Why League of Legends is Great (Even Though I Suck at it)

Let’s be clear about a couple things in regards to League of Legends and the Riot Games crew: The game has become a phenomenon and the team may be as big of fans of their supporters as their supporters are of their game. To give you an idea of just how big this game has gotten, it was featured as a demo game for multiple companies that were showing off new hardware, it was a staple at any booth focusing on competitive gameplay, and by Sunday it seemed as if there were more shirts and lanyards sporting the “League of Legends” name than those sporting gear of the actual convention. When Scott Kurtz of PvP mentioned it during a game of Dungeons and Dragons with Jerry “Tycho” Holkins, Mike “Gabe” Krahulik, and Wil Wheaton, it received quite possibly the loudest response of the night. The game is huge.

This game totally sucked me in even though I wasn't much of a fun of dota type games.

Riot is a great company because they constantly interact with their community and they listen to feedback (even though it can take some time for certain things). All you have to do is find a forum red tracker and you will see dozens and dozens of developer posts each day. That is the mark of a great game company and the relationship Riot has with their community is nearly unrivaled for a large game (Eve possibly being the only game with devs who have even more community interaction)

LoL on the other hand is a great game because it took Dota and went in a different direction with it. People can complain all they want about "dumbed down mechanics" or how its "Dota lite" but at the end of the day, people find LoL fun and you don't see random scrubs winning tournaments. The Moba genre is becoming packed with Dota imitators and LoL did something different and you have to (or at least you should) respect the innovation.

The community of that game has problems though, a team mate dies and they get cursed out by other team mates, And if you take a character that someone wants, you will never hear the end of it.
