I preferred the "pulpy" Gears 2 campaign myself. Focussing on the gunplay is all very well, but we all know Gears gunplay inside out by now - there needs to be more insanity, more OTT material.

That is such a small part of the interview. Everything else he talks about, dedicated servers, narrative, finding the sweet spot for mp and single-player, is actually great info and insight into developing gears 3 and finding the best ways to end the trilogy.

Ok I will admit that I was pretty fumed at Cliff before reading that but it just added to it. See what gets me is all this Gears 4 talk. I don't know about the US advert but the UK advert makes a big play of it being "The End" so I'm pretty confused as to what it's the end of other than the characters.

But really there is no need to be calling a reviewer a hater, The game is scoring really well across the board so I don't get why it bothers him enough to mention it so much

He says it because he knows it will get people worked up. Thus they will start talking about Gears 3, and people will go out and pick it up to see what the fuss is about.

he is referring to those that hated on gears 2 to the point of spoiling it with all kinds of reveals in review threads and forums.

By all accounts someone who reviews a game is not so much of a hater. Its the ones that arent reviewing the game but deliberately trying to ruin it for others.

There can be a fair objective review process so long as there are people willing to save details for others to play and find for themselves. But when you go out and start talking about this person killing themself or that one shooting this one it is just f'd up.

As for a gears 4, i can see a back story game. Telling it from the early days of emergence day. Maybe even taking a flip side approach and playing from the locust during that time. How did they get to where all hell broke loose and they rose from below.

Jim Sterling at first seemed to be correct,but when Brink and Gears of war 3 are getting the same score on one site it does raise the question of why a 8/10. But numbers in reviews makes it nitpicky when someone wants a specific score.

I think it was just dissapointment being expressed.

Its like somebody reviewing a BMW 5 series from 2009 and then the 2011 model comes out with improvements made to everything and it gets a lower review score and the reasoning behind it is because it didnt "feel special" (to quote Jim Sterling) but hey thats personal taste.

And I dont know personally how anyone could have given Gears 2 a higher score especially considering the multiplayer component of the game just did not work at all. But then again a lower score can be attributed to it being the 3rd game in the series and its not necessarily to say its the worst game in the series but more to say well its Gears of War all over again. Its pretty much the same formula
with improvements and new stuff, I cant mark it up higher because its not exactly innovative and neither has it drastically changed.

Please tell me Cliffy B didn't try and claim that halo 2 was broken and Halo 3 got it right? I'm pretty sure most Halo fanatics I know were very critical of Halo 3 claiming Halo 2 was a far superior game.
