XCOM, Syndicate, Fallout: CVG bemoans the all-consuming genre...

Fallout is not a FPS, its RPG
Xcom is not a true FPS either, its tactical in a way game

idk about Syndicate

Sunhammer4618d ago

Just because Fallout 3 and XCOM do more than your average first person shooter doesn't mean they aren't first person shooters.

Do you consider Deus Ex a FPS? It is one, and Syndicate will be too.

Do you people not realize that companies wouldn't flood the market with shooters as often as they do now if you guys would just stop buying'em?

It's your fault, really.

jeseth4618d ago

Its true.

Its like when people complain about the prices of NFL/MLB tickets and player salaries...they are what they are because people pay for it.

Period. The consumer dictates the direction of an industry over time...look at the Wii. It forced MS and Sony to come up with a casual/motion periferal.

But when you try to tell someone that, they just argue and deny . . . then go back to playing COD, Halo, BF, KZ, etc. Hilarious.

They aint shooters , they are rpgs .

Just because they put a gun in your hand doesnt make them a shooter like those other titles .

Or do you call Oblivion , KIng's field , Wizardy , eye of the beholder fps because you can throw a spell or an arrow too ?

Simon_Brezhnev4617d ago (Edited 4617d ago )

I agree with sunhammer. Its funny how people can try to spin saying its not a FPS. First Person Shooter and First Person View are 2 different things. Fallout 3 is a FPS with rpg elements.

DragonKnight4617d ago

@Baka: They are shooters. When the main form of combat is using a gun in the first or third person view, that's a shooter. Just because it has RPG elements does not make it an RPG. If the game is easier for you to play with a gun than without, if the majority of the weapons you can obtain are guns and not melee weapons, then you can bet your ass it's a shooter. If the core gameplay is the use of guns in either a first person view, or a third person view with squad based tactics in it, no amount of exp. leveling, stat boosting, or drawn out conversation systems makes the game an RPG.

ironwolf7774617d ago

Uhh ... No. The Fallout games are not 'shooters' 1st person or 3rd person.
You can finish the entire game without firing a single gun. It's created as an RPG.

the fps trend needs to die already.

Simon_Brezhnev4617d ago

yeah it does. Apparently FPS makes you look bad ass since you use guns. Real men fight with their fist. LOL

FragGen4617d ago (Edited 4617d ago )

I like the first person perspective for a variety of game types. Having a first person perspective does not immediately make a game "an FPS". IMHO. As long as devs are not forcing the perspective into a game and ruining the game's design/fun factor, who cares?

Also, it's not like there are no more games being made that aren't first person perspective. I'm pretty psyched for the new uncharted and gears of war for example. I'll probably get Space Marine too.

Really, like another poster here said, buy what you like and if enough people do, the industry will make more games like those. It's supply and demand. It's not like they're trying to force stuff on us, they just want to make things that will sell well for their business.

NYC_Gamer4618d ago

Nope, but that genre owns most of the market share.

iamnsuperman4618d ago (Edited 4618d ago )

I really do not care about having too many FPS as long as there are good ones which there are. So if syndicate is good then it will be ok

Abriael4618d ago

No, we don't. But we're gonna get them anyway, until the market gets saturated and they'll stop making money.

Son_Lee4618d ago

Like iamnsuperman said above me, as long as they are good, go for it. But we really need more platformers and RPGs. Make a platformer RPG and I will cream myself.

Syndicate Reboot Servers to Close

Electronic Arts has announced a number of server closures in the coming months, including Apex Mobile and the 2012 Syndicate reboot.

MadLad407d ago

What online functionality did Shadows of the Damned even have?

kevco33407d ago

My thoughts exactly! Some kind of score chart I've forgotten about?

coolbeans406d ago

Syndicate's big saving grace will soon be erased for good. I'll give *some* credit to EA in keeping servers up for 10+ years.

mastershredder406d ago

Oh yeah, an actual cyberpunk game. I have fond memories of the old bullfrog Syndicates.

IamTylerDurden1405d ago

Syndicate was a fun and high quality late PS3 fps that got swallowed in the sea of fps at the time. It was short and it didn't innovate but it had good visuals and fun combat. Starbreeze i believe. Rip Torn and Rosario Dawson.

Syndicate - 10 Years with no Reboot Reboot

10 years since the Syndicate series was rebooted as an FPS, perhaps it's time we got another reboot as a strategy game?

ABizzel1760d ago

I enjoyed this game, especially the co-op. It was solid sleeper hit IMO.

MeteorPanda760d ago

was this the game with the cars on rails and you could blow up killing everyone in it? l loved this game, lol

porkChop760d ago

I couldn't get past the first half hour or something. Hard to remember but I didn't play long. I don't know if there was something wrong with the PC version or not, but the bloom was so bad it hurt my eyes. I started getting a horrible headache. I could hardly see anything because there was extremely intense bloom everywhere.

annoyedgamer760d ago

EA always let their PC versions fall by the wayside. The same thing happened with Dead Space 1.

Gheritt_White759d ago

This remains one of my fave hard sci-fi FPS games from the X360 era. A compelling premise with an interesting setting and solid characters, plus outstanding special ability mechanics. Def deserves more love.
