all, and the PS3-version is a port.

Epic havent began working with the 360-version yet, they will start in early 2008.
