How Could One Sweet Little Cheerleader Ruin the Image of Females Everywhere?

Kotaku: Kind of surprised that folks are upset about Lollipop Chainsaw. Well, not really surprised, but still.

Sure, Juliet isn't exactly the most tasteful portrayal of a woman, but who cares? She's a character in a video game that boasts an absolutely ridiculous premise. Are the actions of a fictitious girl truly detrimental to the image of females everywhere?

Pozzle4631d ago

Bleh. I'll never understand why there are people who keep insisting that women are weak fragile little flowers who will develop horrible body/self-esteem issues over seeing a fictional scantily-clad woman. Seriously, if a girl looks at Juliet and develops a self-esteem issue, then she probably had self-esteem issues to begin with and needs to seek help for that.

And I'll never understand why there are people who keep insisting that men are stupid neanderthals who are only capable of thinking with their dick. If a guy seriously looks at Lollipop Chainsaw and thinks that's an accurate depiction of women, he probably has some deep-set issues too.

DarkBlood4631d ago

well i admit i see some women or teenage girls around that size of the character but around here that isnt quite average say in the grocery store for example

i cant say the say for a mall though theres about equal amount or less

zerocrossing4631d ago (Edited 4631d ago )

Lollipop Chainsaw is coming out of Suda 51, what were people expecting!? That dev is all about outrageous characters, plots and gameplay, in fact I think the entire appeal of the game was built around just how outrageous the main character and the entire plot is.

A zombie infested high school and a scantly clad cheerleader with a chainsaw dropping humorous one liners while decapitating zombies, did I mention she also has her disembodied but still ALIVE boyfriends head strapped to her waist?

I think its safe to say nothing about this game was meant to be taken seriously, lol.

Venoxn4g4631d ago

that's why I love Suda's 51 games - they aren't been taken seriously :) ..and reminds us that games are meant for fun

SilentNegotiator4631d ago

Then you've obviously never taken basic psychology.

FragMnTagM4630d ago

I've taken basic and advance psychology and nothing explains that that I know of.

Care to elaborate?

Pozzle4630d ago (Edited 4630d ago )

Believe it or not, I actually did take two years of psych at university (before switching my major), and that still doesn't account for the fact that the media (and womens groups in general) seem to think all females need to be 'protected' from the big bad scantily-clad thin women lest they fall prey to their weak womanly minds. It's just patronizing.

Hell, I'm a girl and I went through high school, so I totally understand the pressures of having to look a certain way, or act a certain way, or have sex by a certain age, etc etc. But seriously, we're not THAT fragile. The average girl isn't going to look at a picture of Juliet and become an emotional wreck. Not unless she already has body issues to begin with and, if that is indeed the case, then that's not Suda 51's fault. That is something the girl needs to seek help for and hopefully overcome herself.

Making Juliet a more clothed character isn't going to magically cure people of their body issues. It's our entire society (and the media) that has a fucked up view of the human body. One little video game isn't going to ruin anything.

Tony P4630d ago

There's no issue unless you want to take issue with unrealistic representations entirely. The vast majority of characters in games are heavily idealized whether male or female.

I also want to point out that some have conveniently forgetten that this is from the creator of No More Hero's flamboyantly male Travis Touchdown.

Quagmire4631d ago

She looks like a slut.

Isnt that how most american teenage cheerleaders are portrayed in pop culture media?

How can this ruin the image of females everywhere when films like Bring it on have already done so.

At least this little cheerleader has rollerblades and a chainsaw.

Tanir4631d ago

all that matters is shes hot and awesome.

people who think a fictional character is going to ruin the portrayal of real women are just retarded.

women are still getting passed the bias of men and the media, thats alot more of a threat than a videogame or even movie

JasonBloodbourne4631d ago

nothing wrong with sluts man lol on a serious note who cares its a video game at the end of the day and people will always find things to moan about especially the Politically Correct Brigade

Knightofelemia4631d ago (Edited 4631d ago )

What is this game even about? If it looks interesting I might get it as long as this cheerleader is not one of those bubbly dumbblondes you find in 80's movies I am interested. I find those blondes dumber than hell and really annoying fast.

SeraphimBlade4631d ago

Lollipop Chainsaw = (Zombies + Cheerleader + Chainsaw) x Suda51's special brand of crazy

zero_cool4631d ago (Edited 4631d ago )

Who cares either way their video games end of story!

detroitmademe4631d ago

Has anyone tried this yet,it looks interesting/fun as hell.

zerocrossing4631d ago

Exactly! The game looks fun and interesting 2 reasons why many of us play games, nobody pegs Pokemon for it being pro animal cruelty or Mario for having a high dependency on wild mushrooms.

A cute girl can sell a game but it doesn't mean that's the only reason people will buy it.

Lollipop chainsaw now a remaster not a remake

At fans request apparently.

gold_drake198d ago

i wonder if they looked into what a remake would cost and went "NOPE Remaster it is" haha

FreeckyCake197d ago

It probably has to do with what the producer had mentioned recently. The thing about not wanting to change the essence of the original (e.g censorship). So maybe remastering the game was the best choice.

CrimsonWing69197d ago

The link to the story didn’t really answer the question. It makes no sense that you have to censor a remake and not a remaster.

What I got from that article is licensed music forced them to change to a Remake(?) and that they’re working hard with the platform holders to negotiate not censoring, which Sony is stupid about.

My question is, how would a Remaster not have to go through censorship?

I’ve seen dialogue changed in FF7 and Baten Kaitos. Then you have actual cutscenes being removed like in the dmc remaster.

I assume the same could be done to this game.

FreeckyCake197d ago

No idea. That's why I said " maybe ".

CrimsonWing69197d ago

Bull sh*t, you show me where fans wanted a Remaster instead of a Remake. I was more onboard with a Remake, I’m less excited just playing the same game I did before but now with sharper textures and better framerate.

ModsDoBetter197d ago

Probably realised this won't do the numbers so didn't want to invest.

No harm, I love Lollipop Chainsaw but it's a bit of a niche title.

gold_drake197d ago

yeh it was super niche even bk then

LoveSpuds197d ago (Edited 197d ago )

Loved it back in the day and have my copy sat on the shelf and ypu are right, it was super niche, which is why my copy is increasing in value slowly but surely. Hoping a remaster doesn't tank the value of my PS3 copy

....and that's a bad thing how?

343_Guilty_Spark272d ago

If it ain’t on Sony box it’s bad

autobotdan272d ago (Edited 272d ago )

Ninja Gaiden 2 was never multiplat. NG Sigma 2 is a remixed game not the same game at all

darthv72272d ago

Dante's inferno... such a great GoW inspired game. So sad the sequel was canned, it sounded like it was going to be even more epic than the first.

Vits272d ago

Yeap, classic GoW is still better mechanically. But the aesthetics and atmosphere of Dante's Inferno were just top-notch. Shame it never got a PC port, but at the very least is available on modern Xbox.

Juiceid272d ago

This list is ok, but Ninja Gaiden reigns supreme!

GhostScholar272d ago

I just can’t get into the devil may cry series. In my opinion you never feel powerful in those games. The guns are pointless as they only serve to be a flashy part of a combo. DMC was the only one that I could tolerate long enough to beat.

Top 10 Rarest PS3 Games That Are Worth a Fortune

Twinfinite: "During the PS3’s tenure, plenty of huge games launched, but the interesting thing is, many of the system’s rarer titles are largely not amazing games. Sure, there are one or two exceptions to that rule (I’m looking at you Ni No Kuni!), but many of the more desirable and valuable games in the PS3’s library are usually rare for a reason."

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sold my Painkiller for around £3 years ago and my Asuras Wrath for even less. Managed to pick up Lollipop Chainsaw and Splatterhouse again but they cost me a fair bit more than I initially paid on release when I first bought them.

Wish I bought Godzilla, the number of times I saw it in the game store for the price of a coffee and didn't bother.

Knushwood Butt288d ago

Never knew Last Guy had a physical release.

gold_drake288d ago (Edited 288d ago )

i own nba, lolipop and nino kuni. never heard of the rest tbf xD surprised they are worth that much, for what they actually are.

roadkillers288d ago

Getting a valuable game is all luck.. I had three of these. Africa is one that people might have seen coming, but otherslike Ni No Kuni wouldn't have been.

My most valuable game I remember owning was Conkers Bad Fur Day. When the game was being re-released on Xbox (remake/ upgrade if you will), the price dropped dramatically. Once the game released and the changes were seen, the value went back up. Then it was released on Rare Replay and value dropped again. 2020 hit and all collectables shot up along with Conker. Before stopping around $110 which it currently is.

Games change all the time because their digital media that can be reproduced even in weird contract bindings (GoldenEye as an example). One day it can be worth $300 and the next $150. The shrink wrapped items in mint condition cannot be reproduced.. but that takes strength to spend, not open, and hope its worth something.
