F1 Online: The Game, a racing and management title playable in a web browser, has been announced for early next year.
The free-to-play game allows players to race on iconic tracks such as Monaco and Silverstone from a top down perspective across a number of online game modes.
As well as embarking upon a full 2011 FIA Formula One Championship, players can race in individual Grand Prix events complete with practice and qualifying rounds, as well as a range of challenges and time trials.
Progress across each mode will be tracked through leaderboards and shared across social networking sites.
A management mode will also be available, allowing players to create their own racing team with its own unique name and livery, as well as control over its commerical interests, production and research development.
The Guardian: "If you're a Formula One fanatic with a propensity for games which let you tinker to heart's content and dip into and out of play for short periods, you should find it pretty satisfying."
Codemasters has announced that F1 Online: The Game has entered open beta. F1 Online: The Game is the new free-to-play online racing and management browser videogame in production at Codemasters Racing Studios under exclusive worldwide agreement with Formula One World Championship Limited.
VVV: "Once in open beta, F1 Online’s free-to-play platform means that Codemasters aren’t tied to a final release date. “One of the fortunate things with being an online game is that we can update whenever we like. We have a massive 3 year plan for the game and future updates. Think of it like an MMO cycle - we’re going to be pumping out stuff every couple of months.”
