Yesterday a post appeared on Reddit – the staff of Frictional Games (makers of Amnesia and Penumbra) decided to allow the public to ask anything they wanted.
While AMA posts like this are common, I didn’t expect to see much in the way of information regarding a new game. As of yesterday, Frictional had been only hinting at a general direction for their next project. That is, however, until someone posted an image.
Frictional Games says its latest horror adventure Amnesia: Rebirth isn't profitable yet. The studio also revealed a major sales milestone for SOMA.
From GameWatcher: "Publisher and developer Frictional Games has announced that it will release the source code for acclaimed horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Both Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will go open source today, celebrating the original title's 10th anniversary."
This is brilliant news, will be helpful to see the inner workings of an acclaimed game!
Siliconera caught up with Thomas Grip, Creative Director and Fredrik Olsson, Executive Producer and Creative Lead at Frictional Games, to talk about what drew them back to the series, what they feel is vital in making the player afraid, and their careful approach in making the player’s imagination create fear for them.
