Space Marine Still Isn't a Gears of War Ripoff

GP blogger Khorne writes, "In Space Marine your character is a giant super soldier so he moves slower than the average human, but he can still roll around the battlefield like a crazed child and he can sprint. Relic seems to have found a nice balance between making your character feel like a powerful giant and making him responsive. The demo also showed off the Jump pack, which when used rockets you up into the sky where you can be boring and shoot people from your vantage point or you can aim at a group of Orcs and come charging down onto them. The Jump pack was fun at first, but the demo only showed it off in a limited area which was disappointing and I hope that in the full game you get to use it in a wide open battlefield."

I've got to say that the amount of people who look at it and scream Gears clone is unbelievable. Play the game, folks, and you quickly realise that they're worlds apart :)

Warhammer is all about non-stop violent action and mostly weapon based with minor gun play where as Gears is about running from cover to cover then shooting rinse repeat!

Besides Warhammer 40K has been around since 1987.

So who is ripping who off again?

emmm.. wasn't Warhammer a strategy game? I could be wrong

@ Venom

Warhammer had the tabletop RTS action figures and if you look at the action figures then you can see how Epic got inspired by them. The whole Gears story line is the exact same as WarHammer. Man is united under a Spiritual/Political system the Orcs or Locust attack man, the Cogs or Ultra Marines defend mankind so on and so on.

plus some of the Gears characters are similar to those in the Warhammer universe.

Personally i do not care cause they are two totally different games but since they both are 3PS idiots wanna make flaimbait articles but just the mere fact that someone would say WarHammer is copying Gears is kinda unnerving when Warhammer has been around since 1987. Yes it started out as a tabletop RTS game, then a video RTS game, and now 3ps the premise, characters, looks, and story has always been the same.

If anything Mass Effect is becoming Gears of War!

Warhammer has been around a much longer time, so it can't be a rip off.

Miiikeyyy4649d ago

If anything, Gears borrowed ideas from Warhammer

BioDemon-4649d ago (Edited 4649d ago )

Played the demo, It felt like a more melee oriented Gears.

EDIT: Not saying that it's a bad thing.

It's nothing like Gears. The only thing that it has in common with Gears is men running around in huge metal armour.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine came out more than a decade ago – a retrospective

Bits & Pieces asks: Releasing in 2011, there's a sequel on the horizon for Warhammer 40,0000: Space Marine. Relic’s third person hacker-shooter is older than the average Twitch chatter – how does it hold up?

Samus is on the list. Personally I'd swap the Space Marines with either Grey Fox from MGS or the COG armor from Gears of War.

You’re right. Hiding at the bottom so I missed it

There's no Dead Space listed in here, WTF!

Sciurus_vulgaris374d ago (Edited 374d ago )

I’d take the Space Marine power armour off the list due to it not originating in a video game.

Actually great list TBH I agree with all 10

I hope one day we get some remakes for the following

The saboteur(with a proper remake and quality of life features this game could be great)
Scarface world is yours
Binary domain ( such a great game with great story)
GUN(this needs a remake)
Space marine 40k(such fun time)

Would also like to suggest adding the mercenary series even the 2nd game which is disliked by many is a fun time

I recently finished Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and found it to be very enjoyable.

The game respected the lore and the gameplay was quite decent.

The color palette was a bit underwhelming (backdrops and setting) and recycled but I think that it deserved better.

Here's hoping for an amazing sequel
