Devil May Cry: Dante’s Vertical Slice

PlayStation Blog: Last year, Capcom and Ninja Theory revealed their re-imagining of Devil May Cry (now known as “DmC”) at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show. The response to Dante’s makeover and new look to the universe was split between adoration and outright confusion, with fans questioning the new look and fighting style of protagonist Dante. Heading into gamescom, I received word that Creative Director Tameem Antoniades wanted to discuss DmC’s progress and indulge me in Dante’s new found love for aerial combat. After being reunited with Tameem and Dante, I’m left crying for more.

I say give this game a chance. If you guys are real Devil May Cry fans like most of you claim to be. Then buying this game shouldn't be so much of a hassle for you guys. However, after playing it and you think its $hit then its a waste of $60 lol. Nevertheless, i think they deserve a chance to prove themselves.

Oh, but after "Nero" where did you guys think Devil May Cry would end up? They F$%ked it up when they introduced him.

But dmc 4 in general to me was just a lazy effort dante was pretty much the exact same as he was in dmc3... And the back tracking!?

They don't really deserve anything, they basically said "Screw you, we're doing what we want" to the fans, so we're saying "knock yourselves out, but don't expect us to buy it".

It's because we are real fans that we're all outraged by this, It's not even DMC anymore its lost all of the appeal the old games had.

Imo, Capcom Invented Nero to replace Dante, but it didn't go as planed. Dante is just too much of an icon, which is why people are so pissed that they changed him the way they have.

I don't think it's the game, but Dante as a character that is the problem. I don't a reboot, or anything, BUT do not change his looks, beside, I don't think Dante can age as normal human does.

Ninja Theory I'd say stick to what your good at but you have yet to make a good overall game Enslaved-Ninja Gaiden-Heavenly Sword are NOT the greatest games like N.T likes to claim, and "Learn how to work the Damn CAMERA" in your games.

Be honest and its probbly cause im just pissed but I have NO desire to buy or touch this basterd child of a game. I got MVC3 and Dante is there so im happy.

But my next comment I know I will get hate mail. But here goes.

DMC hasn't been impressive since the 1st one(2001) and yes that means im dissing DMC3. DMC3 came out when God Of War and Ninja Gaiden was out. The fighting in those games were better and more satisfying than DMC3. Dante(DMC3) has alot of moves but I found them usless.

Devil May Cry, I feel like typing it just cause NT is titling there game DMC, Devil May Cry one and two were the best to me cause one was awesome it was new and such, and two also got me wondering what happening to him since he is alot more colder in character and seemed like a long game cause of the having to switch discs while playing it.

But Devil May Cry 3 just seemed meh to me, and well 4 I was Nero which was whatever but I got to also play as Dante pre Devil May Cry 2 and after 1.

Now I get this?.. I find it unfair we don't NEED a reboot we know Dante if anything we(im speaking for fans cause i think this is kind of a duh thing.) we would like to see Vergil come back anything other then another reboot..that came after the fourth game that was third in the storyline as the prequil to four was the first title as the first title was the second game and the second game was the last in the time line. Ok I see why Dante is the way he is in two he is tired of getting dicked.

GoW and NG I just end up recycling the same moves and fighting the same way no matter what.

DMC (the REAL DMC) has combos in mind. Juggling is the whole point and switching weapons and mixing up your moves gets your higher style points, which is what it's for.

NG prides itself on it's fast, brutal combat. GoW prides itself on cutscenes and brutality, but not it's combat. Jaffe's own words. He said Bayonetta and DMC had a much more fleshed out play style and GoW was never made for it's combat, but for it's cinematic.

This shows in that you never really mix up what you're doing in GoW.

If you approach DMC like GoW, no doubt you're going to be disappointed because you missed the entire point of the Stylish meter.

But hold on, I assumed the first time he activates Devil Trigger was in DMC3 after his first fight with Vergil?!?!

Who says hes using a devil trigger in this game? I agree it may work similarly but lore wise it could be explained that this might be simlar to a saiyen type ability and late in the game it stays permanent.

I think the aspect of increasing the air combat is stupid. It was a mechanic in previous games but I dont think it should be the main attration to the combat system like NT is making it to be. When he Devil Triggers all enemies go in the air and Dante does air combos off the transformation.

Dante's original Devil Trigger made him change form not change his hair white, when he changed his form he gained speed, power and other abilities his human form cant produce. I believe this is going to be a button masher game with terrible response time just like in Heavenly Sword. SMH, this is a disaster.

In the previous DMC titles you were considered a skilful player if you could keep the enemy up in the air for a very long time by combining combos.

But now it looks like everyone's going to be doing it so what's the point now?

Split? Since when has the response been split? From what I've seen on sites like this one, and even on Capcom's own forums, it is a majority consensus that this DmC is NOT what ANYONE wants to see, and in fact sucks. NT have destroyed the Devil May Cry franchise.

Dante looks like Tameem Antoniades if he never took a shower. The dude looks like he lives on drugs and wants to cut himself with his own sword. He's a nigh-anorexic, British-wannabe-emo punk who listens to bad music and frickin' smokes as though that's supposed to be "cool." The 80's called, they want their style back. David Bowie could be this Dante. No frickin' doubt. And that's the first and most obvious problem with this game.

Problem 2: DANTE IS NOT HALF DEMON, HALF F***ING ANGEL! He is half demon, half HUMAN! This doesn't even make sense at all. And his "Devil Trigger" brings out what? Both of those powers? The white hair is supposed to represent his Angelic side, but it's called the Devil Trigger? Or do they have an Angel Trigger too? The fact that this is alleged to be pre-DMC3 Dante completely destroys the canon that stated that Dante first used Devil Trigger in DMC3. FIRST USED! So problem number two is throwing every single aspect of Devil May Cry out the damn window. Especially the stuff that makes sense for the franchise.

Problem 3: Ninja Theory SUCK at combat. Period. Heavenly Sword was a good game, but the combat was nowhere close to the speed and combo intensive combat style that Devil May Cry is known for. Enslaved was a noob friendly button mashing experience that you'd actually have to try hard to lose while playing. And this, my dear "this game looks good and we shouldn't judge it without seeing gameplay or until it's out" spewing friends is why REAL Devil May Cry fans are both outraged, and afraid. Devil May Cry may have needed a fresh STORY reboot, but THAT'S ALL! The saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" STILL applies to this franchise. Crapcom and NT has taken a massive, elephant sized dump all over it and they don't give a damn.

Amen brother!!!! I really hate the idea of half demon/angel. It doesnt make sense at all. How can he rule out his angel side when he is half and half with no sign of humanity in sight. Its a stupid plot point that is just going to not add anything to the story.

And yes everywhere I've been on the web no one likes the look/presentation of the game and the laggy gameplay. Or anything about the game actually, unless it's the NT fans that just go head over heels for Tameem and NT.

As a non DMC fan, I've played DMC4. It wasn't that good at all. Especially using the Nero guy. I doubt this one could be worse....
