If any of you have ever played final fantasy tactics: advanced. You know it deserves a spot on the top 5. One of the best game's I've ever played, certainly better than almost all final fantasy games.

FF7 was my first Final Fantasy but then from their i bought me a snes to play the older ones and i will say It's not my favorite Final Fantasy as well.

When you said it was FF13 i was like What! then you say FF6 and i couldnt agree more. The story is so good and it felt very good playing it.

Nearly agree, just replace 10 with 12. 10 was a bit too repetitive imo. 12s combat system took some getting used to, in my case the game sat in the closet for over a year before finally going back and trying it again. But once i got into it, it wound up having one of the most complex and least cliche story line of any FF game.

Because so many people consider FF7 to be the best, people love to say that its not their favourite but secretly deep down they know it is. FF7 being the best isn't an opinion, its a fact. Because it was many people's first FF game to play, older gamers love saying FFVI was the best as to not give younger gamers the satisfaction. I've played aall FF games and I think FFVI is overrated.

Some people really do feel like VII wasn't the best, but a hell of alot of people like being contrarian. Meaning they think it gives them a cool factor for not liking something so popular. I think we can all agree though that XIII was shite.

I grew up with NES and SNES. FF VII is one of the weakest FF, imo. It's almost as bad as Mystic Quest.

The plot was horrid, the only likable character was Cid, and it got rid of "jobs." Oh, and it created emo kids. My biggest complaint is the job thing. Characters in the older FF were defined by their jobs. By the end of VII all your characters could do exactly the same thing. None of them were special. Limit Breaks were a neat addition, but the unlikable cast and horrible story shot that to hell. Not to diss your name, but Sephiroth was the worst villain in FF history. He had no motive and his only claim to fame was his aesthetics. He was pissed off because he was an experiment?? Ohhh the depth. No aspiring for greatness or world domination, just a emo kid with a big sword. Him and Cloud.

This might be an unpopular opinion but if Square ever remake FFVII, I hope they change a few things to make the plot a little clearer. Sephiroth might have been pissed off he was an experiment, but it was obviously the Jenova in him that sent him over the edge to begin with. The man was unstable as hell.

The same goes for his change of heart when he fell into the Lifestream...his motives changed from "getting revenge on humans" to "following in Mother's footsteps".....presumably because he was part-Jenova and had the urge to destroy the Planet like she did. But that should have been made clearer in the game. Even now, there are fans debating on whether it was Jenova or Sephiroth in control. And I sadly don't think that was intentional on Square's behalf.

Things like this have created some great theories from fans, but honestly? It should have been clarified in the game in the first place. Maybe it's more obvious in the Japanese version and we just ended up with a dodgy translation in the West, but imo FFVII could really benefit from a better translator having a go at translating it.

And I know Square have released a hundreds-of-pages long "Ultimania" book to explain everything in the game. But if you need to release a book to explain things your fans don't understand, something clearly went wrong in the storytelling. (Not that FFVII is a bad game, it just needs to be more clear in certain places).

Sephiroth was a great villain imo. He was dark, odd and completely uncaring. Every FF game has some villain trying to take over the world or destroy it for some little reason or other, as does many other games. Cloud was a very complex character. What's the point of having a character that is completely good. It's better to have depth and complexity. Cloud was selfish but yet stood against evil. Its not just about the overall story, it's about the story of each character and the relationships between characters. For example, the moment Aeris was killed was shocking and thrilling. No other game has had such a breathtaking moment such as that.

Also, I'm sick of the word "emo". It is used too often nowadays and I don't understand what you mean. What emo kids are you referring to?

I like the job system but its absence wasn't a big deal. Just because characters could end up doing the same moves, it doesn't mean you could play the game that way. Characters started out with different strengths so only at higher levels could they become all-rounders. Thus for the majority of the game, you have to use the characters in specific roles anyway.

Differen't people have differen't opinions on what FF game was the best. People will not admit this but most the people I've seen or heard who say FF7 is the best only say it because that's what the word is in the gaming industry...and the sad part they havent even played the game themselfs
