I only install games I play a lot, so Gears, Reach, Call Of Duty, Halo 3 ect... I think I'll just switch out the disk when the time comes, rather take the 2 seconds to do that then have to take up the time to install.

I just like to play the games, not watch an install progress bar. '

I have an Xbox 360s, so the drive is already pretty quiet. It's actually the quietest console I have. Not that a consoles drive would deter me from playing it. I mean I loved the Dreamcast and that thing sounded like a Jet taking off.

xPhearR3dx4649d ago

You still have to switch the disc even if you install the game......

Not that switching a disc is really that much of a problem. People never complained when MGS4 had to install every friggin chapter. That was worse than switching disc, but people got over it and still enjoyed the game. I know I did.

thor4648d ago

Well... I complained when I had to install every act. I pointed out that it's actually worse than swapping disks but fanboys wouldn't listen. It's incredibly irritating if two people share the same PS3 and one is on act 1 and the other is on act 2 - you need to basically install every time you play the game. It's also irritating if you just want to start a new game and muck around; you have to install again. All in all a terrible design decision. At least Rage installs it all in one go.

I like to install my games thank you very much. I find that the load times are considerably less annoying! I mean good luck playing Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas with the disk! You have to travel from room to room, one place to another and all that crap. I just don't see why idiots like Raven_Nomad think that installing a game is a hassle!? While in fact it speeds things up. But then again, I use my console for games only. I just don't fall for that music, pictures and videos sh*t cuz I can do all of that on my laptop.

I also think that Sony should allow us to install games just like 360. It's a very nice feature to have. Sure Bluray can hold crap load of stuff but we should be given the choice of installing the game because it can sure speed up the games and keeps the lense safe as well!

saladthieves4649d ago

True, but whenever I have space available and I am about to play the game, I prefer to install it first.

I personally find the 360 drive to be rather noisy, compared to its PS3 counterpart...very quiet.

Perjoss4648d ago

My ps3 drive is not very quiet, but I still have the original 60g backwards compatible model.

zeeshan4648d ago

I don't know why people are disagreeing with you egidem. I find my 80 GB PS3 drive to be almost dead silent compared to my 360! And I know that the slim PS3s have even more silent drives! Fanboys are simply pathetic. Yes, I am talking to you mr who's going to click the disagree link in 3-2-1... :)

gamingdroid4649d ago (Edited 4649d ago )

Well you have the option to choose with the most flexible install option ever on the Xbox 360 and I like options.

That said, I almost always install the game to prevent wear on the optical disc drive. The part most likely to fail on a console is always the mechanical optical drive more so than the hard drive that is constantly spinning anyhow.

SephirothX214648d ago (Edited 4648d ago )

Installing the game takes only a few minutes and you can be having a nice cup of tea with two spoons of sugar whilst waiting.

Though I'll be playing this on my pc. If you can't install the game I feel bad for you son, I've 99 problems but installation space ain't one.

Crazyglues4648d ago (Edited 4648d ago )

I'm really concerned about Multi-player because I'm hearing this game will not really have a good online Multiplayer features, other then some car racing...

That's Lame... Does anyone know or have more Info on this?

I like that I have the opportunity to fully install any game I would like to the 360. I can't figure out why Sony does not allow this, especially with the slow read times on Blu-ray. At first I thought it was because of size but titles like Infamous 2 and other AAA PS3 titles are available for full download on PSN. Rage will run better on Xbox and it will be thanks to the full install.

HDD usage works fundamentally different on the PS3. There is not "virtual disk" which maps a disk - like what the 360 installation basically is (it creates an DVD image on the HDD and uses that instead).

The PS3 always installs, means decompresses, or whatever copies data to some sort of install directory onto the HDD. Some don't, but they allocate a cache "partition" where they buffer data from the BD only.

A generic install for the PS3 is not really what I'd want. That would open doors for devs to waste space and make us install 50GB of data. Streaming is the way better method. Rage's streaming solution is not as efficient as it could be, I guess - UC/KZ/inFamouse (and others) have no such troubles.

And Re: noise. The PS3's BD drive is one of the quitest drives available. Especially in later models.

Can't wait for the online co-op.

Great news for those who may be tight on HDD space.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071789d ago (Edited 1789d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141789d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1788d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1789d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1789d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1783d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
