I'm so stoked for this game. Hope it comes out soon!

Genghis4643d ago

I still don't understand how Valve gets away w/ making a game out of a Blizzard game mod...will this end in blood?

STK0264643d ago

Well, there's more than that, like the fact that Blizzard is currently creating it's own DotA map for SC2.

But really, I hope DotA2 proves to be great, as I really can only get myself to play one of these games (Demigod, HoN, LoL, etc) and I would like it if all of my friends and I were playing the same one... since as of right now I mostly play LoL, but still have to play some HoN since some of my friends prefer HoN over LoL...

Anyway, I'm pretty excited for this game, I hope it delivers.

Shackdaddy8364643d ago

Blizzard doesn't own the rights since it was just a mod made from a fan. Valve actually has the guy who made DotA on their team.

Genghis4643d ago

it's was still originally modeled after warcraft, i mean the character models are exactly the same. it's not like the guy made his own game and copied some aspects of warcraft, he used their actual character models. that's what makes it shifty...i'm sure valve has discussed it w/ blizzard, they're both responsible companies. had it had been a smaller game company or less reputable company, it may have ended poorly...

CommonSense4643d ago (Edited 4643d ago )

anyone notice that the mini map looks just like the map from LoL?

smurfee4643d ago

If you had any common sense you would know that the map from lol was copied directly from DotA.

CommonSense4643d ago

that's fine...but not really the point. i figured a sequel would yield some new maps...

also, common sense doesn't have a thing to do with past video game titles. if you had any intelligence, you would know that. next time you wanna be a prick, try to be a bit more clever.

boyzilla4643d ago

rofl smurfee... WHAT AN IDIOT!

grailly4643d ago

it's true, it would be nice if dota-like games had more than one map (I know they have a few, but they're the same)

NuclearDuke4643d ago

The sequel won't yield new maps. Dota is highly competitive and is strictly balanced to one map which everyone is very keen on learning to use to max potential. You do not see this in LoL as it's a casual game without pulling and denying, so there is no point in trying to balance a map in that game.

smurfee4642d ago

common sense doesn't have a thing to do with past video game titles.

You're exactly right my friend, but that is also not the point. Common sense in this sense is when you see the two maps and already know that "the mini map looks just like the map from LoL". If you had any common sense, you would know that and wouldn't even need to ask. Next time you think somebody is trying to be a prick, try to understand why.

It would be nice if someone would make a DoTa that doesn't look exactly like the original. Is there some written rule that all this style of game has to look exactly the same.

wallis4643d ago

Eurgh. You know what... no. I don't give a crap how God damn dedicated the original fanbase was, I don't give a crap how cool Dota was in its time and I don't give a god damned fuck whether this game is even good or not because it's not half life 3.

That's it. I'm not doing this anymore. I know valve are brilliant and when they fart they fart pixie dust that lets you fly if you think happy thoughts... but that's it! I'm done indulging valve's obsession with hats and games that aren't half life. Portal 2 was cool but it only made me want god damned answers! I'm tired of games acting like it's perfectly okay to just stop three quarters of the way through a fucking narrative and leave the audience waiting quite literally decades for answers.

Is it me or are games the only form of media that does this? Example, gears of wars? When you think of the narrative arc stretching across the games it's not actually gears of war 1, gears of war 2 etc. It's gears of war episode 1, gears of war episode 2.

Nobody does annoying disjointed broken narratives quite like valve though. Wooo boy can they wind me up. God damned mother fucking g-man. I'm beginning to think there is no answer and it's all just deus machina.

NuclearDuke4643d ago

Dota still has tournaments and a 10+ million fanbase. you are unaware of this, as you no longer follow the scene. Stop saying "dota was cool in its time" - A dota team has just been bougth for $6.000.000 in China.

It's huge and DOTA2 will be even bigger.

Valve: 'Smurfing Is Not Welcome In Dota', Bans 90,000 Accounts

Valve has spoken out forcefully against smurfing in Dota 2 after banning more than 90,000 accounts - and targeting their owners.

Fist4achin240d ago

Pardon my ignorance for never having played this, but why even have the ability to create multiple guest accounts? It seems if there is only one account per player then it would eliminate this smurfing issue.

sadraiden240d ago

Probably to get new players hooked on the addictive gameplay loop, more people playing = statistically more people buying battle passes.

Fist4achin240d ago

Makes sense and cents for Valve. Thanks

franwex239d ago (Edited 239d ago )

Why would seasoned players want to play with lower skill players anyway? Just to owned them? They’re n00bs, what’s the fun in that?

It’s like on COD where they do bad on purpose for a few rounds, to then be place with with bad players to then dominate.

SegaSaturn669239d ago

This is human nature. I know people who do this in Dota2, CoD and other multiplayer games. They enjoy the dopamine rush that winning generates.
